Truth be known BT, there's more than legs hanging from those barriers.

Folks would be amazed what one can see, stuck in that fence along our highways and byways, while sitting high up in an eighteen wheeler.

However that being said, folks be amazed at what can be seen passing on by, in the Monfort Lane...10-4?

Ahhh those are some memories.😈

Lots of action this morning. Passed up two 8 points, had a 3 point stroll past, and seen four does. Almost got a whack at one of the does but it wasnt meant to be.

Evening sit was slow. Two fawns.

This Thur. afternoon( 10-11-18) I saw a ton of small game frantically running around feeding in front of the cold front. I called several of my friends & told them to get out if they could because of all of the activity, I was sure that the would be a up-tick in bow kills on this site. Not so much. I hope that to-day is good for the black powder guys, looks like a great day around here.  sam

I did it... I DID IT!!!   Ummm, no I didn't kil...... errrr, harvest an elusive PA White Tailed Deer but, I got my bow out of storage to practice and I hit the target..........  twice!!!!    Can't wait til tomorrow when I move further back, another five yards, to the ten yard spot and practice some more.  I'm sooooo happy!!!

Sam, I never heard a shot today, around my place.  Doesn't really mean much I'm thinking, as all the corn fields remain standing and in my area that makes it a bit difficult to access any woods from the road.  Besides, any woodsy areas that can be reached, usually have Amish dudes hangin in the trees with their crossbows.

BTDT Starting at 5yds ah. You crack me up quite often, do you have the same effect on your caseworker. My caseworker-wife sometimes finds me humorous but mostly finds me chores to do as my humor must make her think I need better things to occupy my time. Of course I am I admit slightly fearful of she who must be obeyed.
Went to my one hunting area Friday evening and sat in tree. I do not believe I have ever seen so little in two hours in the woods. I heard on Chipmunk as I settled in, however heard no more and saw not one critter all evening. This is a mature Hardwood stand that as I found out had no mast this year. I have not had time to scout around this year. Hindsight would have put me in another woodlot that is loaded with White Oak Acorns. Next time.

Sparrow I wasn't using the bow when I hit the target. I gave up on that thing after a dozen trys and started throwing the arrows. I think I coulda hit the target more but I couldn't find the other ten arrows. 😯 Stupid bow!!

I know about that wife thingy too. I wasn't too worried about letting her "think" she "wears the pants" in the family but when she demanded they be "Mossy Oak"..... oh boy.😧

Good hunting

Thunder, your heart musta been thumpin sumpthin fast, mine was, as I was seeing what you was sayin.

I have a few stands like yours. Put the things up two years ago but have not hunted from them. Wanted the deer to get use to em being there. Now if I could just remember where the hell I put em.

Keep them stories comin, enjoying the read.

Good times.

Got jumped by a wall hanger on Saturday. Doe came crashing up the hill and stopped 20 yards from me looking back the way she came. I quickly pulled up, than realized I'm not allowed to shoot her with the 22 mag. She busted me and kept rolling the way she was headed. Stupit gray skirls spun me around in my spot and I dared em to come up out dat tree. 10 minutes later, I hear a Loud trumpet sound coming from where that doe came from. I spins around real fast for a look, and its a monster buck. So in conclusion, I thought, maybe I should have had the smoke pole....No, I should have had the bow. Either way I never did get either of them 2 gray skirls.

Yinz can see a kinda white square which is really a shooting backstop 5' high x 6' wide, 200 yds away. Now using your imagination, imagine a very large, elusive white tailed deer standing to the left of the backstop. Also imagine two more white tailed deer standing just behind the backstop while imagining my highrise groundblind directly to the right of that same backstop. Imagine the shots those deer are presenting to the lucky hunter sitting in that blind. Can you imagine how his heart might be thumping as he chooses which white tailed deer he will take. Imagine how stealth like, his every movement as he brings his bow to ready. Imagine if that were yours truly, breathing in then slightly exhaling, before holding my breath as I level my sight pin on the vitals of my target. Imagine me thinking "sight small shoot small" as my finger touches the trigger of the release aid.

But wait, the idiot taking the picture is me, 200 yds away.... imagine that?

Heard combines today, working distant fields. Imagine deer will be moving a bit more as their corn field cover becomes less and less.

Rest all doe nothing close and all on the run across the field of course away from me in the corner were I was in the stand waiting on them .... oh well next hunt ..... nice afternoon though ... good luck guys !!

Steve ya gotta watch them deer calls when communicating with deer grunt speak. Calling to that 4 point, (still a trophy), he was hearing "come here and get your asz.... KICKED". However, had he been a trophy 'hat rack' he would have heard the same message except the "kicked" part. πŸŽƒ

PS. Always, always, after using a deer call to communicate "grunt speak", "always" exercise extreme caution when retrieving equipment from the ground, while bending over. πŸ™ŠπŸ™‰πŸ™ˆ

Likewise, when still hunting, never use the "hands & knee" crawling method while wearing "Tinks" Doe Pee.😲

Got a rain day Monday, hunted the evening dss not even a bird or squirrel it was super windy till dark so I imagine that's the reason for lack of movement none of my buddy's saw anything neither. Yesterday morning would of been money to be out probably seen 100 deer from greenville to 79 to 80 but ofcoarse I was working I feel the flu coming on here in a week or so

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/10/17 09:25:40 (permalink)
My evening was eventful as well.  Hit the woods after work to get a quick sit in.
Get situated about 4:40 and pull my phone out to finish up a couple emails for work.  At 4:55 i thought I heard a crunch but not sure, look around and nothing.  A couple minutes go by and I notice a doe fawn directly under me.  hmm....sneaky.  She milled around for awhile then proceeded to bed down 15 yds from me, looking in my direction.  Luckily I was up about 25' so I could get away with small movements.  I was locked into my seated position now.  About 6pm, she perks up and I hear why.  More doe/fawns coming out of their bedding area and working their way to me.  In total, 5 more work they way around me.  About 615pm, I hear grunting but if it's a shooter, nothing I can do w/o getting busted so just watch.  Luckily, it was only a tall 3 pt. half hearted bumping some of the fawns and doe.  Not long after that, one of the momma does sniffs where I walk in and snorts a couple times and bounds off 20 yds.  Deer scatter but not far.  For the rest of the evening, the doe/fawns all mill around under me again, with mommas inspecting where I walked in thoroughly.  The 3 pt comes back in, bumps them off for good then browses under me until dark, and he also inspects my walking path well.  He finally works off and then a couple raccoons work their way through and I can finally get down out of the tree....  fun night.

Thunderpole take care of that flu dude. An old family remedy that always worked well for me calls for spending as much time needed sitting in the trees swinginging my feet while enjoying blowme and cheez samidges. Word of caution, use Grey poopon mustard only. The flu can block the nasal cavitys making it near impossible for telling if mayo blowme and cheez samidges smell funny.

Unless yinz can find a Pizza Hut what will deliver with out yinz having to climb down, and walk out to the stupid road.

Get well, not to quick.

Re: Archery season 2018 2018/10/17 20:36:23 (permalink)
Welp I climbed into my highchair for the first time, this afternoon.

Bout 5:45 there came a shot to my south. Then at 6 straight up, a shot to my north followed by a second and then, a third shot about thirty seconds apart. I'm guessing must a been one of them AK muzzle loaders as fast as they was firing. But then again, I don't think there is a law against carrying multiple muzzle loaders, is there? I mean hell, a guy could carry a golf bag full if he wanted to, I'm thinkin'.

Anyways, 'bout six 15ish out of no where appears my first deer and it is the three legged doe, no less. Gave some serious thought to putting her out of her misery but I wasn't sure just how high, above her shoulder, I should hold my pin for a 275 yard shot. Besides, Mother Nature has allowed her to survive for three years and with a fawn too.

Then one by one till a total of seven now feeds near my high rise ground blind which also, is 275 yards away.

Stayed away from the blind cause as most of yinz know, during firearms season yinz need a orange banner within 15 feet and visible 360 degrees as well as be dressed in appropriate orange apparel. So I decided to sit in a tree and in lieu of displaying an orange banner in the required manner, I chose to wear a stupid orange hat.

Welp, several of the deer did make their way toward my high chair then stopping about a 100 yards away, staring into the tree line, as if they were seeing some idiot sitting in a tree wearing a stupid orange hat.

Did I mention I also got my asz soaked in the brief but many, rain showers.

Gosh what memories I had, as I was swinging 20 feet off the ground, in cold gusty winds.

Will I do it again you may wonder, to which my answer would be just one word.

Hellyes!!!

Big Tuna I'm not sure I'm gonna use a gun the next three days. I'm kinda bashful 'bout showing my age.

Good luck to yinz who make it out though. But pleeze be careful where yinz shoot. Might be some old guy sitting in a tree swinging his feet.... wearing a stupid orange hat.

4:00 AM and my body is refreshing my brain of the many muscles I forgot I had. You know, the muscles required to sit in a swaying tree while wearing a stupid orange hat in gusty cold northwest winds.... in the rain.

What better time to enjoy my morning coffee and plan my day. Looking at my unofficial official "TheWeatherChannel" weather station I note the temp. is 39 degrees with a slight wind of 0.6 MPH and yes it really is, now just past, 4:00AM. I also learned my last sip of coffee turned cold and that "good to the last drop" is a crock of hooey!

Thanks to Big Tuna and others (thank you very much) I am torn between hunting with bow or gun. Decisions, decisions I'm thinking and sooo early in the morning. Then it dawns on me (not to be confused with sun rise) there's no law says I can not carry a bow and a gun, at least none that I know of... priceless! Shoot .... uhhh, harvest an antlerless deer with a bullet and kill... err, harvest a (legal) antlered deer, with a stick.

Gooder part, when using a stick, I only need be wearing a stupid orange hat!

But WAIT! even a better idea!!! Tylonol is kicking in..... Good night!😴

PS. Did yinz know, at 4:00 AM.... the sun ain't up yet?

Good luck to yinz able to make it out today.
