still tons of trout left in hereford and probably any of the other stocked lakes that have any depth to them.  Find water 15 feet or deeper and fish the bottom half of the water column.

Based on my stream experiences this year I'd say it's 50/50.  Some streams I fish that can support hold overs had fish that looked no larger than years past.  A few of them were larger, most were the same sizes. Other streams I fished had slightly larger fish than years past, but these streams don't support holdovers.  On all streams, there were the normal numbers of fish under 10". I'd still prefer that the efforts put forth to improve fishing were more directly focused on creating a better habitat for trout to reproduce naturally rather than stocking.  At least on the streams that would support it.

Amazingly, some trout are still hanging around streams too.  Stopped to catch (by line, not a seine) some chubs in Butler Co. for bass fishing with my 3 year old son yesterday.  Took a couple of garden worms with us, and surprise!  My son reels in a 13 inch rainbow.  Thought this stream was for sure dead by now with the temps and lack of rain.  Put on my polarized glasses and saw about 6 trout crusing this hole with the chubs.  When the cooler temps roll in in a few weeks and the fish can survive a fight, and I got that itch to go to erie but can't, I know I can entertain myself for a few hours.

i usually help stock some of local streams in the Nw Pa area each yr and i personaly had noticed alot of trout that were being stocked that were not or just barely legal in size!! infact at one stop we had 5-7 non legal sized trout out of about 80-100 that were to be put in that location! as as far as the rest of the fish i couldn't really see a major difference in average size than from other previous yrs??  Btw for those of you who hunt the PGC now stocks less pheasants and i really haven't noticed much size difference in the these birds than over previous yrs either lol! i guess if those organizations make such comments such as"we stock less but better quality" then i think they feel that the general public will be less upset with them  wondering about how they spent the publics hard earned money??? actually i personally don't have many gripes about the fish commision lol! ,but the PGA thats a who different story!

I'd say the ones I'm catching this year are pretty medium sized and normal compared to the ones I got last year

Even if they are the same size as previous years, a few of the last couple years aside, I think thats the sad point.
