No mater when you start them you can't get them in the ground until it is ready. If They get too big even in the GH they will outgrow their space if not enough. Its a balancing act for sure. I still end up buying plants every year due to loss. Always seems that the stuff I start from seeds in the ground is the heartiest. I put in my strawberries today as I totally gutted the patch and started over. 60 plants

Nice going Clint. I'm pretty much outside sunrise till sunset now. Put some of my pickle cukes, zucchini and regular cuke plants in tonight. Currently, 12 pickle , 6 regular and 12 zucchini in the ground. Still have 24 pepper plants to go in and bunch more herbs. My leftover plants are 16 tomato and 12 squash I need to find a home for. Garlic is cranking. I planted them last fall.
Picked up 250 more lbs pig feed. 200lbs mash and 50 lbs cracked corn. $40.00 out the door. It should last 4-5 weeks. Also working the firewood pile tonight . Split another cord . My pile is not gonna cut it this winter. About 3.5 cord. Mostly white oak .50% standing dead, not rotten. Can probably scab another cord in the woods but they are getting thick.
Can't wait to see some of the fruits of our labors

Questions. I built a trough about a month ago. Now they are climbing in it. Should I raise it up or not worry about them eating mud. Also, you'll see the blue rain barrel. It has a spicket on it. Is this suffice or should I keep doing a water bowl , which they tip over anyway. Ps, they are getting big fast .

Rich I'll stand corrected but Pigs do not sweat and with very little hair they need to keep cool by "wallowing" in the mud. Also helps with the bugs. My neighbor would play a garden hose in a area of his 'piggery' making a wetspot and it wasn't long before the pigs rooted out thier own mud hole which of course needs to be kept wet. Problem is, they keep it wet too and it can become a bit odiferous. Didn't stop the pigs from dumping the troughs either, little darlings root under everything. I see you reinforced along the bottom of your fence, good idea. May even consider a small fencer and run wire around the bottom inside. Don't need high tensil wire and do not buy a "high impedence" or a unit made for "miles" of fence thinking the bigger the better.
Congrats on the size of your hogs, I smell the bacon cooking already.

Mine will take a dump in the trough and then eat the food. That's why they taste sooooooo good. Do either with the water, but they need a wet spot r to roll in

Thanks for the replies. They seem to do their crapping in 1 area away from the food and shelter. I've been able to use straw and rake then compost the waste twice but the wet weather is taking a toll on the 30X30 foot square. I'm pretty sure I'm going to put legs on the trough to keep them from climbing in. Probably over thinking things .

Pretty cool fisherlady. As Clint said, our rat dog would play cat and mouse with them. I'm sure the pigs would devour them. Nice concrete set up you got going. I hope to retire someday. Time is never on my side so it's mostly ball to the wall. Wasn't expecting to do wood duty tonight but 1 -3 miles from my house, tree services are cutting all along power lines. Got 3 loads tonight, there are probably another 10 loads here and there. Mostly ash and maple. I hope there is some left tomorrow because I'm beat and still have much to do before sun goes down. Ps, it's rained here about every 3rd day alyay on a weekend. Steady soaking but days like Sat , Monday and today dry things up quickly .

It's been a sow week due to the heat. I have one more planting of corn, beans and peas next week to stagger them so I don't get everything at once. I opened up another 1/4 acre. For next year for corn and 1/4 acre for some fruit trees in the fall, just trying to level it out so I can mow between them. pig is getting big. Strawberries are doing pretty good. Unfiltered outside spigot is in so I don't plug my house filters with watering garden. I am shocking my well today due to iron bacteria so no water for a day. Back to work next week to rest. On a side note a POSSIBLE trip to Ontario in August may be shaping up

I don't know what the neighbor uses for fertilizer but the field to my south was dirt brown and had nothing but some weeds growing, two days ago. Today that field is green with 6" high corn. As for me. no more garden to play in the dirt, so to keep busy I've been running my weed eater. Man I wish I had some equipment here. Most everything I do has to be done by manual labor. Thankfully I at least have a lot splitter and atv. Yesterday evening was garden detail. Today will be all firewood all day as I think I have a helper at least he better help if he wants to burn wood this winter. Here are a few pictures on how the garden is progressing. Still some more to do but it's a good start.

Man I wish I had your kind of energy. lol. Building/planting raised gardens, planting fruit trees, creating a mini-piggery and raising two hogs, splitting fire wood and maintaining an inground pool??? Speaking of hogs let's not forget those stripers. Gardens look good HT and those pigs sure are getting big. I can see it now, BBQ pork steaks, grilled veggies, blackened striper...... when's the pool party, buddy? 😜

Ok things are as best they can be for awhile. I will be fishing pretty hard until July 4th from here on out, no more weekends at the house. Delivered about a cord of cut & split wood this morning, for free, why me .. Cut , split ,stacked another 2 cord here for me :). Pulled camper out of hibernation and all good there. Did a little mowing, a little gardening and burned a bunch junk wood. Geesh, I'm actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow and get paid ,,,, not !! I need a retirement job

Have always kept bird feeders around the house- like to see the birds. They attract bushytails and chipmunks eating the dropped seeds. Both became a big problem with a nearby strawberry patch- sooo- this year no feed in the feeders till later in the Summer. Great berry crop coming in without the furbearers bothering them- both always got past the netting.
