They put nets in every Spring at Pymy, take surveys of species and sizes but don't report info till who knows when. This year they netted on Shenango Lake this Spring also, and still no report yet ! Why does it take over 4 months or longer to get an update on fish data in our local lakes!
What's so secret ? Why so slow ? Incompetence at it's finest ..... State Government !

Just got my registration for my new vehicle only took 12 weeks !....lol

For the same reason that hunters are required to file their report cards within a few days of a deer kill, thereby proving most of the data (save for the statistically insignificant numbers from late archery and traditional muzzleloader) by the end of December, but the reports don't come out until April or later.

Still the normal number of carp at the spillway for this time of year? My boys have been asking for a trip up there before school starts to catch some hoovers.

  Dave,
Seems to be 'bout the same but larger in avg. sz. Welcome to stop by, only 10 min. from there. Geese startin' to hit fields in the hood.

It's difficult to match up all the registrations for the boats & tailors  Purdy much north for now with all the work that needs done. Defiantly good for the soul.

The Seagulls were plentiful a few weeks ago & the Geese were startin' to cause havoc earlier this week. Fields out back & across the street were plowed 'bout three weeks ago & planted last week. Shot over 50 hogs between this yr. & last in the yard. The Vultures r eatin' good to say the least

Don't know how I'll feel or look drivin' mup in a suv with a dozen waterfowl mounts, heck one ov the Geese has a 5' wing span

Bill, we struggled to get a limit of crappies in the cooler but we did manage too. Fished a lot of spots to get them. Most we got in one spot was six keepers out of ten caught. Guess it's time to head to Erie for some perch fishing. Maybe get together and hit the Edward John one day.

They are indeed a great bait, but Lord, don't take them to another water. I think the commission says what comes out of one water could be an invasive species in another. Personally, I thought crayfish were crayfish.

Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Caught our first keeper walleye and 5 eater size catfish yesterday morning south of the causeway drifting night crawlers in 18 to 20 feet of water. Caught them all between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM and they were fried in Shorelunch and Panko by 2:00 PM.
Great lunch.
Also attended D-Day Conneaut on Saturday which I hadn't heard of prior to this weekend. It is the largest D-Day Reenactment in the work with 1600 volunteer, who play soldiers and civilians from USA, England, Canada, France and Germany. Complete with real tanks, armored vehicles and jeeps fire blank rounds, and duck boats carrying soldiers into the beach. It was amazing.

Did you fry up those cats and what's your take as compared to the Walleye?

BTDT:
Yes the catfish was as good as  the walleye.

My wife is still making fun of me, because when I saw that I had a walleye on the line I started yelling "Net, Net, Net!" loud enough for everyone on the lake to hear me.   It was barely hooked but I didn't know it until I got the fish into the boat.

HAA HA, Roy good for you. At least you can hook em and get emm to the net.

Glad to hear you found the cats tasty. Now if you excuse me, I must go and cry over the catfish, I've released.😳

The  catfish are more difficult to clean and don't like dying (who does) and make a mess of me while cleaning them.
I fillet them like I do anything else then skin them. Seems like as soon as you stick them with a knife they lock their pectoral and dorsal fin spines in the out position, which make it difficult to lay them on their side on the cleaning table.

On those catfish you just take a pair of wire cutters and cut those fins then they lay down just fine to fillet

YouTube has videos using a electric knife to fillet. I'm too cheap to spend the money for a battery operated and would electrocute myself with a 120 volt knife.

Gonna give it a shot if I ever get back to fishing. Notice I said fishing not catching?

ummm..... the filleting not the electrocuting!!!

I have spoken with a number of fisherman at Pym, three gentlemen from ohio have consistently put walleye in the livewell all season.  They have some extremely high end electronics, viewed the fish firsthand.  Someone knows the pattern.

Sky I concur with exception.

I know a father son team that catches Walleye year round like some guys catch panfish.

Your absolutely right when saying its about knowing the pattern. These two guys certainly have the pattern and can be seen fishing, within the area of two football fields, anytime during the year.

The exception, they too notice the difference with the fishing. Catching is a bit leaner so far, this summer.

Now my fishing prediction for the next six months. With the passing of the Solar Eclipse today, I predict I will not be fishing anymore then before the Solar Eclipse.

Must go now, stress from Solar Eclipse Hype continues to be overwhelming and I hear a nap calling my name.

I bleed catfish out just like i do walleyes. Clip them and throw them in the livewell. Leave the plug out and add water as needed. After half an hour, take them out and put them on ice with the rest of the fish. Much easier to fillet and the meat is whiter.
