Experimenting with a small-ish wet that I can drift or swing. This one is too complicated to really produce in numbers, but I'm getting there...

Hopefully by October, I'll have this down to a 3-5 (durable) material fly.

Also trying to tie a few Dee style with the split turkey wings:

You two inspired me to clean trout materials off the bench and dig out the stuff for this fall. I always find it interesting how when you go from one extreme to the other ... how it takes several ties to get the rust off. Thanks for postin and for the inspiration.

I have been tying for alaska & I am ready to go back to tying little flies, those big ones take to much time & material. a size 22 or 24 midge or trico is much faster

    Nice stuff.
You've come a long way in a short time.

Dave, same here on the little stuff. Still cranking out 22-24-26 spinners. I gotta quit giving those things away to everyone I meet. I never have any in my box when I need em.
I still have to do 14&16 downwings for the August caddis season.
Then Steely patterns for Labor Day (hopefully)

    Kev,
I did up some tubes for my NY guys. But thats about it. I like your flies. But throw a rib on them for me. Gives it a tad of flash and also holds it together a bit better. The Skam trip is off for me. Trading the pass in for some more musky time. But the Catt trip will still be on. Hope to see you in NY. As always you are welcome on my waters. Take care.

Casting is on my mind as well. I have to get them out. Plum Bob hooked up with my line guy and is getting a custom scandi for his. I'm sure he'll be out casting soon. You getting the new skagit master?

Fly tying styles for steelhead patterns have evolved over the last few decades in two interesting directions: The first towards sparser, more stream-lined versions of the bulkier traditional wet flies ties of the past, and the second towards larger, high profile flies that have been made possible by innovations like the tube fly and the stinger type of tie.  These larger flies are tied with methods that allow the use of smaller hooks that don't damage fish and that allow the fly to cast and swim much better.  Chanel Sandals  Ed Hardy Clothing    Hermes Handbags

I'll keep this thread going. No secret I love orange. Here's a tube I got hopes for.

Silver tag. A stretchy orange floss like material for 3/5 of the body with a silver rib. Orange ice dub for remaining 2/5. Couque for hackle. JC eyes with a rabbit wing. Big cone to sink.
