I do love to eat Crappie, but never fished any lakes this past year.
For me, once I started fishing river currents, I just never cared that much for lake fishing again.

I killed the first rainbow trout I caught this year(ever). It was July and I didn't know that they get oxygen starved and die realy easily that time of year. Tried to revive it and it seemed o.k., then went belly up.

Around 20 trout that was bleeding when caught
12 or so Catfish
All other fish released, no need to post the numbers.
All fish consumed by my Family and myself except for the one filleted stealhead left in the freezer which will disappear this Sunday.

15 stockies around the first week of trout season..including a PALOINO...OR GOLDEN RAINBOW TROUT...
1 channel cat we cooked over open fire...

Trapping season at best is 3 months(90 days)..You are using a steelhead a day trapping??? You running 200 traps??
To me that is a total waste of a good fish....

cp13 I chunk them in 5 gallon buckets cover with water,and put them in the sun for about 30 days. I use the fish oil as a lure. I do use a few for buried bait sets. Here are a few from last week.

The intent of the post was not meant to judge anyone's catching, killing or releasing of fish.
If I am correct our flag is still red, white and blue and if you purchase a fishing license you can keep as many fish as you **** please, within the confines of the fishing regulations.
Purists and elitists, please do not tell another man what he can do/not do with his LEGALLY caught fish.

Wish I had my own spring fed lake, like Joe owns. I'm thinkin about gettin one built so I could stock trout to grow up to be/look like pike & let kids fish it.

Yes they are.
Actually, was in meathunting fantasy land during last years ice season.
Had two five gallons buckets filled with Crappies, Trout, and Catfish.
(No laws were broken for those who are cringing)
We hit Arthur early and filled one with Crappies and the Catfish,
Got lunch, and then punched a five man ticket of trout at the Manor.
The Crappies were huge. Had to put a lid on the bucket to keep them from jumping out.
Dinner for the next week or so was awesome.
My better half was very happy. She made me a happy boy as well.

hey cp if you're referring to me just to clarify i dont own the lake i speak of in wv. i refer to it as my lake because my brother and i own 2 lots on the lake. its up high about 2800 feet and is about 150 acres. i feel like its mine though as i go up every week from april to october and there is only ever 1-4 boats fishing it! ive blabbed on and on before about the bass, perch, and crappie. unbelievable. wish i could ice fish it but the whole spring thing is no good for the ice. everything in there gets giant. bass and perch are mongoloids. good luck with owning a lake though. you get trout the size of pike you're on to something.

Suggest you try the Instant Steelhead recipe in the recipes on this site.
Has to be fresh steelhead though. I've tried several recipes, and was pleasantly surprised at the results from this recipe. Almost as good as perch, and better than some perch I've had in restaraunts.

Seemed like every time that I packed a cooler, the bite was off?
My fish kill for this year...
5-6 Bluefish
3-4 trout (opening day - smoked on camp fire, yummy)
app. 100 - gizzard shad - bait
app. 30 - alewives - bait (got hit in the mouth with a dead one...)
app. 10 - bluegills - bait
2-3 - bluegills gut hooked at a picinic (too small to keep - stopped fishing)
a bunch of minnows for bait too.
Hoping for some better perch/crappie success this year.

A couple of gallons of spots, croakers and pearch that ended-up as shark and crab bait.
5 gallons of crabs and the three gallons my daughter and I ate were excellent.
About a dozen king fish, whiting, that were breaded, fried eaten that night. Very tasty.
3 chrome cohos, eggs were cured and used for kings. The fillets were perfect.
2 or 3 ripe kings that either made it to the mulch pile, way to black to eat or give away or were milked and released. Those were from tribs that have no natural repro.
