Called the PGC and they said even if I was 1/4 mile away from a person was baiting in their backyard, it could be considered bait hunting if I knew about it and was hunting a trail that led to that backyard.

Yea they would arrest your****in a heartbeat and then you would have to prove that you didn't know he was feeding them.    Bear hunter was arrested over 1/2 mile from bait and the fine stuck.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Started my part tonight. Ran a scent line of Tinks 69 about 150 yds down the back side of a 30 acre corn field. I have been seeing alot of scrapes in the area..

Got in the tree about 5pm. got out about 7pm.
Never saw a deer. Will try the same stand in the morning..

made a mock scrape tonight with tinks 69 first time on stand and not see a single deer which i'm thinken is partly because some guy was on the ground stalking deer and he ended up getting a doe which i thought was pretty impressive with a bow

RE: Who wants to help with an experiment? 2008/10/15 23:28:53 (permalink)
last friday morning had a homemade heated scent can out with code blue d buckurine in it. Hade it up off the ground about 3 ft. Had several does and fawns scent checking it.. Then about 8 50 am had a beautiful 13pt come in and stuck his nose right in it knocked it over he had to have gotten hot wax on his beak.....lol I took the shot juked the shaft 20 mins later i shot a 8 pt that did the same thing. I think early part of season you should only use d buck urnie cause it ****es off the d buck in the area. Or use some doe pee thats it. I would only use it till the middle of next week. Then start trying some doc's 2 deer one bottle with a estrous bleat can. I have been using a doe bleat with a series of 2 bleats then wait 30 sec the one more bleat. followed by a new soft grunts of a young buck seemed to do the trick. I have taken 9 buck 9 years in a row now. I hunt all white oak flats but i wouldn't call till you see the deer within sight. Seems once you see them you get their attention it's on. Specially buck i seen 8 different bucks since the first day. And everone was called in with a doe bleat and a young buck grunt. Everyone came in with the stiff leg posture and ears laid back. even a couple small 4's and six's. But the biggest thing is keep your scent 100% scent free. I was using H.S scent clothes wash and H.S scent fresh earth waffers a 3 pack on my cloths and still spraying myself down with fresh earth scent killer. I got winded one time out of hunting monday through friday 2 times a day and seeing deer everythime. But i would also wash my clothes everday from a morning hunt come home and wash for the eveing hunt same for morning. If they don't know your their they be in your back pocket. Just so you guys know too the 13 pt wasn't anything impressive decent rack about 17 inch spread maybe 8 inch g 2's the 8 pt i shot was only 14 1/2 wide with 6 1/2 g 2's but then again i am not a horn hunter i am a archery hunter... Good luck too all hope every has success. The deer i shot and hunt was in 2D armstrong county.

RE: Who wants to help with an experiment? 2008/10/16 10:22:16 (permalink)
Was out this morning.
58 degrees with light showers.
In stand from 7am-9am.
Laid a scent trail with Tink's 69 along the same corn field as last night.
No deer crossed the scent trail.
I saw 6 doe though at about 830am.

Got to put the stalk on a little fifi when I climbed down.

I walked up on her at about 30 yrds and she ran one way and mama and the other fifi went the other.
The deer was so small it was really hard to see her in the goldenrod at 25yrds. I crouched down and got out my doe can. Two blats and the fifi starts coming towards me.
At about 10 yrds all I can see are these 2 little ears above the goldenrod.
One more step and she comes out in my path at 8 yrds.
I draw and wait and wait and wait.. Wind swirled and she busted me.

Ran 25 yrds and the doe can stopped her again. This time I just stood up and tried to get drawn on her but she busted me and ran off..Little fifi didn't even know she was 3 ft from getting the big hammer..Mabee tomorrow..

Great evening with lots of action. Got into my spot about 4pm. Up about 25 ft and within 30 minutes a doe and her fawn were feeding on the powerline 100 yds away. Saw a total of 12 deer, 3 of which were bucks. One spike, one 6 point and one forkhorn 4 pt all together. They came in the last 15 minutes of light and were downwind of the old wick I had left with estrous scent on it. Even through the rain overnight, they were still curious and got to within 20 yds of me. Had to get down for dwindling light and ended up spooking them. Still haven't seen a legal buck yet.

Will keep trying it for any wanderers who might come into the area with all these doe around.

Date: 10/16/08
Location: Inside Corner / Clover Field - 4d/2g border
Weather: Windy / Cool / Overcast
Scent: Kirshners Roam
Hours: 2pm -> Dark

Details:
Setup on a well used trail. Expected deer to show up around dark. Placed out scent bomb. Someone decided to walk across the field into the woods at 6:30pm in plain clothing. No clue what would have happened, no deer seen at all.

I think its only fair that if someone doesnt kill a deer using this method, only people who furnished a report will be included in the drawing. Just putting your name in and not trying isnt fair to the guys who really gave it a honest try.

Finally able to get out this morning.  Special golden estrus.  Made mock scrape, with estrus on a wick layin in the middle of it.  Saw 20 turkey and that was it. On stand at 6:15, left at 9:30.  Will give it a shot tomorrow morning and evening.  Good luck.  Hunted on the edge of thick pine trees, that connect a large swamp to a smaller swamp.  2 decent fresh rubs though.

Checked the scrapes that I put the Tink's 69 in yesterday. They were freshly tore up. So at least it didn't spook them....Gonna try there again Sat. morning..

Sweet.... at least we're seeing something here, as i take it anyhow. They are interested in scrapes.

Stopped and got another bottle of estrus: Tinks 69 Gel (I wont use the same bottle for more then 3 days(week and a half). Day four i dump it in a scrape)

Oh, and if anyone caught that thread i posted about smoking your clothes, well ive been seeing a lot of people talkn about it in other forums. I smoked a set tonight(i have 3 sets of camo), if i get busted ill let ya know.

Also grabbed myself a new grunt : Mad Calls Buck Growl

See what they think about that.

10-17- hunted 3:00 until about 7.  Watched a draw near the house that I've never archery hunted before, but have seen deer in during spring gobbler.  I climbed a tree opposite of where I believe the deer bed (based on winter scouting trips to the area).  I put out my scent bombs, with tinks 69.  I dont think they were effective because the wind was actually coming from the opposite side of the draw (favoring me, but blowing the scent back towards where I came from).  About 4:45, a neighbor and his buddy came down the gas line 30 yards behind me.  The buddy got off and walked into the woods below and upwind of me and set up somewhere within about 100 yards of me.  Needless to say, game over.  I'll give it hell again tomorrow, probably in a different location.

Hunted tuesday and friday over mock scrapes that I have made, both get active scrape and docs scrape invader mixed with the 24/7 powder, bucks are tearin the scrapes up but it must be all night activity.  Saw nothing those two days.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

RE: Who wants to help with an experiment? 2008/10/18 01:13:49 (permalink)
Area: 2B
Temp: 50 deg and falling
Wind: N/NE @ 5-10 variable towards my hanging wick
Conditions: overcast

Got up and went out early for me(2 pm) since I work the nightshift and was up 35 ft because the prevailing wind sent my scent right over my Code Blue doe in estrous wick I had just refreshed. At 3pm, a 6 point buck was feeding down the powerline towards me and got to 125 yds before making a beeline for an upper pond(this is the normal route for most deer I've seen in the area but there are no trees that I can use in that area at all since they are all small or have branches along the powerline). I grunted multiple times to him and he just glanced in my direction. He fed his way to within 85 yds of me and then bedded down within sight. When he got up, he took up the opposite direction and fed his way back down the powerline. The wind was shifting enough for me to know that he wasn't interested in the wick. I think I'm going to buy some mock scrape and make one. I saw on another website that people have been having luck at this if it doesn't have any estrous scent in it. Maybe just a territorial thing right now, I haven't noticed any rubs either. Maybe these cold nights will kick them into gear.

PS Don't forget any of you guys going out for the next week you have to wear 250 inches of blaze orange walking to your stand, then on stand you must display 100 inches of wrap around the tree or on your body. There will be a few muzzleloader and small game hunters in the woods. Stay safe and good luck.

Jeremy, i have the Mad calls buck roar.  I used the H.S. true talker and liked it, but I think the buck roar is better.  It seems when I use the call in the woods, it seems louder without having to blow harder.  Grunted a little buck in last year and he came to about 20 yards.  Overall I like the call a little better than the true talker.

Its a great sounding call, very deep. After watching that video that came with it, pretty convinced they do roar.

Hunted this evening on the edge of a good bedding area.  Put scent on wick at 20 yards.  6:20 saw small buck.  Never came down wind of the wick so he didnt even know it was there.  6:37 saw 3 doe to my right.  Didnt really care about the scent being there although the one was smelling the air for a few seconds.  Hey jeremy, I"ll stay with it.

Question.  Have any of you guys tried tinks power scrape yet?  Have made 2 mock scrapes with it and one gets hit here and there, the other one is torn up, about twice the size now compared to when I made it.

Was out this morning until about 10.  Same place as tuesday.  Froze my****off.  I went into town for lunch and when I came back, I decided to just walk around to find a nice spot to sit for the evening.  While I was walking around, I jumped a nice buck.  I wound up sitting about 50 yards from where I spent the morning.  I had the scent bombs out both times, but the only deer I saw was that buck I kicked up.  In the evening sit, I even threw out a few estrous bleets with the can.  Nothing.   I'll keep trying the scents.  I think the problem is not about the scents as much as the low number of deer in the areas I have access to.

I never saw a deer Sat. morning. They were early getting back to their bedding area and I spooked them on my way in. Was only out for 2 hours...26 degrees here... Got a little chilly in the tree..

Hunted a different spot in the evening over a mock scrape(Tink's Buck Lure, Active Scrape). The deer have a 4 foot square area tore up where my scrape dripper is... Saw no deer..Small game hunters didn't help..Sounded like WW3 when the goose hunters fired up at daybreak....

The scrapes with the Tink's 69 in it were freshly hit again...I freshened them up might as well finish out the bottle...

I'll stick with it too -- I was in NYC this weekend since Friday so I didn't get to hunt unfortunately.  Gonna try some scrapes though as it seems it's been at least getting some good activity even though most seems to be at night. Good luck guys.

didnt have any deer show interest in the special golden estrous every time i used it... i had a spike smell the trail i laid down but just kept feeding through, on the upside it didnt seem to spook deer.
