Good luck to all headed out. Took a walk this afternoon and found some dead EHD deer in another one of my spots. I am slowly running out of options this fall to have an area to hunt that has not been devastated by EHD.

Mopars we're gonna try like hell to poke one with a stick this year. Not gonna have much gun time or late season stick flinging so I can't pass any first shots. Even though those big earred little rascals are so dammed cute.

Almost forgot buddy, good luck stabbing that badboy in your picture, with a pointy stick.

Dms the EHD situation in your area sounds epidemic. Hearing dead deer in numbers that you and few others have reported is very sad. Even more disheartening is the animals going to complete waste.

Hope the problem has peaked and things soon change for the better in your area.

I unfortunately will be in the same boat tomorrow morning at work. Go figure hunting season comes and the work piles up. Going to try and get out in the afternoon. Did manage to schedule vacation for the end of October/ beginning of November though so I'm looking forward to that.

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see some pics this month

More recon than anything else buddy. I haven't put my field cameras out since I took the cams down this past spring.

I got to thinking the same thing about the little rascals showing up only at night.

I swear the cuties was coming around just to get their picture took and appear on the internet.

My plan this year, is put the cams out only during the daytime, and when those sweet things come looking to get their picture took, it'll be me wearing a GoPro,

"WHACK" ..... a double lunger.

Priceless!!! umm, if I remember the stupid arrows.

Try an evening or two buddy starting with this afternoon.

As for me, a trip to Lowe's for some decking early today, has me on my platform Monday. Hopefully?πŸ˜•

Was suppose to get material for my hunting deck but on my way, I says to myself, self maybe I should plan for a food plot in the vicinity of my humble hunting Adobe.

So this afternoon, shovel in hand, I planted one 5' Cortland and two 6' Honey Crisp apple trees. Mind you, these trees are now located 200 yards from the planned location of the Adobe so, I don't want yinz thinking I'm hunting over bait or anything.

Learned some important info while planning and implementing this project.... I'm tooooo danged old for this....... I need a nap.

I would surely never accuse you of hunting over bait ..... oh I mean food plots ... lol I can relate to the getting to dang old for this stuff or in fact anything that involves work πŸ˜œπŸ‘

Now my day got interesting my scope on the crossbow is messed up just what one needs when you are chasing those Pa Whitetail critters 😑... noticed I had to be resighting it last few times ... had it all zeroed in yesterday , today when left the woods , fired into the bag to unload it stupid thing shoots low so I resight it in again thought good to go. Wasn’t going out this evening so figured after dinner I would shot it again just to make sure ... well this time it shoot about 8” high dang near missed the bag 😑... my Son has same problem few years back with his crossbow , replace scope and he was good to go. The scopes take a beating so probably not a shame ... 175 pound bow ...scope is 5-6 yrs old ... that’s the way it is guess the show goes on , what ya going to do ...guess i’ll Be scope hunting before deer hunting ... πŸ‘

Nothing like a new scope to make a guy feel like hunting.

I think most guys using crossbows have the same problem with scopes. Me, I like the idea of a faulty scope. I need allllll the excuses I can get. I use em too.

Progress report.......

Coffee in hand I sat in my favorite deer stand, watching the sun rise in the East sky and the steam rising, from the frosted fields. 31 degrees at my location this morning but I never felt the nip of Jack Frost, as I peered through the glass, of the dining room doors. Binoculars sat ready, atop the table, to assist me with seeing the kind of condition, the condition was in.

Not a bunny, squirrel or, whitetail as the sun, climbed higher in the sky. So it was off to the man cave to work on the platform, building it on the fly.

Today was stairway day and plan the entrance way.

Entrance will be through a trap style door.

When not in use the ladder swings up into the frame where it can be secured.

1. The Amish will go nuts trying to figure out how to get into this one. No exterior door and the ladder, when secured, looks like part of the frame. They'll be thinking "sum clazy englishmon built this von... yah"?

2. I can pull the ladder up and secure it from inside so the deer won't know, I'm inside, waiting to kill them. Priceless!

Ha Haa....Thanks buddy but be next year before any HVAC is installed. Be using a ground blind, on top, for the time being and poking hot stove pipe through nylon roof could make for heap big fire and make BTDT cry....... real hard.😭 lmao

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/10/02 18:17:02 (permalink)
Since this is my first quasi archery season, I wanted to throw out my plan to gather some thoughts.

I will be hunting on our property, which currently contains open fields and a wooded creek bottom. We have a 12X12 platform which is 15 feet in the air that sits along the creek.

Trail cam photos and observations ( from the patio) for the past two years (and so far this year) confirm that there are no decent resident bucks nor decent frequent visitor bucks. Most are non legal or smallish legal.

However, during the week before Halloween extending for the next week, visiting bucks show up with some frequency. Last year, 17 different bucks that would nicely grace my fireplace showed up within 10 days, on either side of Halloween.

Since I have killed plenty of deer with a firearm, I have no interest in harvesting any of the smaller resident bucks. Although I would like to test the crossbow, I really don't want to shoot a doe either -- I still have meat from last year and I want them to serve as rut bait -- although there are plenty of them around.

At this point, my plan is to wait until Halloween week to hunt. I hunt to shoot things, not to just be out there, since I can be out there almost any day due to living there.

If I were to go any earlier than that, I would probably harvest a fawn ( if I could bring myself to do it) in order to complete the crossbow test.

Thoughts?
