Had one gobbler and two hens walk almost into our decoy set at 7am. They all hung up about 60 yards out and wouldn't come any closer. He gobbled his head off for 15 mins. that was the only action of the day. I'll try him again Monday morning. All in all a good day to be out in Penn's woods again.

Congrats arby! Thats awesome. I roosted two of them on friday, snuck within 100 yards at 4 a.m. only to have 2 guys sneak between me and the birds. Needless to say those turkeys wont be gobblin any more. Two shots rang out so close my ears were ringin. Gonna try again in the a.m.

Heard 5 different gobblers off the roost within 150 yards of us... 3 of which I think were in the same tree or very close within 75 yards of our set up.  They flew down and were pretty quiet until a hen came through our decoys and after 5 minutes went towards the toms.  Got three to come in to our right with no shot option at 50 yards and they passed with some hens, then we counted 5 longbeards coming through and strutting.  The birds all came on our right side that had little shooting lanes to the birds.  At one point we had 4 gobblers all together sounding off at 40 yards.  They just wouldn't come to our left side -- they had 9 hens with them.  Watched them for 1 hour and 45 minutes strutting around within 100 yards down to 40.  Amazing morning but nothing to show for it... we left them alone and will be back later this week.

Had 2 birds gobbling on the roost about 75-100 yds away at first light and another 3 birds about 300 yds away the other direction.  They gobbled for about a half hour hard and long.  Then the 2 close ones shut up.  About a half hour later someone snuck in on them and shot them. One shot.  So we left to go get the others birds that were further away.  Walked to where we thought they were and they were out in a field.  Thought we scared them away as they worked away from us but we made one call once they were out of sight and all of a sudden two long beards come runnin and I mean runnin through this filed right at us.  Only thing between us and them was a old wooden fence with multi floral rose all over it.  Well the birds got within about 25 feet and would not come through the fence.  Then one was just to curious and stuck his head just a little far through the fence and wham dead gobbler on the ground.  10 inch beard and 1 1/8 inch spurs.  weighed out at 21 lbs.  And to think the other one with him was even bigger.

Walked in this morning to 5 birds gobbling on the limb, had hens with them. When they flew down, some went right, some went left, none came my way.

Such a pretty morning I decided to hang in there. At 10:45 one started gobbling away, called him up to 30 yds and let him walk. Only had about an 8 inch beard and I'm not ready to quit hunting yet.

Gonna get in good and tight to the older birds in the morning, rain soaked leaves should allow for that, gonna have to have a 10 incher or better for me to pull the trigger.

I just love to hunt them.......

got in the field at about 5:20 set up the blind and the pretty boy and pretty girl had about 10-15 gobblers gobbling before light. as soon as they flew down they didnt make another sound. the field i was hunting had tall grass and was hard to see them. they came out about 60 yards to the left of me there were about 6 gobblers in full strut. did a little calling and got no answer. all of a sudden i didnt see them anymore. then about 3 mintes later saw there ehads bobbing through the grass. one got about 45 yards away and i took him. not a monster but my first turkey so im pretty pumped. had 5 1/2 inch beard and about 3/4 inch spurs. was a fun but short hunt. shot the bird at 6:45 am i dont know how to add pics

My plan to slip in tight this morning worked. I set up within 80 yards of where I believed the birds to be roosted. They were tight lipped on the limb, 2 birds gobbled about 10 times total, saw them fly down at 6:15. Once they hit the ground it was pretty quiest for about 15 minutes then one gobbled just over the hill from my set. I clucked and purred and 3 minutes later the bird appeared on the logging road. I just couldn't make out the bird, saw it's white and red head. Strangley, it hit the logging road, looked at the decoy and turned and walked away. I hang tight and a short time later 2 gobble from just over the hill again. The get wound up and are really gobbling now so I pour the calling to them briefly then go completey silent. They snuck in and appeared at 40 yds (2 of them). I again couldn't see a beard on either, it was just so overcast and dark this morning. Whelp, they didn't like something and walked off. Now I'm thinking somethings up with me or my decoy. I check both, everything looks ok?
At 6:55 they start gobbling again in same spot just over hill. I again call them up, this time to about 45 yards, now there is 3. I can clearly see their heads and necks but can't see beards. The first 2 turn and walk to the left behind a little brushpile. The third walks in front of it, HA HA PAYDIRT, I can now see it's beard a swinging. I put the bead on it's head and touch her off, down he goes. The other 2 kind of jumped up and just stood there for a little while then hurridly walked off. I walk down to find the bird still flopping a little. Look at my watch 7:01 AM.
Bird had a 10 5/8" beard, 1 inch spurs. Not too shabby, I was pleased with it.
    Now it's time to fish!

I'm gettin lazy in my old age(28), lol!  Didn't make it into the woods yesterday till about 10:00.  Passed up on three gobblers with about 5 or 6 inch beards within the first ten minutes and then had about an hour conversation with a bunch of jakes and a couple of the big boys but with no luck.  Oh well, the season is long and the birds are fired up!  I wish everyone could find a spot like I have.  The world would be a happier place, at least April and May.lol.  I know I'm not alone when I say no matter how many you have under your belt, there's nothing like a close gobble on a spring morning to get your heart pumping.

Finished my season tuesday morning at 6:28. Roosted four big boys monday night and they had 10 hens with them.. I watched them in a field for an hour before dark. Got in there at 4:00a.m. and set up within 80 yards of them. Perfect Morning and the birds cooperated even with all those hens. Bird had 9 3/4 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. Great season. Still 3 left for next year.Maybe then ill crack the 10 inch mark. Ive shot 14 gobblers in 16 years and the biggest one had a 9 7/8 inch beard. Just cant hit that 10 inch mark. Good luck guys and be safe.

Saturday I figured Id introduce my girlfriend to the turkey woods, my god... unless she explictly asks to go again that was the last time. From 5am till 9 she didnt sit still for a second, thank god we were in the blind. 9am moved to a different location. Got two talking as she fell asleep in the blind. 1045 she woke up and was ready to go home, god knows where the birds were. I like that blind but carrying all that stuff in the woods really sucked. Thank god Ill be alone this saturday.

Took a personal day from work on Friday morning and got back into my spot where they were roosted on opening day... it was basically the same thing.  Birds gobbling everywhere and strutting when they flew down... just out of range.  Most of the birds moved off but there was a monster that strutted for over an hour out 75 yards away.  I actually got a pic of him after the other birds had moved off.

About ten minutes after this picture, a group of about 8 or 9 longbeards all moved through and a decent one gave me a shot so I took it.  I wasn't trying to be picky for my first gobbler but he ended out to just barely have a 10" beard and 1" long spurs.  He was only 16 pounds though.

Nice bird. Those big ones will drive a hunter nuts. Been hunting an old smart one for the past week, had him at forty yds. but opted to wait for the next day to shoot him so I could get it on video. Needless to say he didnt show his face.

My dad closed the deal last week.  Got a twenty six, yes twenty six pounder with a ten and a half inch beard in Beaver county.  I know the weight is right because I brought the calibrated weights home from work because I didn't believe him.  It wasn't an old bird either.  It only had about an inch long spurs.  Beardwise, there are nicer ones down there, but I don't think I'll ever beat the weight of that one.  I think someone was feeding it steroids.  lol!

Try the State Game Lands,to your SE,I found birds there before season,
any Wineries,in your area, may also hold Toms.
I've seen birds plenty of times,in the feilds(in the Gap)out your front door. Birds are still pretty well Hen-ed up,get out
early,be at your spot by 5:30am,and wait for the action,be
the first hen of the day,so to say. This morning I saw,6 hens
    1 Jake,& 1 Long-Beard,all runnin together,off in the distance,
I could only pinch a couple gobbels out of them each, and when they got the real thing with-em,they tend to be more
intrested in sight than sound, ecspecially with last weeks pressure, from hunters.
I will give no specfic locations here............but feel free to
PM me,the more I tell the more it cost............lol !

Congrats to all you sucessful hunters!!! Great stories and pictures! I've hunted 9 out of the 11 days this year so far this year and have seen and heard turkeys all but one day. It's been a ton of fun so far but I just can't find that hot gobbler yet. Hopefully this will be the week. Good luck you guys and please hunt safely.

Jeremy, shoot me an e-mail I may be able to help you out. I know some pretty good areas in Centre Co.
