I would fish with a guide in DSR if I wanted to do well & had never been there.
Much better to go there with a guide (anywhere in the river for that matter) to learn some water and likely holding areas than to waste all of your short time on the water searching. To not hire a guide up there when you're a beginner is asking for a beating, unless you have friends with true knowledge of the fishery.
I hired Gottum for a day last fall & it was worth every cent. I don't need any help with my fishing, but I was shown places to go where people are sparse, but the fish aren't.
Just sayin'.
Just sayin'.

I'm the original JETSTER until I was banned, the first pioneer that ever conquered the Oswego river successfully with a jet boat.Im sure I will forever be in the History of fishing for that!Who needs a Drift boat when a jet is what ya need?

I still haven't jet boated the Salmon river though, thats next on my to do list.Put in at the estuary and blast up through the DSR up to Altmar during prime salmon season.

They're up to their old games--but can't keep the forum up long enough for a discussion.Must have probs paying the bill--as I believe it's the same host as a bigger site.As for these early kings---y'all can have em.With the water temps up,they give you maybe 1 good run then go belly up.Then you have to crank in a log

The funny thing is I have trouble hooking the earlest arriving kings. I have always thought it was to warm for them to be at peak aggression (other than a few right at the top of estuaries).  Once they have been in the rivers for a few hours they seem to act like the kings that have been in for days or weeks later on. An occasional swipe if something big and gaudy enough gets near enough that they don't have to spend much energy in an attempt to crush it.

I've never been up earlier then the 1st week of Oct.. I wish the place was closer to me, but you can't have everything.
I informed my wife to be ready & to not spend it all as I'll be up the last week of Sept. unless my **** back keeps up with the spasms.

Spiker sometimes uses Rapealas in the estuary but spends most of his effort on trolling for suckers. They bite more often for him than salmon do.

Jetboat Charters are coming soon on the Salmon River,it will be on big bilboards all over town.Driftboats will be dinasours within 2 years, they wont even be able to sell them in a garage sales. My motto will be "Why drift when you can shift"!

We will be trolling upstream not downstream, they wont ever see the lure coming.
