Fished Tionesta Lake on Sunday. Water was still 65 degrees and had pea soup color like Moraine on the surface. We boated six small mouths. Still pretty warm water for Oct.

Burned a vaca day and took the kayak out to the Allegheny for probably the last time this year. Water was warm enough to wet wade comfortably all day, and also super low and super clear. Lots of floating eel grass but still fishable.
I did alright. Not great numbers considering the amount of time I spent on the water but when I hooked up they were good sized. I got three 18s and a bunch of smaller ones.
I mostly got them on the ned rigged 5” Zman jerk shads. Got bit a couple times on a chatterbait too. I don’t throw them very often, so that was kind of an experiment.
Also got one of the 18s on the jumbo 7” jerk shad right around dusk. Those things look super cool rigged on a weighted hook. They really glide through the water with a nice natural, erratic action, and they didn’t seem to pick up any grass or get snagged on rocks. They’re just so big that I imagine they won’t get bit too often. I’m definitely gonna work them into the rotation more often.

Spent 7 hours on Pool 4 out of Freeport today. One good eyeball, 21", two dink walleyes, 7 dinky smallmouths, and a 12" & a 14" sauger. First trip out since May 6th, the walleye opener.

Waded Arthur twice in the last few weeks. First outing was artificial only with a good mixed bag of panfish and LM but nothing great in the 2 hrs. Dumped the bucket of Perch/Gills out before heading home. Had a very bad headache trying to focus on hits, line and tangles Made it back out a couple days ago and the Perch were stacked in the area with plenty of LM. Caught one 27" Channel and left a couple hours before the Crappie would have turned on but I had enough. Kept around 35 Perch and released around 50-60. First times fishing since April and my legs could tell when I made it home. Had laser surgery on my left eye the day before last outing and the other one gets done in a little over a week. I was surprised how much less stress was on them getting the pressure down to 12-14 lbs compared to 34-37 lbs two weeks prior.

I went out on the Allegheny on Friday. Barely got bit all day. Only landed two small ones. I was still on them about two weeks ago when they were more in transition, but once they move to wherever they go in the fall, I can no longer find them. Deep water wintering holes is my guess but I didn’t easily have any access to water like that where I was.
Might get out again, might not. My schedule gets crazy between now and the holidays, I can’t get out after work because it gets dark so early.

Was hiking Ohiopyle yesterday with the family. Went out to the mouth of Meadow Run and the little cove/pool just upstream had several what I assume were trout rolling and coming partially out of the water. We sat there and ate our lunches (no gear with us). There was a gentleman upstream casting into kind of that area but never saw him hook up. Did see a guy land a couple trout or small panfish downstream of the big falls on the main river but, we were on the overlooks and he was on the opposite side. Whatever he was catching, he was tossing back. Nice day to be out.

Went out Thursday from 4:00 -- 6:00 wading. One 18" Bass with a bum eye, around 20 Perch, two Crappie a Gill and one 34" Pike. Dumped the bucket of 10 Perch and 2 Crappie back in at the end. Did catch my biggest Perch ever so that was cool. When it got dark out had a hard time keeping track of the lite stick on the float with the stars reflecting on the lake's surface so called it quits. Two Beavers gave me tail wacks goodbye as I packed up. Should have had a extra pair of socks on. Jason, I hear they are very tasty from the reports of some Pan Fishers.

I’ve never had white bass, but have had white perch from the Chesapeake which are same family. Those are really good. I have watched videos of guys keeping them and say they are really good. I think they have a bloodline that needs trimmed and assume bleeding helps. I’ve caught plenty in the rivers and when warm, have a fishy smell. So bet what Chris is saying about cold water being better. Filleting a fish that smells is hard to get that out of your mind when eating, doesn’t matter if tastes excellent. At least for me. I’m sure not as good as walleye or yellow perch, but you can say that of most freshwater fish.

I've kept white bass caught while perching in Lake Erie. Kept some the last trip up I made about 5 years ago. The Amish told me not to freeze them but eat them as soon as possible. To me they tasted just fine. Wish we had some around Somerset County.

Well, Pymie has no shortage thas forsure. We caught them one after the other for 3 hours, jigging blades. I might have to string a couple up next time we go, just to try them. I know they have that same bloodline as a hybrid, and will have to be shaved off. Thanks for the responses.

38 to 39° today. Prolly the last trip up to Pymie for us. Lake was pretty much flat and the rain stayed away. Was pretty busy with boats. We killed another dozen eyes that were very healthy. We got into some Crappies also. 15 keepers but only 1 biggun. I'm thinking the last 7 or 8 years finally have taken its toll on those fish. I'm going to try and hit Moraine a couple times before I put it to bed.

Fished Canadaway, and Chautauqua creek Saturday. Streams were very low and clear, only thing biting were the small native trout in the Chautauqua creek.
I think I got new planer boards for Christmas, I'm thinking about burning a vacation day and testing them out at Arthur or Pymatuning before the end of the year.

Anyone getting out? Any open water on the local lakes? Itching to just get out, motor around and look at my electronics. Try to figure some things out when I know that I am probably not going to catch. Try to get a few more deeper water structure waypoints loaded. Long term forecast looks like a glimpse of spring. Which of course means actual spring won’t be here until April…. I think the same thing happened last year.
I was in FL a few weeks ago when it was crazy cold. It wasn’t all that warm down there and windy. Made it out one day for about 2-3 hours on a causeway in Tampa. Got one pin fish. Saw a nice red cruising, but couldn’t tempt him. My son and nephew each got a skunk.

I spent a few hours organizing my boat last weekend, I was very bored. A couple of guys on facebook said Arthur is open, didn't sound like anyone caught anything. I'm going to try to get out on the river before walleye goes out, I just need the river to drop another 2-3 feet.

Need to get measurements for a couple canoes at camp and in the back yard. Want to go to the park office on south shore or Fish Commission up Meadville for launch permits in the next week or so. Son is on the way to Columbus, Georgia right now. He bought out a estate of fishing tackle from Tom Mann's fishing buddy. Taking a ride to Arthur in a few minutes to get some fresh air. crappy

Don't say that the old school stuff don't work anymore. Remember the adage: "What's old is new". Somethin' the fish haven't seen in a long while will still trigger. It's supposed to be unseasonably warm this week, and one son and I may hit the river. The water is goin' down and the Buffalo Creek launch is still way high, but the water is turnin' green and should be ok by midweek. Hope the Merc will fire up and run OK. It's looking rather forlorn sittin' out there in the yard.

Still at full pool. Caught 6 Perch, one large fish bit my little jig hook in half, good fight though. Maggots or grubs probably would've been better than plastics. Slow bite for a hour and a half.

The kid and I beat up on some beat up steel in Ahia and Peeay yesterday. Nuttin fresh but still plenty around after the ice masher went through.
Saw some good panfish catches on the book of faces from Pymy last couple days.
Bout time to plan on stopping at Pymy for some night time eyes on my way home from catching steel on Conny and ‘Bula.

I am done donating my combo stamp money. When it was somewhat reasonable priced, I’d buy it and if I made it out, I’d have it. Figured funds would help stock and keep land from posting. I’m done with that now. Cast net permit is $25.97…. Might be done with that too. I don’t make it out at night like I used to. $26 to use maybe 1-2 times per year, to catch baitfish they haven’t stocked for 30+ years. I can get a few lures that will catch more fish and last me 10+ years. They seem to have a different cast net permit for a bunch of different waters now. Seriously have them for the Mon??? I can maybe understand the argument that people use them to catch bait then fish and keep the fish, so let’s charge $26. I’d have to imagine 95% or more fish caught in the Mon are C&R. I also imagine anyone buying a cast net permit now, is going to harvest fish they maybe wouldn’t have before.

We sat in the Armenastone box the Saturday vs Montreal. Great seats but we can only sit there for free. I would never pay what it costs. Btw cute kid. GO Pens!!

Yeah, My mother would get tickets for the PNB box at the Igloo. Whenever she would hand us the tickets before going in I'd say " lets scalp 'em and have a great time on the town" Crazy prices even back then. Most games I went to cost around $7.75 and I thought that was expensive. On the back of the $7.75 ticket stubs you could get a free meal at Burger King :) Son sold a Muskie lure not long ago for $275 and it wasn't even a antique. I'm way behind the times!!
