Skim ice in a few bays on local lakes is the best I can do.

My bayou is totally covered and made for a less than successful hunt for two friends. wishing to bag a few ducks on T-day.

Weather dude gonna try fixing that, the next coming days, by sending some sunshine (other than me, I mean) and mid range 40 degree temps to my little piece of Penn's Woods. Yeah, like I've not been hearing that for a while.👍

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoying this festive "Black Friday" season, from the comfort of their laptops and smart phones.

I got some great deals already and "shipping was free"!!!

Good luck to those making trips to field and stream.

Negative 4 on the mountain, this is the last hoorah for me. I know of a pike and tiger musky lake that is good to walk . Hopefully gonna get my boots wet first next weekend.

Clint I thought the same thing, 'cept I think I should of waited till the temps got above 32 degrees before washing my truck.

Ohhhh well, bit cold on the hands but at least the garden hose didn't freeze.  Hands probably wouldn't got cold either if I didn't have to use a mit to wash the stupid 'Bambi Bumper' I hung on the front end.

Well I cut enough trees for next years wood. I cheated this year and cut them from the edge of the back pasture. No going in the woods no dragging them out AND no 2mile tractor ride to the wood lot. Should be enough around that pasture for 5 years. All heavily leaning really crooked cherry. Some are starting to go so it was time to thin them. Left the 10inch ones on 10years they will be wood. Only got to 24 here

Heat wave coming, looking at rising temps tonight, high 30's tomorrow. The big lake here is locked. Signs ahead indeed.
My friend took his first deer on the mountain today, all good stuff.
We also got 5 inches dry fluff yesterday. Nice quiet woods right now.
It ain't over until my fat mouth sings 😁

Stay warm and , not so busy Clint.

I took a Google Map trip along historical RT 6, for reasons unknown, and when I got to Colorado I started picking up "WINTER STORM WARNINGS" posted at the bottom of the screen.  Clicking on one such warning I learned I could expect up to 2 feet of snow with blowing winds reaching 50 MPH so I turned around, and hightailed it home.

Cool thing about the trip, the map must be current 'cause the mountain tops are highlighted in white from the snow caps.  One of the best map scene's I can recall, and I wasn't even there.  Priceless!!

Cool picture HT, nice shot.

I don't know whether to be singing "rain rain go away", "row row your boat" , or just building a boat.

Opening fire arms for the elusive PA. White Tailed Deer (antlered only) begins, here in my little piece of Penn's Woods, this coming Monday.

Weather dude aint making friends, from my area, what with a forecast of wet, warm, and windy on Monday. Mid 40s, rain and winds gusting into the 30 MPH range.

Be sitting in my deer stand singing "rock-a-bye BTDT in a tree"... ugh!!!

Good luck all and be safe.

I've had 17 deer pass by me so far this morning and got 1 lying 25 yards behind me just watching.
Horns don't much matter to me it's body size. These deer up here are very lean and small. Eventually big momma will stroll in or their daddy.

Good luck on Monday BTDT

Amazing how fast 15* temps makes us thankful for 30* temps!
The biggest thing I dislike is the freeze, thaw, mud cycle.... makes everything a mess and difficult for EMS working stretchers through yards. I would rather have it just freeze and stay that way.

Day 13 and over 100hrs, this is the last stance on my 2018 deer hunting season.
35 degrees and light misty rain. Seems like a good day to be in the woods.
Going for broke till noon then I have to pull out my blinds for another year.
It's been great but I'm very tired .
Ready for a change of pace so bring on that cold weather ice dance please, JACK.

Rule #ONE......DON'T MOVE! Sorry Rich,I could n't resist it.I'm sitting here in Ohio looking at flow guages that are telling me conditions are not ideal,so I decided to spare me the work of trying to find fishable water. Now there is rain/snow in the forecast which will screw it up more,so I'm looking for good driving conditions to bug out of here for the drive over the mountains of central Penna back home..No fishing this trip!

I think we've all been there HT.  Years ago, during bow season, I woke late but got to my climber without spooking any deer.  Half way up the tree and still climbing I see a nice eight pointer walking up the trail about 15 yards away.  That ****ed deer looks at me but doesn't run as I'm slowly trying to pull my bow on it's tow rope to knock an arrow for a broadside shot.  Got the bow, knocked the arrow, but the deer walked just far enough into some saplings so I couldn't get a clear shot.  Such is hunting.

It was a good last day afield. I took a nice deer this morning.

There are times to move and others not. All goes with everything outdoors.
I blew it, done it many times in past and will in future.
All in all we harvested 3 nice deer this season. Now more work begins.
Countless freezing hrs spent would never happen without friend and family.
The smiles ( or not ) on my kids face and dedication make it all a sweet memory to me, that's the goal!!

My friend took his first time there doe yesterday. I passed on 22 yesterday but took my harvest size animal today , on the last day of our 13 days on the mountain.
The deer in the picture is my son with his personal best on the mountain last Saturday. A few lifetime memories are made on that mountain and I'm glad to be a part of them.

Nice Rich. Although I still get my license every year I lost my zeal for hunting about the time I started fishing more 15 or so years ago.  I just can't sit still and stay warm, even with the gear on. With fresh beef coming in the need for ''healthy'' meat is not a priority.

Re:Weather thread 2018/11/25 19:22:09 (permalink)
...... and so closes another chapter in the book of memories.  Congratulations to you and your son, HT.

Tomorrow I shall continue my hunt not for the elusive PA.White Tailed Antlered Deer but rather for my new adobe.  Rumor has it there may be a real wall hanger coming about and I don't want to miss out.  Tomorrow brings a go look see and I'm hoping the place is for me.

Plenty of time remains for a harvest as tomorrow is the first day of a two week season and what with the weather forecast, I'll just let the first day pass.

I was an avid hunter instilled by the guidance through my grandfather and dad.
As I was a young boy and growing, they seemed to grow faster. Saddened was the days both passed away, it took the gumption out of hunting for me and i turned to more fishing throughout the hunting times.
It's my children, now adults, that want to share that experience I once had.
I am so grateful for them , they are good solid people.
Someday, all to soon , they will pass that experience along to my grandchildren.

Peace and tuna.

My dad is not an outdoorsmen at all. He is a tried and true sports guy and we share our time with that and the farm. Sadly I really have no one to share my outdoor experiences with so things like hunting which is truly not a passion gets put to the side. A high school girlfriends father got me into fishing and we try to go when we can , but he is a caregiver to his wife so his time away is limited. I guess I really like fishing because I do not mind  doing it alone and it gives me clarity. The times I do send fishing with friends are priceless. As Cheryl Crow says ''If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad''.
