Southern walleyes prefer spawning temperatures between 48°F and 50°F, while their Yankee cousins and Canadian counterparts favor temperatures between 44°F and 48°F. In the extreme Far North, if those ideal conditions don't arrive early enough, walleyes absorb their eggs and forego spawning. ~ www.in-fisherman.com/walleye/understanding-spring-walleye-migrations/

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, the walleye are, or soon will be, in a pre-spawn feeding frenzy.  In a couple of weeks it may be all over, except for the shoutin'......  at me for spot burning so please, keep this information a secrete.

Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you will feed him for a life time. ~Anne Isabella Thackeray Ritchie (1837–1919)~

Panfish were extremely active first thing this morning until the wind pushed me out. Brought home another decent batch for the fryer. Mostly bull gills today. There is definitly a lot of dead shad floating around and on the shoreline. I hear you guys on hoping the eye fishing is better this spring. Might get anxious and give it a shot some evening this week. Good luck!

Crappie, you still wading?  Anyone check out the north end recently?  Wondering if Linesville and the bays are still iced up?  Might be time to get the boat ready...

When do the crappie typically start spawning or turning on in the spring? Is the north or south end better? I'm fairly new to Pymatuning, I've fished it in the past but just started fishing it last year regularly. I see a lot of good info and experience on this forum, any feedback would be very helpful.

Knew I should've went earlier in the week before this cold front hit. Was out for an hour and a half this afternoon. No bites. Still lots of dead shad floating around and the lake is up a foot or so. I imagine the eagles are eating well.

Ohio Walleye Federation 2018 Tentative Schedule | Ohio
Says it still is tentative pending permits....Guess this will have to do for the bluecoats since the PLA isn't having a tourney this year.

I see the weigh-in sight is to be the New Bowers Launch.  Wouldn't the Linesville Causeway have been a much better sight??

Re: Pymatuning Lake 2018 2018/03/22 22:07:13 (permalink)
Perhaps I overstated....Gosh No!  Most of those guys would probably fish the south end of the lake anyhow and that would be a long haul back to Linesville if the wind kicked up.
But, yes, for strictly selfish reasons, I don't want another tournament out of Linesville.  As it is some Saturdays and Sundays there are three and four tourneys launching out of there.  Guys in there sleek bass rigs with matching suits and skeleton gaiters!  Oh My! I Long for the days when the 'North End" was spoken of in hushed tones in smoke filled back rooms of bait shops where you had to earn your bones to be called a north end fisherman.  (I wax poetic)  Not some fishery where guys come to "fill their boxes" in an hour and a half!

This was pre Pymatuning Lake.  Linesville was considered the onion capital of the U.S.!  Rich, I bet a lot of the guys not only didn't know that, but they probably never heard of the onion fields.  Just the old timers and locals  I could almost envision that high ground in the upper left as present day Harris Island!
