I had a doe under my stand.  She was actually upwind of my scent bombs.  She didn't show much interest.  While I'm drawing, I'm thinking "aim low" because of the steep angle and closeness of the deer.  Well, I shot, she jumped and then walked away casually, as tho nothing happened.  I got down to find my arrow mostly clean and some white hairs around it.  I followed the trail she took and found some blood spots which quickly petered out.  I believe that my broadhead just shaved the bottom of her chest and scratched her.  By the way she acted and the look of her trail, I'm sure she lived, only slightly worse for the wear.  While I was disappointed, it was encouraging to actually see deer in the woods, as I hadn't seen any from the stand at this location so far this year.

It was a pretty morning to be out, saw a wonderful sunrise, three other deer, and a flock of 14 turkies fly down from the roost.  Even with my lousy shot, it was the best morning I've had this year.

Sorry to hear about your shot.  Atleast your morning was good one.  Mine, well, probably the worst ever.  My walk from the truck to the particular stand I hunted this morning was about 300-400yrds long.  90% of the walk is on an old loggin/4wheeler trail.  I must have spooked atleast 8-10deer during that walk.  Never have I spooked that many deer before.  And to make matters worse, the last 2 I spooked were within 30 yrds of the stand.  One of the "many" I spooked had to have been a buck, as I walked by where they were standing, I could smell he was in rut, it stunk pretty bad.  That was it.  Got on stand at 5:45 and got down at 10.  Nothing seen.  Heard a group of 5 rabbit hunters from 8:15 til I left.  Atleast they were having fun.

I didn't see anything this morning either.  I may have stirred them up friday, walking around and such, making sure I didn't get that doe.  Funny, I used a ladder stand about 50 yards above where I shot from friday and when it got light I could see that the doe I shot at had walked within about 5 yards of the stand I was in saturday.  I realized friday that she'd pased the ladder pretty close, but not that close.

Redneck, maybe you should try to get in earlier.

Ive noticed with tinks its brown. I dont know if its spoiled or if they get feces in the urine or what. All the other high end brands of lures Ive ever used are yellow. I dont think im a believer in tinks.

hunted this morning freshened mock scrape with special golden estrus at 7:30 had 7 pt coming down trail towards it about 50 yards away (was feeding showed no intrest) then all of a sudden started looking to his left and took of in that direction than a world record raccoon came out about 5 ft from were he was standing. other than those couple minutes of excitement all i saw were treerats and chipmonks
then on my way out of the woods at 9:45 jumped 5 bucks bedded down together on the edge of the field walk through all looked like 4s and 6s other than 1 that was a spike and one looked like it might of been big enough to be a small eight
all bodies looked small for bucks my guess would be they were only 1.5 years old especially the spike and 4 pt that just looked at me for about 2 min

Didn't tinks get caught using estrous from cows instead of deer years ago? Maybe i'm crazy, but I remember reading something about it.....

700 had 2 deer walking around in fog grunted and they ran in turned out to be 2 4 points stoped10 yards to my left then walked 10 yards from special golden estrus scent wick didn't even look at it then at 800 saw a big bodied deer walking through the fog about 50 yards out couldn't tell if it had horns but from the way it was walking i would guess it did, grunted at it but didn't even brake stride i could only see good about 20-30 yards because it was so foggy

I hunted a stand yesterday, was in by 1:30 in the afternoon. Used a drag rag of Code Blue estrous on the way in. Wouldnt you know it, the **** deer came off the mountain, hit the drag and went the wrong way. As i walked out i was greeted with SNEEEEEF, SNEEEF, didnt know what I was cause it never saw me, but it didnt like it.

date:Nov 6
temp:45 deg @ dawn  55-60 @ noon
wind: light/calm
sky: clear

Went out this morning to ANOTHER new spot. Hung up my last wick of Code Blue estrous (gotta get new stuff now) and up about 20ft on a hillside near some bottom brushland/marshland. Lots of acorns falling and saw more crabapples on the ground than I noticed in scouting. 9:30 had a buck charging hard into my stand and went right up to the wick within 5 yards of it. Only a 3 point. Spent the rest of the day with my head on a swivel from the 6 squirrels running around the hillside. Couple doe too. WHOOOHOOO!

Any suggestions about the guy in Madison,PA that sells fresh doe urine from a deer farm? Anyone try his product yet or hear anything about it?

Whats the company name? I just bought 8 ounces of doe in heat for $22, if it works, cant beat that considering code blue comes in one ounce bottles for $10.

Thanks JLH, it is Goodman's deer farm in New Stanton(it is the Madison exit off of I-70). He said all of it was less than 2 weeks old when sold.

Called him and he ran out of the doe in heat lure quickly it was 2.5 oz for $20. He had some of the pre-rut left in 2.5 oz for $10 but I had to go pick it up, 35-40 minute drive and it wasn't the heat stuff. I ended up buying Smokey's doe in heat out of WV. $15 for 2 oz is steep for over the counter but I just don't have the time to run a hour or more to get pee with everything else I got going on.

That is a good list for next year or early rifle if rut hangs on that long, which I have witnessed happening once or twice. Nothing like the real thing without the preservatives.

I was lookn around a good bit, hard to decide a lot of private farms out there have caught on. I started using code blue because it worked well and people didnt use it. Then it caught on and now you better have a live doe vagina in your stand if you want something to work. Theyve smelled it all.

Hunted in Greene county today.  Anyone who was out knows that conditions were not ideal today.  I had one doe come to my stand right as it started getting light and another small doe passed about 30 yards below me at 9:30.  I gave up about noon, it was too hot and they were not moving.  One encouraging thing was that this spot showed a lot of activity and this is a place that got crushed by EHD last year (which is why I didn't try for either doe).  So, it looks like the area is recovering.  I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to hunt there next week, because I'm there by invitation, but I can hope.

Oh, the other thing was, I saw more squirrels today than maybe I ever have.  Sometimes there were as many as three in the same tree.  There wasn't five minutes that I didn't as least hear one thrashing around.  And chipmunks were out in force as well.

Maybe the squirrels were in rut too!

Ya. All of the deer I've been seeing have their winter coats. Starting tomorrow the chill will be back and I will be buried somewhere in the swamps........

I was also out this morning, rain died down just as shooting light came in and it seemed like it would be a good morning for movement.  Put a scent wick out with some doe in heat and had a spike walk past it, paying little or no attention.  At about 745 some moron came walking through the middle of the bedding area right up to my stand to ask me if i had permission to be on the property and if i had seen anything.  I told him that i did have permission and that no i hadn't and will not see anything now that he had scared them all out of the small patch of woods/thicket in  Allegheny county.  I thanked him for ruining one of my last hunts of archery and was back home eating breakfast by 8:15.

Had some movement tonight...Big doe came through with a small buck trailing her..Bout 10 minutes later a nice shooter(decent 8 point) came through at 50 yrds.Didn't come that last 20 yrds...He was on a mission.  He responded to no calls or my scent trail..
