Dadburn temperature took a dive here too...  rain and 68 today.

We are to get 6” of snow with mixed on top of that. There is about 4” already covered in glaze ice from the last round. It is impossible to walk on.

At least the new stuff might break the fall from the ice underneath.

I have to be very careful letting the dogs out because it is too easy for them to slip and tear a ligament. Bet there are some deer down with split pelvis from the ice.

Well, the plan was to fish till you puke.
Sadly the figurative speech turned into reality.
I got real sick about 8am yesterday. Nothing like trying to set up and fish with the flu in -6 temperatures.
I stuck it out until 3 PM then couldn't take no more vomiting , sweating and shivering.
Spent the rest of day in bed until 8am this morning and packed up for home.
Caught some Lakers but it was one of the toughest days I've experienced.

Huge winds tomorrow so I will probably just rest up in bed and hopefully salvage the vacation on ice Friday-Sunday

Well we got our weekly slop storm yesterday, only 3-4 inches of snow then freezing rain.Got out there and blew off the snow before the rain came, now I'm waiting for the Sun to melt the ice so I can get out of here.Looking at the ten day forecast indicates some mild temps and rain Hope this is the beginning of the end to this winter!

I felt sorry for Boston, but it was nice to "weather  a storm" and only have 2" of powder!   Have to check on my son later, he is in GA, and the front went right through his area, but I think the funnel clouds stayed to the west of GA, and the east in Alabama.  Sorry for all those poor people in eastern Alabama, though.

Its getting closer.
Every afternoon my yard turns to MUD. Any snowfall is now wet .
I see 50' s on the horizon.
Hopefully March winds dry things before April showers

The 10"+ I received from the last two storms melted quite a bit except for today.  No noticeable melt as the driveway surface is bone dry with no run off from the piles of snow lining my paved areas.  Even the gutters and leaders were quiet.
April can't get here fast enough regardless what it might bring.

I hear Clint and Andy probably got in a week more than my season.
Eastern Adirondacks have less than a foot snowpack. Western to Utica is even less.
As far as I've traveled both directions, major rivers are not ice packed with lots of open waters.
This is all good news no matter what happens in March when thaws occur. I only wish the sunlight and winds dry a slow night freeze, day thaw ahead
April is the BAD month. Sitting around waiting to plant the garden , hunt and fish if April doesn't be the spoiler

With the temps locally in the teens and single digits at night there is no thawing yet,BUT the temps are going up next week so the snow will melt and the mud will arrive!

It's only 3.5 weeks to Finger Lakes Opening Day, but of course I've opened the inland trout season in snow many years before!

Less than 6 in deep woods, bare ground or mud in sunlight areas.
Rain forecasted Sunday , well above freezing all next week.
We are getting closer to garden and farm time. My chicken and hog reserve orders have been placed for April 22nd.
Indoor planting has begun

The groundhog can’t be off by much. This morning I had the dogs out for a run (them, not me —LOL) and there were killdeer about, even as a light snow was falling. It won’t last long now.

Its a little early to plant indoors I think. I won't start my stuff for at least a month. We got 1.5  feet from the LE event.  3  plus feet on the ground, my syrup evaporator is buried. Weather starting to get good, but with increased flows fishing ill be tough this spring I think

Last year I planted way to early indoors. First week of February and had stuff everywhere running out of space.
I just started my indoor plants on 3/1 and think its perfect timing here now.
I ordered my chickens for delivery on April 9th and pigs shortly after.

I'll still probably be walking on ice after the temps this week. Its growing, not slowing

Re:Weather thread 2019/03/07 22:04:43 (permalink)
You may be able to get them outside earlier.  I have found that after a certain time inside the plants tend to get spindly and do not survive as well outside.   Any melon type or creeping plant I don't like over 3 to 4 inches.  And 2 to 3 true leaves (not seed leaves).  Matos's , eggplants and peppers , I start sooner. Cabbage , broccoli cauliflower, head lettuce 10 weeks or about now  I never have good luck with those so I usually buy.  Remember a plant like cucumber needs about 60 days to harvest. Planted today 60 days would get you to mid may. We usually are just starting to plant outside then. Too much growth indoors will not give the plant enough time and sun  to really root off outside before it feels like it has to flower and produce fruit.  It will lead to a weak plat or a plant that has to use its energy to root out to survive and not have enough juice to produce good fruit.
Here is my usual time frame. Melons 4 weeks,  tomatoes, peppers eggplant 7 weeks,   cabbage , broccoli , cauliflower 10 weeks or about now.

I'm just sick of mud. Don't care what's next.
Gathering firewood with a wheelbarrow was a mess.
Easier to hand carry.
I don't see any droughts ahead
