Hmm...

5 stockies on opening day...
1 Steelhead

All of the above fish were forwarded on to my mother's place...

Other than a few salmonoids, the fish of PA were released to fight again another day.  Luckily for them I'm more of saltwater fish consumer. 
 
Now if the state started stocking Tuna and Mako, that'd increase my kill rate 10 fold...  Although I'd hate to run into a Mako casting spoons at Godfrey

T.B. this debate always goes on in fall/winter - so add 5,000 more what's the point - I respect the right to keep/release whatever your pleasure as long as the law is followed. The fishery has grown and prospered regardless of the # harvested. Even if the # was more, I have seen no decline in the # of fish to be had. Size maybe but #'s no. Of course maybe I just can't catch the 10-14 lbers any more.  Now 10 years from now if there"s no fish in the creeks I'll be the first to say I was wrong, but I don't think so.  Dave

From the random sampling it seems C & R is very much a part of our fishing habits.

You made my point.  wouldn't it be nice to catch 10-14 lbers regulary?  I know I caught more 10 lbers 10-15 years ago.  I'm sure that people walking around with 3 20" fish on their stringer has something to do with that.  Not sure how you can witness that and not agree that it would be better if those were released to go grow up?

After reading those totals, I thought WOW...someone kept 90 steelhead.

Thats 180 filets at a pound or two each...365 days in a year... do you eat anything but caught fish, and are you growing a second head???

Tippy not every fish caught is for personal consumption.  I personally have a huge superbowl party each year where we clean out the freezer with a huge walleye and perch fry...
 
I keep maybe 3 steelhead a year from the lake and they are always given away...
 
I love taking people fishing and getting them fish for their winter months too...

TB, point taken... my point was, these fish will survive the masses. That being said, you're right, it was nice years ago to get bigger steel. But I don't think reducing the limit is the way to go. Oh sheet, I vowed to never get in a debate like this when I first signed up and here I go 4 years later doing it. I got it!!! Stock 10+ lbers! It's a no win situation. It will get worse we all know that, look at the # of people on the streams compared to 7-8 years ago before all the publicity. Oh, & the screen name, I can thank my brother for that (mentioned in a long ago post about screen names) Don't know what I was thinking about when I did that. too late to change now.    Dave

Really out of the few fish I've kept, I've only eaten 2 of the steelies... one's still in the freezer, the other went to a neighbor. The trout went to my fiance's family.

wow, lots of people kept fish.  In my entire fishing career, Ive killed 2 steelheads for my GFs uncle. he ate them

I think I might have kept 4 or 5 steelhead this year for a friend...  Other than that I don't think I kept anything.

I was talking with the one dude at Poor Richards west last sunday, he said they have filleted around 7,000 steelhead so far this season.

I've kept 2 steelhead. My dad and i tried to cook them with lemon pepper and onions, we ate one. The dog got the other.

I kept about 5 crappie when i was left at camp for a day, It was a situation where i had NOTHING to eat, so I caught some and cooked them over a fire, best I've ever eaten..

3 Bluegill for bait.

i wish they were stocking bluefish in the tribs.  another fish that people either love or hate.  truly one of the best fish right off the beach.

This looks to me like a can of worm opening post, but here goes anyway...
 
Walleye: Erie/Mosquito Lake - Lost count...most came from guess where?
Steelhead: 8 since fall, but released well over 150<--not a brag just felt compelled for the purists.
Crappie: Moraine, Shenango, Mosquito - 75 or so combined 
Redfish: 8 - Bonita Springs Fla.
Speckled Trout: 2
Red Snapper: 4
Muskies: 0000000

I very rarely keep fish.  I did take one King this year because I did not want tippy to have to drag one out of the SR alone.
