Sam, if you have black crappies in your home lake, they will still be in shallow water all summer. Find the BrushPile's in eight to ten foot that come up to four or five feet below the surface. They'll be there. I'm telling you, they'll be there. Big fish too. As the sun gets higher in the sky, move to the shaded side of the brush. They may stop biting around eleven o'clock but they are still there. Get there early. BTDT time is for jetskiers. Haha.
Brock, I'll tell him if I see him Thursday.

Chauncy - majority of crappie in Aurthur are black, at least 5 to 1.  And we catch scattered ones all summer long, but one of the problems with Arthur is that there isn't any deep brush.  Well, not NONE, but very little.  The commission drops trees along the shoreline, and you can find an occasional sunken fish attractor.  But the glory days of good brush are long gone.

Your advice is still good though.  I need to put in some time on the sonar and find those slabs.  Tried to lure BTDT down last weekend but he ditched me.  The rejection stings a little.

I'm sorry😳...... I know I missed a good time.

But the family home from Texas for a week followed by, a wedding on Sat; welllll Sunday was 😴 time for this Ole boy.

I thought maybe a raincheck but this week, looks like all we'll git dun is checking the rain.

Which I might add, was projected by Captain Hook cause he sayed not to water the garden (which I don't have), thank him very much.πŸ˜‹

PS. Having the family home was great and the wedding was beautiful but the goodest part was all the hugs and kisses I got cause I'm just sooo dam cute.

Free booze didn't hurt either..... til Sunday!!!

Sam, I'm sure that some of that shoreline brush they put in isn't producing any good fishing. Make a three foot rebar hook. Grab those trees and drag them out to the drop off and drop them there. Don't let people see you doing it as they'll claim those spots as their own. I've done this many times on my home Lake and made some pretty productive spots. Doesn't have to be done at night either. Did mine at sunrise. First trailer in the lot. Remember to scout your spot out first so you know how far to drag it.

So people who don't have the luxury of a thousand dollars worth of electronics, use the maps that tell them there are trees sunken off shore, and are sitting over barren spots?  Nice, poor saps........

I dunno, I happen to know a really nice guy who has some expensive electronics, rods, reels, boxes of baits and other fishing paraphenelia who can't catch fish. And NOW your saying all I need to do is throw tree branches in the water!!! Stupid fish!!!

BTW....... Who needs electronics, I find the brush piles all the time ........ while trolling.

That's really a fantastic idea.  Can't believe I haven't come across that before.  I know that guys (and the commission for that matter) will make their own brush piles and leave them on the ice, but I have this aversion to both cold and falling through ice to my watery death.  I have some perfect spots for that action too.  :)

Bought one of them big Ole clumsy flashy gadgets myself. Can't remember the exact date but was in the seventies.

I believe the price was $99.99 and I bought it at Fergies on Wilhelm. Mounted the thing on my 16ft Starcraft SS.

Like today, back then, I knew nothing about the operation but like today, back then, I sure did look good.

I think mine can be found in a landfill somewhere in Ohio. However, Fergies is certainly still working. Though under new ownership, some years back.

Kokanee thanks for mentioning the Lowranger Flasher. Many many great memories.

UH-OH I may be in trouble cause I'm sure I've moved structure around a few times.  Either by dredging with "lead core" or dislocating it with my prop.  Come to think of it, all the lures I've lost, would make a pretty good structure.  Dam-it-boy!!!

Congrats to the guys that are catching. Chauncy, you are the crappie King! Gave it a shot trying to find walter this afternoon, but ended up with nothing but cats. Two big ones put up a hell of a fight making me think they were going to be large eyes, but it wasn't so.

BTDT, the dog and I will be hitting the shoreline soon swimming and scouting for lures, so I'll thank you in advance for donating to my collection :).

Last visit to the Doc he insisted I not play with anything sharp so there will be, no hooks.

Fished (drifting) yesterday to test out a new fish finder that I mounted on the pontoon boat. I had to create a transducer mount out of aluminum angle that would mount to one of the rings on the back of the pontoon.  The transducer mount didn't fall apart or off the boat, so it was a success. :)

Caught a few perch and bluegill.

My buddy just upgraded all of his sonar units to the latest and greatest Lowrance and Minkota with side imaging and auto stow and an aquavu camera, and gave me his old Lowrance LCX112C unit. It works well, but is getting interference from a Vexilar Sonar phone unit.

Can't complain since I got it for free. :) It's good to have friends who don't have kids to put through school. :)
