Steve I hear ya on gittin' ready buddy, I'm feeling the urge myself.  Now if I can only remember where the hell I stored my huntin' stuff from last year.   Stupid real tree camouflage.

Well decided to give it a shot tonight on-site of the forecast using a new strategy of hunting the off wind. Saw 3 doe after the rain (30min) of rain then heard a grunt as I was about to climb down telling me, the bucks are bedded where I thought and stands are set next ssw wind the plan is set and I'm going for broke hopefully get this season done asap with my buck tag or spook everything outta there and the other asshat hunters I gotta deal with don't get the opportunity at him, long story but they have no respect for others hunters nor common sense

I'd rather be lucky then good, but im to good to be lucky

With all the rain this year, the mosquitoes are terrible in my area.

What do you archery dudes use to keep them off that doesn’t have any scent?

I had a few tonight, I typically don't use anything never really had them but I hear thermacell works or sawyers, I use sawyers for anything but deer hunting I'm confident there's a lifetime supply on my brush pants I use it for ticks but works on skeeters to

I'd rather be lucky then good, but im to good to be lucky

While putting fresh batteries in the cams this morning, the mosquitoes almost carried me off and I was squirted up with Skin Sensations.

Dardy's I'll be glad to send over some of these dam spiders I got dangling in my face while sitting in my ground blind.  No kidding, I'm thinkin I may carry a machete to get through the webs.  Hell I walked through a couple webs, between trees, I could of used to shoot  2017 XX75's.  Via finger release.  Stupid spiders.

I have Saywers on my clothes (mainly for ticks) but it helps with the skeeters too.  I usually just try to squish as many as I can with my hands if I know there are no deer around.  I think I killed a dozen on Saturday evenings hunt.   I do have a thermacell in the back of my truck but I have never used it.  If they get any worse than what I had on Sat. evening, I will be testing it out for sure.

Wasn't going to go out today, but the early rain cooled it down this afternoon and i couldn't resist. 4 doe came ripping in on me at 6, then proceeded to mull around the backside of my stand for 20 min. They finally worked their way back out in front of me and I decided to take #4 at about 5 yds from the stand. Double lung that didn't go far. With work being crazy busy and having limited hunting time in happy to have some meat in the freezer.

Good for you Crappie_Slayer. Sounds like a well placed shot. 👍

I made it out today also. Out to my back deck and maybe tomorrow I can make it down the steps then etc, etc, etc. Till someday I make it to my highrise ground blind which I project will happen, sometime, before season's end.

Good shooting CS!

Haven't hunted myself yet. My teenage son whiffed on a doe last Saturday at 23 yards. Funny to hear him tell it ...

"I was way too nervous because it was the first deer I saw this year."

"My heart was pounding so hard I could barely breathe."

"I knew as soon as I released the arrow I missed because I jerked my head."

Man, I love the boys that God gave me.

Went out checked my camera today and put some Rachet straps on my 2 stands . Had 2 smaller bucks & some doe on camera , kinda slow. Did see this guy and his wife , he said his wife hit a 7pt this morning at 7:30 out of their stand . Give it about hour started looking for it found some blood and arrow had good blood on it but this was 1:00 and they hadn’t found it yet . Did find a blood trail near my one stand heading down into the thicket. Had to leave so hoping they found it ....

There is a difference in the hunt. Even with the use of a compound or crossbow. Although not nearly as exciting, as with a longbow or recurve.

Hell, in my case, just seeing a legal buck I could point my finger at and yell bang, would be special for me.

Stupid ARs..... 💀

hmmmm.....picking a fight, when there is none to pick....

Anyways, congrats Crappie.
Between the rain/storms and heat, I have no ambition to head out hunting right now.  Did some scouting Friday mid-day and didn't find any dead, EHD deer so that was a bonus.
Looks like I may burn a little vacay this Friday AM.....since this weekend will be a no go due to a dek hockey tournament.

Good luck fellers....

Thanks everyone. Looks like cooler temps are on the way this weekend, so it will finally feel like archery season. Good luck to those who get out.

Finished butchering my deer on Sunday, and to my surprise while cutting up the last hind quarter we found what looked to be a .22 round that was well healed into it. Meat was all good at least. Someone must have tagged it in the azz a while back. They are tough little creatures. Was happy to find it with a knife instead of a tooth later down the road.

Yeah there tough critters. Shot a buck with a broadhead encased in a cyst all hard from the year before in his shoulder blade. Shot a buck with a fresh 22 hole in his ear,and shot a doe with what appeared to be a 30/30 slug resting on her spine.  All deer where archery kills. Strange things in the deer woods, good to see I'm not the only one shooting wounded deer.lol

4 years ago my son shot a decent 9 point and I had a friend do a Euro mount for him.  There's a nice, clean hole from a .22 or other very small caliber gun right in the top of it's skull.  Had a little crusty gunk on his forehead there, but other than that, no signs of injury.  It's amazing how tough some of these critters are.

I shot a doe a few years back and it had its right rear leg broken off above the knee. I suspect from a vehicle hit.

It was all healed over.

I think I may have posted this picture earlier this season.   This will be the third season for this doe and some may remember me talking about taking her out (as in killing ya sicko's) last year but I didn't and, here she is with a fawn.

I had a friend come up from Georgia before the AR a d HR. We had a 3 day doe season. We put a little drive on and he shot a completely healed over 3 legged doe. The ironic thing about this was there was a small dirt road that ran parallel to this expressway. I drove back to haul out his deer. There was a state fence with those 8" squares next to  the road. I saw a dried up deer leg wedged between two squares, yes it was a match. Never saw anything like it. That doe ran like she had all four.
