Was -10 Saturday and -25 Sunday am.  Too cold. Our new calf is a girl and seems to be eating off her mom and the other heifer whose Calf did not make it.    Chickens have taken to laying in a 5 gallon bucket half full of sawdust there were two in it this am. Was quite a site.  One of my leghorns is now sitting so they are not freezing.  Supposed to be close to 50this week. Time to push the banks back I think

Thursday they say 50 with rain. There is a stream near me that is frozen solid,50 with rain could result in a sudden thaw with major ice jams flooding all the low areas, there are homes in those low areas

Road past north sandy on rt. 3 yesterday. Wouldn't be surprised if it spills over rt. 3 after the rain hits

Weather dude just posted a "flood occurring" statement for my little piece of Penn's Woods. Reports of 3" of rain on the ground and more on the way.

Mixture of horizontal sleet and rain in progress with rain turning to all ice sometime around 5ish than snow after 10:00 PM. Only 4 to 8 expected for my area.

We got about 12 to 15 from the latest storm, it's tough to tell due to the wind. I myself cancelled my ice fishing till Sunday. Temps were 63 degrees yesterday and now the are 10.  -10  is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. No issues though my equipment and back held out and I am cleaned out. This is the first ''real '' winter with my metal roof and I absolutely love it to death, worth every nickel I paid for I , no more worries no more shoveling up there no more ice jams. I am in love.......

At 4:30 AM the therm-O-meter was bottomed out at minus 14 and by 6:30 AM we were enjoying a mild temp of minus 7 degrees. With the temps. in the low 60s just a a few days before then tumbling into minus teens, last night was like living in a box of Rice Krispys. The logs were snapping, cracking and popping as the temps dropped through the night.

Snow wasn't so bad except for the drifting part and then there was the freezing rain that put a pretty good coating of ice before the snow arrived.

Didn't have to plow any snow from a 6 ft. swath in front of my garage doors because it was bare.

Because the wind moved the snow from there to here. Walkway to entrance door. Stupid wind.

The thermo says - 12 so it's closer to 17 or 18 below here now.  It was -7 at 0330 when I loaded the fire last. Supposed to be colder tonight. Right on cue a cow dropped another calf yesterday, here is to hoping it made it through.  Neighbor lady called and she has had two chickens in her garage that got out of I think know where, but wonder how they made it nearly a mile.  As she and I both know those folks don't care for animals the way I do so. They are seldom there and she is a little thin, but seems healthy. I left them in my basement to thaw last night as they were covered in ice balls, will introduce them tomorrow.

Hope the calf made it through...good of you to take in the birds. Hopefully they don't have mites or lice to go with the poor nutrition.

Dimebrite great picture of the river, thanks for sharing.

Seven day forecast for my piece of NW PA. says 41 degrees this coming Sat.  That sounds like a great day for a 'tailgator' on the ice.

It was 30 gusts a week ago sat and we put 8 stakes out . She held, 2 anchors bent . Sunday was windless and 50's. No shanty required.
Last sat it was 20 sustained in the flip over. Couldn't lift your butt or it swung.
Sunday windless and 50's with no stakes out on pop up and nobody really sat inside.

Moral of story:
Fish only on Sundays
Give it a few hrs and the weather will be the opposite.
I haven't listened or watched a meteorologist in about 10 years. One thing I have found is you can't change the weather so deal with it. :)

Snowing all night and all day, but accumulation is for the most part minimal with 4 to 6 and some higher drifts. Will go out later and clean up. With the lake very cold I anticipate large LE events may not have the right mojo to happen from here on out as the moisture is limited. We will see.  temps look seasonal or better for the next week.

The stuff we have coming down in SCPA feels like salt, both on the ground and falling. We have about 2 inches of it on top of 3 inches of packed snow from Monday.

The short term forecast is for 1/4 inch of ice to fall and coat the salt like snow, before turning to rain later this afternoon. This should create quite the mess.

I’m going to work, and I’ll use that term loosely, from home and wait for it all to pass.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

I would say 6 inches of the  mealy slick stuff fell. It shut down most everything. I had no patients show today. All cleaned up and ready for the next one
