Had a 3 point walk under me last night.

@ same stand this AM and had a 5 pt. about 25 yds out around 7:30 and milled around for 10 min. and then a little after 8, had a doe come in and hung around for 20 min.  A little after 9 am, saw/heard a deer coming down through the thick hillside out from me and above me but never could tell what it was.  Lost eyes on it and it must have walked out away from me.  Got down around 9:35 am.

Afternoon hunt ...3 scrapes on path moved my one camera closer to the scrapes to see what I can get. Nothing but squirrels & blue jays for 3 hrs in stand ... then hit field standing by car almost dark , 5 doe and 2 bucks came out from other end of the field the one buck was the big boy ,still had bow cocked with bolt in ...tried everything to call them down but about 250 yds just wasn’t going to happen . Heck they didn’t seem interested in the doe either but they did butt heads a few times that was cool ... oh well like they say sh— happens 😜👍. These were on camera tonight .... Good lucks guys ...

Great pics Mopars thanks for sharing. Scrapes sound exciting, bucks still together OK too. Either neither is hot-to-trot or a more dominant buck rules the roost and those two seek safety in numbers. LoL.

I took a stroll and found two, never been there before the rains, scrapes today. Both were lightly pawled, but enough ground was disturbed to cause a look see in a few days. No licking branch was established as the tree limbs over the scrape were tipped with leaves nor have the broken or chewed ends.

Field cam on the front porch of the highrise ground blind got a distant shadowy figure wearing a respectable hat rack.

No go yet for hunting or fishing, should wait for a couple more weeks so I'm hoping anything legal, moves at night and out of sight, of brown and down clans.

Antler restrictions suck. Stupid Game Comm. anyhow.

I saw a deer at 6:45 last evening in the same spot that I saw the buck in the morning. It was too dark to tell what it was and it just melted back into the corn.

This morning, I saw four antlerless— standing in my neighbor’s yard — LOL — on my way out of the woods.

I just went to the store for a few things, coming back I decide to use the back road. Came around the bend , thank God I no longer drive fast, and there stood 5 doe in the middle of the road! Just standing there but staring back the way they must have come from. Three of them went n their way but two just stood there till I blew my horn and they calmly walked into the woods too. I figure there was a buck somewhere behind them.

Had some action tonight, saw bigger body coming through the thick stuff at 6:15. Standing ding at 15 yards,I'm ready to fill my doe tag, safety off lighted pin on. Something doesn't look right, small antlers protruding from his head. Yea my luck a fat spike with 5" antlers. A fringing spike in the Pittsburgh suburbs. lol

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/10/29 07:12:16 (permalink)
Got my vacation started yesterday afternoon. Was a damp afternoon in the stand. Rain finally taperd off just before 5 and not too long after I had an unknown buck chase a doe through the thick brush 50yds from me. Chased her by one more time a few minutes after that, then never saw them again. Let out a few grunts at 5:15, then around 5:30 had a deer start working in from the north. Looked to be a doe so I got turned and ready for it to come into range. As it slowly picked its way through the brush I could finally see it was a really dinky 4pt. He worked to within 10yds of me until he hit the small trail I had walked in on. He stopped dead in his tracks and just stood there kind of half squatted. Figured he picked up my scent and was getting ready to bolt, but as he just continued to stand there looking nervous I heard a foot stomp and numerous snorts come from behind me. The small buck and I stood there like stones for what seemed to be forever as I tried hard as I could to bend my eyes around the back of the tree to see what buck was comming in. Finally a large forkhorn stepped out and the 2 confronted each other. Thought I was going to get to see a sparring show, but the dinky one surely knew he was going to get his azz handed to him and turned and walked back from where he came from. The big forkhorn made a rub then moved his way through as well. No action the rest of the evening, but the clouds finally parted around 6 and gave way to a nice sunset.

Good reads fellas, won't be long before crazy season begins. Saw one deer yesterday, laying in a ditch, about a mile up the road.

Today is look see day for me and I'll be checking the field cams as well as the two scrapes, that suddenly appeared this past week. Be interesting to see if they've been reworked or abandoned.

Not expecting to see much but it should be a good day, for a quiet walk in the woods.

Keep those reports coming and good luck.

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/10/29 14:18:32 (permalink)
My moose hunting customer brought me another shopping bag of meat burger, round steak, sirloin steaks. About 18 lbs. Another bag will equal a nice size deer. lol Don't know if any of you have eaten moose, but it great. I'm heading to Ohio soon for a Sunday afternoon hunt,it got the look of a day to smoke a buck, cold dreary and a mist in the air. I'm ready, will Mr Bucky be? Just got back from Rite Aid, a little surprise, my 90 day supply of meds went from 48.00.to 112.00. It's just great to be a senior citizen. So it's now 448.00 a year from 192.00. Oh well enough complaining. Saw Marco today,he passed on a small 8 pts and saw a big one at Pymy, but it was to early to see his pin. I bought some ground pork to add  4 lbs of deer burger,it will fill two 2.5x 20" casings to make summer sausage. 5 hours it the smoker at 165 degrees and walla. Oh well I better get going. Just filled the van up with almost free gas. lol I had 2.30 off a gallon, I paid 13.80 for 30 gallon. But as we all know nothing free in life. I'll report back after I harvest my buck. lol

Re: Bow season .... let the fun begin 2017/10/29 16:38:28 (permalink)
Made it back from the Pennsylvania Wilds or at least, my little piece of it.  Didn't see anything worth screaming about.  Kinda looks like the calm before the crazy season.  Drizzling rain with patchy fog developing sparsely in the tree tops, along the edges of the fields.  Near perfect conditions for ghost and goblins.

Field cams showing a bit of that ghost like activity as the elusive white tail seem to appear then disappear, just as quickly. No bucks stopped by for a visit, at least not near the high-rise ground blind or within camera range.

Did catch this whitetail as it passed by, allowing for a check of the tarsal glands.  Doesn't look like this one is "hot to trot" quite yet which says there is still time, before crazy season get's into full swing.

Passed up this little guy on Friday evening.  His left side was messed up.  Looks to be a 2.5 yr old.  May be interesting in a year or two if he makes it.  He came out around 6pm, milled about for a awhile then went on down over the hill and I watched him harass a young doe for awhile.
Had a group of nice gobblers roost 50 yds down the ridge from me at last light.  I was too lazy to head back in the AM to try to get one with the opening of turkey.  Saw the rain forecast and decided to catch up on sleep.  Should be getting good this week, if the wind/rain will let up some.

Great picture Eyes. Hell if I had that buck under my stand, it would be my first legal I could shoot, in ten years.

Ummm... wait, somehow that don't sound good?

Let me rethink that, and I'll get back to yinz. Meanwhile enjoy the hunt and good luck to yinz.

Morning sit produced one little spike that hung around forever. Tried to make it through the afternoon sit, but after 2 1/2hrs of sitting in the gale force winds and rain not seeing anything, mother nature beat me and I called it quits early.

Did check the camera today though. Sometimes I wish I didn't have it. Showed a large 8pt passing by one of my stands Saturday afternoon while I decided to sit in the stand on the other end of the property 😒.

Back at it in the AM with hopefully more favorable conditions. Good luck out there!

Saw 9 this morning 5 doe, 3 bucks and 1 unknown. Missed one of the does. 2of the bucks were little guys and the other was a big gnarly 10 who was locked down on a doe. They bedded down about 60 yds from me for 2-3 hrs. I tried grunting, rattling, even the can call, he just wouldn’t leave her. Also had a flock of 10-12 turkeys come in but didn’t attempt any shots. Saw nothing this evening

Hopefully tomorrow will bring an opportunity for success.
