The crazy weather pattern we've been stuck in continues. Brutal cold followed by a day of heavy wind before today's deluge worked on through with temperatures reaching the mid 50's. A lot of standing water from the snow melt and rain that is bound to freeze up over night. Black ice will be everywhere as will pothole city from the thaw and freeze cycle. I don't miss my patrol days on the Saw Mill, Bronx River, Hutchinson River and Cross County Parkways in weather like this.

The rain yesterday couldn't have been better timing for me. It got rid of the foot of snow on the lakes and now we are back to easier walking conditions. There were no real issues on my commute to work this morning. Salters had things pretty coated by 6am. We are 2/3rds through winter already. I know we can still get blasted with snow in March but it will melt much quicker and if it just stays cold now, I'm golden. Last season sucked weather wise imo. Lots of snow then a very warm spring that lead to almost drought conditions going into summer followed by endless rain.
I'm excited to start week 8 on the ice tomorrow and Sunday. My winter vacation starts in 2 weeks and it will be an all assault on the fish

Wishful thinking HT since we are actually 1/3 of the way through Winter. One day closer to Spring is better than the other way around. Have fun this weekend and don't forget to photos.

I like March. Still solid ice to fish. If it snows, it melts but ground gets tight at night. April kinda sucks. Mud season, water usually to high or muddy to fish. April for me is a reorganization month.

Clint S We were spared the LE event at least here I have not gone up to Pulaski yet. Another event next week
I went to a friend from Pulaski's son's wedding yesterday in Oswego, drove up around 2-3:30 from Rochester, beautiful sunshine, had to use the shades it was so bright. Got up on 104 north of the Fulton turnoff (Rt 3), long rise to a ridge top , road there named Tug Hill road, yesterday I could see why, on a completely clear day you have to be able to see the hill from there. Looking north over the lake and east to the horizon was a wall of grey to black clouds, obviously obliterating the hill. After dinner, around 07:00, the groom came over and told us that Watertown had been buried under about 3 feet, and he had just gotten call from a friend who was working in Pulaski so had to miss the wedding who said it had basically just started there, but they had 5 inches in next to no time. We took our leave and headed back to Rochester so as to avoid a further swing of the LE to the south, to at least get west of Cayuga County before we had to deal with the snow (104 is fairly level and straight through Wayne County), made it home fine to Rochester by 08:30, but woke up to 2 new inches this AM, and VERY nasty road conditions getting to the Church gig at 08:00. Today will be a good day to cruise the Northern Chateau website to see some truly significant snow fall! Would have been hell driving through it if it had shifted last night, why I rarely hit the east end streams in winter anymore.

Snowing here as I type, might get 4-6 inches,I know that.s a dusting for Salmon Country but it's a big deal here.At least it looks like it will stay snow and not a mix of snow/rain,that mix is a real pain to blow off the loooong driveway.

Turning into a b buster. Not wet and heavy but its accumulated. First plowing done at 7.5 inches and still coming. Unlike last storm, I don't want any rain. Last week we got over 12. " with warming temps to follow. I wanted it knocked down and melt away. If it hadn't, I'd be in the feet range with this storm and sub zero to follow. February is really my least favorite endeavor month. Seems the coldest month of the year. Only saving grace is March

Not too bad in the mid Hudson region. Approximately 6" of snow fell yesterday into last night. Three inches fell before changing over to a rain/snow mix then three more inches on top of that frozen layer. Took a little over three hours to clear the cars, driveway and walk. The sun is strong enough to melt any residual snow but that will freeze once the arctic blast moves in later today. Watch out for that black ice if you happen to be out and about tonight.
