Re: LAKE WILHELM 2018 2018/05/11 23:05:59 (permalink)
Sorry MD, not me this morning but do hope to connect some time soon. Was 3:30ish this afternoon before I began the search for those elusive PA WhiteTailed Crappie. Elusive to say the least 'cause it was tough finding some, to invite home for dinner, and that total sum was only 9 this evening. But today wasn't about catching in as much as it was about a great afternoon on the water, fishing with my good friend registered.

The best way I can explain a day on the water with Rob would be to say, if you've not had the chance to fish with him, it sucks to be you. Always a good time when Rob is in town.

Re: LAKE WILHELM 2018 2018/05/13 23:13:45 (permalink)
For Mothers Day, I went fishing , and my wife enjoyed every minute I was gone, having a full day of piece and quiet.

Started the day out fishing for Crappie and I must say, fishing was tough in finding keepers.  Lots of 7 & 8 inchers but very few 9" or better fish.  Tossed various jigs and even tried a minnow or two under a slip bobber but I just couldn't find any fish I wanted to invite home for dinner.  Fished for Crappie up to 8 o'clockish when I switched to trolling, pulling a Hot-n-Tot and a Flickershad which I should have done sooner cause I began catching these.....  Stupid fish!!!!

Still, none made the invitation to dinner as all were released to maybe catch another day.  On a gooder note, many of the fish still contained eggs.

Well BTDT ...at least you got on the water and gave your wife a break ... lol. We had tickets to Pirate game but with the crazy weather figured we would give them to friends didn’t feel like getting wet ... they lost anyways! We went to casino in Erie and had a ball left some money up there but not all of it ... wife was happy all that counts ... hopefully back on the water soon... sounds like things have slowed down a little up there ....

My wife enjoyed me fishing, so much yesterday, she said I can do it again today. Oh boy, how gooder is that??

Mopars I saw people anchored and catching but what, or quality, I am not knowing. I do know my 'hot spots' were not so hot.

Cold front did drop the water surface temp to 60 degrees but the temperature was back to 62 by yesterday afternoon. So maybe, I hope, the better fish went deeper for a day or two.

On another note, Shenango anglers might be happy to hear Ken now has bait at "Bills Field & Stream" on RT 18 just north of the lake. At least that's what the sign in the parking lot is sayin'.

Umm. should have mentioned, Shenango was still covered by a thick blanket of fog (9:10AM). Stupid fog

Til next time, tight lines.

Hurry Thunderpole, I can't remember when (dam old timers) crappie fishing was as gooder as has been so far this year.

My wife did give me permission to go out yesterday and I brought home some Pansies, Geraniums, Dahlias, and Spike Grass which I think may be a invasive weed or sumpthin.  Today I dug up garden worms as I removed 6 dead bushes from in front of the house.  I think they may be related to the shad as, the long drawn out, freezing temps may have put the kibosh to those babies.

Wife says I can go out tomorrow though, and she will go along with me and show me where, to plant all the flowers we bought yesterday.

Good times and tight lines.

Thunderpole hope you were able to make it today (5/16). I hit the water at 3:00 this afternoon and quit just before dark.

15 in the box 11 to 13 inches and I tossed a few dozen 8 to 9 inchers back.

Plus a 15" walleye that went back to play another day.

Pictures at 11:00..... tomorrow, my butt is dragging for any photo-op tonight.

Well was on water at 7:15 this morning , as BTDT sometimes says .... STUPID FISH ! Caught some nothing to brag about . Dummy me didn’t get live minnie’s. Had some Walmart special minnie’s In oil ... just let me say they suck !! But did get some small crappies nothing for the box though. Used them for about 1 1/2 hr ... then decided to troll with Hot & Tot’s for 3 hrs got 1 small walleye and even smaller crappy.... lol. So I decided had enough of this crap ...also lost charge on my 1 battery for electric trolling motor and my fish finder ..... STUPID BATTERY !! Then came home and wife & I mowed the STUPID GRASS... so all I got ... yep we are tired puppies ..... lol

Re: LAKE WILHELM 2018 2018/05/18 12:07:02 (permalink)
15 MPH winds from the east forecast for today. Might want to take a sailboat rather than a yak.

Just watching a dude chasing Gar around in Texas, using a pedal yak, on the Sportsman channel. Dang fish was nearly as long as the yak... good grief!!!

Some guy was pedaling one of them yaks when I was launching at 4 last week. Would take me forever to get back out of a yak after doing that. Probably would be easier for me to roll the thing over in the water and dump my asz out.

Good luck if you make it out this afternoon. As for this weekend and the weather, I'm thinking maybe might could should try some shore fishing myself. Right now, I hear a nap calling my name.

Good times......

I got soaked myself 'cept I wasn't fishin'. Better half said I could go play in the water today and see how the power washer removes paint and cleans the deck on the back of the house. The gooder part though, she said the next time the weather turns nice again, I can go, paint the deck.

Thunder, if I might ask, are you fishing your bait just beneath the surface or going just off the bottom. Fishing shallow off of deeper (8' ish) water or fishing the deeper water. Live bait, jigs under bobbers, or just tossing jigs and allowing them to fall?

Lastly but not leastly, what size are you refering to "dinks"?

Thanks Steve, I had a ball trolling this afternoon (5/21). Stupid crappie wouldn't leave my lures alone. I started out throwing fish back but as time passed, and no walleye, I put a few in the box for safe keeping. Lost a couple beautes near the boat but you'll have that.😩 Finally the Walleye hit and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.😜
