Took vacation this week, so I decided to give it a try again late last night. Picked up 4 more short ones and one for the freezer. Going to try to dodge the thunderstorms this afternoon and see if I can't pick up a few more.

The ones I've been getting have been up shallow in the weeds drifting crawlers. Not huge fish that I've kept, but nice sized eaters 17- 19".

125 feet of line and not yards sounds more realistic.

According to the Precision trolling app, 125 feet of line let out will get you 14-15 feet deep.

I don't often troll for Walleye but when I do, I prefer using lead core at 1.5 mph where each color will get you down approx. 5'.

Lets see, 125 yards equals 12.5 colors which should get you down 60 (+/ -) feet.

Yep, plenty deep enough.......

Disclaimer; not all leadcores are alike, troll responsibly. Also, use of lead products has been shown to cause brain damage.

What... Wait!!!

Looch I do have a beaver pond but what fish do get in there get eaten by the stupid Geese.

Hey, maybe I could stock Shad in there, they'll proliferate so the Geese will over gorge themselves and explode!!! Brilliant!!

Got out again this afternoon/ evening for a few hours. Moved around some today after the initial spot didn't produce anything. 7 shorties and lost the only legal one I had on at the boat trying to net it.

psu_fish
The Dutch that where were near us this past Saturday were mostly pulling worm harnesses. Two younger guys were headed in around 9:30-10 said they had 7 walleyes in the box.

The wrong Dutchmen must be fishing near me. Haven't seen them slamming fish by any means. I might have to give up drift fishing and start trolling.

Will hopefully be out again tomorrow evening if it's not pouring. Think the dog has had enough fishing for a few days, so I might have to give this trolling thing a try while I leave her home. Got my checklist...

1- buy a bigger reel
2- find the Amish that are trolling
3- drop a hot and tot 125 yards out

...got it :)

Good luck to those who get out this weekend

Didn't get out till later in the afternoon today. Numerous boats were coming in as I was headed out into the pounding wind. Set up shop, landed a nice 20" eye right off the bat and thought it was gonna be the day. 5 shorties after that, then the wind died back and the cats and perch took over. Did keep 2 nice size perch out of the bunch though. Storm moved in late and I headed out.

For you guys that like the cats, if I was searching for aggressive eater size fish I'd probably starting the 14-17 fow range 😉

Pretty quiet on the pymy board lately. Was out the past 2 afternoons. Fished 12- 17 fow. 2 eyes made the trip home, and lots of shorties to fill in the downtime. One of these days ill be able to take home more than 1 fish per day, but it's good to know there is lots of sub legal fish waiting for another year. The sailboats were out having fun today. Counted over 2 dozen of them in a pack on the south end. Tight lines everyone!

Out on the south end Sunday morning with a friend from out of the area. We dodged boats and kayaks for a little over three hours and managed to put ten crappies and eight keeper size gills in the cooler. It was a madhouse out there but that's to be expected this time of year. Fishfry later today.

Had the pleasure of doing an on the water interview and photoshoot with Darl Black, a nationally known sportswriter from our area, for an article for Crappienow magazine, thursday morning. Showed him some techniques and new baits that have been producing for me this season. Managed to catch around twenty fish in two hours. Four different species too. The article may not come out until next season. Had a fun time putting it together with him.

Chauncy that is super cool. Congratulations and be sure to let us know when the story hits the stands.

I had the pleasure of meeting Darryl one day on Wilhelm.

I was Bass fishing along the West side of the causeway when I nailed a Musky.

Unknown to me at the time, Darryl was fishing from a canoe along the south bank.

I have one of the slides Darryl took that day, along with his letter of permission to have pictures made of which a 8 x 10, of me holding the fish, (along with the letter and slide) still hangs on my wall.

If my memory serves me right, that was around 30 years ago.

Rick is killin em on Shenango. I talk with him and Julie almost every time I go there. Haven't been on Shenango since mid may tho. The skiers come out too early to enjoy fishing there for me. They're out at 7:30 nowadays. Bump that. I'll travel the extra fifteen minutes and fish Squito or Jamestown area.

After being out and about, and now recovering from attendance to a wedding and reception party yesterday, I decided it may be in my best interest to just lay low. So I thought I would do a little research, of which could be accomplished, from a reclined position.

Not having visited a popular body of water in the past few weeks I thought perhaps I would go "straight to the horses mouth" and see how the fishing has been. Amazing, the information I found in a in-depth report by the very people responsible for overseeing and protecting such a wonderful heritage in Penn's Woods.

Without further ado I present you with that report.

Posted July 5 2017 on the PBFC fishing report for NW Pennsylvania Wilds.

My buddy Tim and I fished the south end for panfish Sunday. Six different spots and we had our two limits of keeper crappies. Decided to do a little bluegill fishing and found some good size ones a bit deeper than the beds we fished last month. Kept a dozen eight inchers. We fished deep for the crappies. All were taken in fourteen to seventeen foot and the gills were taken in six. All were caught on plastics from Bobby Garland baits and a new company this year, to me, pour house custom baits.

Just curious wonder when the Fish Commish will release their 2017 Spring reports on the netting numbers for both Pymy and Shenango ? I was told the nets were full of Walleye at Pymy ( so they say ) ,but it would be nice to see some numbers as compared to other years . Shenango had nets in up near Parkers Landing this Spring also. What was in them ?

Here it is July and still no numbers posted seems it shouldn't take that long to post a report from early Spring !!!!

Chauncy tell Rick I said hello and toss a few Stripers back for me to catch. I don't do Facebook so tell him to drop back in here at FE once in awhile.
