Kev: Leaving the 8th, fish the 10th through 15th (last day of the season.)The river finally has some water and a late, fresh run of fish. Looking like the conditions will be as good as it can get for the water. Bob: I have never tried the Ally Cascade, although I have seen the pattern and might tie a couple.... This will be my last trip for a few years..daughter is a freshman at The New School in NYC. Can't afford both Atlantics and her education..so I find cheap trips for a few years. All good stuff. Eric

ORIGINAL: Plum Bob Dano, what are you using for tubing? .......... Cones, plated hour glass eyes, bead chain, all work well for front weighting tube flies. Bob, I'm using plastic and hybrid from HMH. THat's what the fly shop had on the rack. I now realize I need to weight the head. That was my mistake. The flies I tied on copper tracked fine. I'll give you a call.

Ahhh, now you all are talking my style. I had to open a new account (but I've never really been a dedicated poster, sorry) so this is my first post. Here's some of my swingers. Classic Dees tied on tubes. The Balmoral is a vicious pattern for steelies. The line up: left to right. Top Row: Akroyd, Balmoral and Dr. Forbes. Row 2: Dodger, Dunt and Gardener. Row 3: Killer, Gledwing and Glentana. Row 4: Inchgarth, Jock O'Dee and Redwing. Tight Lines!

Just an HMH adapter. No special vise. Thanks, man! Here's another one from the dark recesses of my brain.

Nice ties jfdIII. I'd post some of my J Scotts, Highlanders, S Doctors, etc. tied as tubes but my wife won't let me use her camera. Your flies, swinger's, and KJH's are the nicest 2 hand/swing ties I've seen on the board. For now, I'll stick with zonkers, buggers, scandi style, all tubes, mostly cone heads. Good movement in a fly is what matters most to me. Rabbit, marabou, arctic fox tied on plastic, head weighted, gives me what I want. Flies aren't as pleasing to the eye but fish well. Post some more, enjoy pics of quality flies.

jfdIII: I have a renzetti tube vise, but I have a hard time stopping my tubes from spinning on the mandrel. Sometimes I end up re-tightening the mandrel 3 times during a fly. maybe its just a matter of learning how to adapt my tying to the tube vise. Just wondered what you tied on, if I find someone who uses a renzetti maybe they can give me some tips. Nice! for some reason I see that and think "Silver Hilton Spey Tube". I Like it!

Nice stuff jfd! Picked up some new materials the other night and have not really had the time to mess with it yet. Just had to take a few minutes to play a little...

Swinger, it is black cashmere goat with a couple strands of flash mixed in with a few strands of flash. Bucktail underwing and some schlapen for a spread out body/collar. Can't get over how long the goat hair is! Stuff should move like crazy. The other stuff I got was some temple dog and I used it for the tail on the other fly. Can't wait to tie up some simple scandi style wings with that stuff!

Let me rephrase. I mixed in some sparse strands of ice wing into the goat and a couple strands of krystal flash before tying in the goat.

Finally got my lazy asz to the vice. Usually new materials get put on quicker but time hasnt been that available. tag of slv tinsel tail wht fluoro fibre body uv lavender ice dub body hackle wht schlap under wing wht arctic fox krystal flash collar grey schlap mid wng grey siver fox over wng olive secret goat JC cheeks cone I like it. The fluoro fiber is nice stuff. Very fine and puts off a very nice shine. Sorry about the goat thing. My supplier is very limited in what they have and thier supplier has just retired so things may be slim for some time on it. The sheen on it is just sick.

Yum on that tie, Swinger! That has to be a killer emerald imitation. I've got some goat, well sort of, and it's not in short supply. I do all my own dying on it and have a pretty good source. I'm going to have to post twice because I don't know how to put more than one photo in a post. But, anyways, here's some o' the stash.

Here's some of my grey dye job. It's pretty shiny in its own right. It also has some ridiculous movement in the water. I'll try and tie some tubes up so you can get the feel of it. If you'd like to try some (Or anyone else for that matter), send me a pm and I'll hook it up.

Here's a quick Black Doctor I just whipped up. The blue and the black in the wing is the kid hair. I tried to take it with a flash to show the sheen. The red and yellow is traditional AF. The thing about the kid hair is that it is so soft, you have to have some stiffer fibers underneath so the wing doesn't completely collapse in the current. Hook: Owner size 6 octopus Tube: 1.5" Plastic Thread: Red Uni 6/0 Butt: Red Berlin wool Rib: Flat embossed gold tinself (medium) Body: Black Acrylic Yarn Hackle: Black Throat: Black rooster coque and guinea fowl Wing: Pearl krystal flash with Yellow A. fox, Blue kid hair, Red A.Fox and Black kid hair with Peacock over all Cheeks: Jungle****br> Head: Red [image] [/image]

One idea could be to switch the blue out for a darker green to get a shiner appearance on the red white blue tube. Just an idea. They all look simple and effective.

Thanks HC I'll try that out when I get more colors of that material. I do well on a very similiar pattern but I wanted to convert it to a tube with the new materials I recently picked up. Trial and error lol!

I just wanted to give this thread a bump and maybe motivate some people round here. I am just as guilty for not posting flies as you but looky here. Measured in at 29 3/4" I would give her 10 lbs. I lost a solid 12 pounder before this fish. Fun none the less. Enjoy the fish porn. Tube in the mouth Poor money shot. But I wanted to do it quick.

Like the rabbit strips. Here's a good one: hook- streamer, down eye 3xl size 6 or 8 wing-rabbit, white body- Senyo lazer dub, fl red flash- 6 strands pearl fire fly flashabou collar- fl yellow schlappen head- fire orange If you tie the collar in front of the strip wing it will reduce the size of the head resulting in a neater looking fly, 8/0 thread also helps keep the size of the head down. All your flies are nice, I have a thing for zonker style flies, also buggers. Maximum movement is what I like in a fly.
