bill, i did see an amish guy at the fish cleaning station in the ohio cabin area cleaning fish from a cooler and saw two more carrying a 'heavy' cooler at the pa. cabins.  somebody was catching something somewhere.

yep the pa blue army lol   boy do they pound our waters lol

Heavy cooler ? Must be packed with cold beer like mine !

How does one tell Pa. Amish from Ohio Amish on Pymy ? Seems to me the black buggies are Ohio Mennonites , the tan browns are Pa. Amish but that's just my observation.

Okay. So much for that.
I crappie fished the Jamestown area friday morning. Found a good spot and it only took me an hour and a half to put my twenty fish limit in the cooler. Was done around 8:30. put the boat back on the trailer a little after nine. DONE. Didn't even have time to drink my second cup of coffee. Three triple headers and a couple doubles and your almost at the limit. I hope the guys that travel more than an hour each way can stay at least a few days or it really isn't worth their time. No walleye bite to help fill the cooler and all.

Ok... ok.... I'll work on the slapstick but till I get it right, it's just gonna suck to be you guyz.

Chauncy, as usual a good read, congrats on your catching.

Unfortunately with a small limit it bites to catch em fast and furious.

Get it "it bites to catch em" ........ ummm, sorry. 😒

Re: PYMATUNING FISHING REPORT 2017/06/10 21:12:22 (permalink)
Today I was thinking between, Pymatuning and Shenango in a place called Kidds Mill Park at Reynolds. The thinking part was wondering where the heck is this bike trail that is suppose to be part of the old Erie Canal? Better yet, where is the idiot(s) who post the information on the internet calling a overgrown impassable opening in the brush, a scenic path? Good Grief!!!

Well it wasn't a total waste of time as we did enjoy seeing the covered bridge and all the graffiti painted inside, by the local morons.

Did get to go for a ride on South River Road for a short distance before returning to the park. Must say I was shown some very nice respect by the locals as they waved and shared the road with a old stranger pedaling his asz through the area. At least I think it was intended as a wave.

Anyways, should anyone be planning a walk or pedaling from Kidds Mills to Hamburg via a scenic and historic "tow path" of the Erie Canal I would strongly suggest, forget that chyt!

Till next time... Don't forget to "like me".

If you start in Hamburg it's a lot nicer trail. The horse traffic has it pretty muddy though! It's alot easier in the fall than this time of year!

I'm surprised you didn't peddle to Carini's for lunch from there !

Sharpsville , Pa. Lower Shenango River. The old lock is still visible, as are parts of the canal from Erie to Pittsburgh along the old route. Walked some of that near Kidd's Mills years ago duck hunting , not much left after a 150 years later.

Emitch thanks for the headsup. So what you're saying is, they "wasn't" saying I was number 1?

Dave, we had hoped to hit Hamburg from muup river. You say the Hamburg trail is used by horses.... well go figure. Bad enough I gotta pull boat and trailer through horse apples on paved roads and now, I gotta pedal my asz through it too. Good Grief!

JM2, I believe that is the Erie Canal Tow Path Through Way. Too darned many toll booths and I don't have EZ Pass. 😋

Captain, we were upstream and the wind was outta the south. Rest assured had I caught the slightest whiff of Carini's cooking, there would be a clean clear tow path from the covered bridge down to Hamburg. (no pun intended)

Funny you mention Carini's though. After arriving home, we were talking about riding a area today where we could end the trip with a Lasagna dinner. Carini's is closed today.... dam it!😡

Another gorgeous day today guyz. Tight lines if fishin is on your itinerary .

Weekend Report: one catfish, one crappie from the boat on Saturday, and a few small perch from the dock. The big perch seemed to have moved. On Sunday, my wife caught a very angry snapping turtle in the foot. I distracted him by putting a stick in his mouth and removed the hook with pliers. He swam off without so much as a "Thank you."

Enjoyed the report Roy keep em coming and better luck next time.

Did okay at Pymy Sunday. Had plans to keep ten crappies over eleven inches and I did. Also planned to keep ten big gills and ended up keeping seventeen that were eight or close to it. Off the water by eleven thirty.

Fished pymy most of the day yesterday, actually caught a walleye...was only 12" but at least I know they are still in the lake. Like everyone else I wish I knew exactly what is going on with them this year. Never had this much trouble catching them. Did catch plenty of crappie for the table and perch and a few catfish. Wind was pretty good and the water was stained more than normal.

So now all our local lakes are Pan fish lakes now ? No Walleye around to speak of being caught in any numbers anymore. Not even small ones ? Well, one we know of ! (ATTE1 )

The Pa. Inland Walleye Program is a joke and a complete failure !

Shenango is even worse than Pymy for Walleye numbers . Didn't use to be like that years ago.....wonder what's changed over the years ?

This program is nothing more than a major cutback in NW Pa. Walleye stocking !

Brock, from what I'm hearing, even the crappie fishing is slowing down greatly. Didn't believe it so I made three trips out in the last week. First day I pulled a limit in under two hours. Few days later, second trip. Basically same area of the lake but had to fish more than my usual brushpiles. Put ten keepers in the box but that was all I wanted to keep. Third day, yesterday, a friend from Ohio wanted some crappies for his neighbors. We struggled to put ten keepers in the box. I fished ten to fifteen of my spots marked on my gps trying to find him some. Used over twelve different baits, style and size. Didn't want to fish in eighty degree weather so we did some bluegill fishing until ten thirty and left with nine crappies, one perch, and seventeen big gills. Stopped at Rickters on the way home and he said he wasn't surprised that even I couldn't put a limit together in the last few days. When this heat dies down some, I'll try to find them again. I haven't tried night fishing for them in a very long time but may have to do so to catch them. So it may not be just walleyes.

The decrease in walleye everywhere seems to coincide with the arrival of alewives and shad.  Logic would say more bait fish is good, but if that bait fish out competes the fry for plankton then that could be the problem.

Chauncy, if your struggling on Crappie I know it's tuff ! You are the Crappie King of all these local lakes without a doubt ! You pay your dues and put the time in and it pays off....most times...lol
Your a seasoned angler like me , so when we notice things are on a downfall.... something isn't right. I'm not into Crappie fishing for many years now so I don't know, but I do my share of local Walleye chasing .

Pymy was the biggest let down I've seen in years. Spring Walleye were just none existent trip after trip. We tried every thing we have learned over years of fishing and it just didn't click this year. We fish about 80% at night, sometimes late night , and have several areas we try, areas that have produced fish year after year , and all were empty of Walleye action.

When you line 5 guys up on shore and are all casting good stick baits that work great on Walleye and fish 3 hours steady and not one bump all night...something ain't right !

I understand with fishing there are no guarantees, but I've learned persistence pays off 99% of the time ....this year is the 1% it didn't work.

On another note.....I have yet to see any Shad schools on Shenango this year yet. I'm talking those big pods of baby Shad (2"-3") up on the surface......none ! Strange ????

Did see lots of Shad in Pymy feeder Creeks....tons !

Was up waaaayyy before the crack of dawn to give it a shot with walter today. Fished normally productive spots from 3:30- 8:30 with nothing but cats and a few small perch to show. Definitely an off year. Oh well, the dog and I enjoyed a beautiful morning. Will be out pounding the gills with my dad elsewhere tomorrow.

Finally managed to find a few eyes between yesterday afternoon and early this morning. Only kept one, but boated almost a dozen. Lots of 15" fish that went back to grow a little. Was a beautiful morning until a boat with some Dutchmen at the helm pulled up within 15ft of me. Almost asked them if they just wanted to fish out of my boat 😒

The Dutch that where were near us this past Saturday were mostly pulling worm harnesses. Two younger guys were headed in around 9:30-10 said they had 7 walleyes in the box.
