Yeah, there is a certain logic to that.  I've only made a few mock scrapes in my career and I cant say they drew any reaction either.  But, we'll see.

Try one now, or spice one up that deer already created. Ive found they do most scraping on trails rather then in the woods. They like to walk old roads or 4 wheeler trails.

I agree, jeremy.  I have seen several good scrapes on trails this season.

Sorry about the late post fellas.

Sat. the 8th.  set up at 1:00 after having a highly unproductive hunt in the morning, on another property.  1:20 here comes an 11pt, about 18-20inch inside.  I had a scent wick out with wild life reasearch #1 select estrus on it at 15 yrds.  The buck checked a thicket like I figured a buck would and then I called him to 25 yrds.  He was facing me head on.  After standing there for 5 minutes I believe the wind shifted and he didnt like something.  He turned and bounded off 20 yrds and stopped.  After another couple mins. he turned and walked away like nothing ever happened.  That was it.  The scent didnt work or for some reason he didnt smell it.  I dont know, but he was the only buck this year that I would definatly call a "shooter".

Jeremy,
Sorry I totally forgot to post my results up on here. It wouldn't have been of much help anyway but I didn't see anything on the previous dates that I put out the tinks 69. The entire last week though I went out everyday but saturday and saw at least 2 bucks a day with the best day being on Tuesday when I saw 5. All were legal the last week but I couldn't get any close enough to seal the deal except for a large 9 who busted me when I reached for my bow. Was suprised at my results with the tinks as in past years I had a much better response to it. A neighbor of mine used doe urine from a doe he had taken 2 weeks ago. He had 3 different bucks follow his scent trail using her urine. This was all in the last week of the season though. Hope this helps :-)

I think anytime from halloween on you should use estrous. Up until that its really a gamble and a lot of guys think any scent will scare a big mature whitetail. I dont know, maybe next season Ill have to try no scents and see what the deal is. I know I cant resist during the PRE rut.

I dont know what I did wrong but tonight I went around a few of my areas and my god, i saw some MONSTERS! I have a feeling the second season is gonna be better then the first.

Also, Im planning to take my rifle the first day and one other day after that. Any of the other time I have to hunt during rifle season is going to be with my bow

Maybe the rut is picking up.  The weather is a lot better for it this week, than it was last.
