Palomino and the centerpin

While granted this is not the largest of Palominos out there it was a momentous occastion for me as it was my first on a centerpin outfit. Can say now that I have completed the Palomino trifacta with at least one on a spinning rod, flyrod and now centerpin outfit. Not the best of openers for numbers at a dozen landed but stayed on same hole all morning long..The fish was 19 1/2in long and between my girlfriend and myself we hit 2 nice rainbows in the 15-17 range.

SO MANY FISH SO LITTLE TIME.
WHY ARE ALL THE PLACES I HAVE YET 2 FISH SO FAR AWAY?

    chasinrainbows,

Tell your boy congrands for me..Let him know how very few ever get the chance to get one ever..With only 8,900 stocked this year (not counting club stockings). the odds are very slim many will get one..

Not to pick pepper out of fly **** but aren't they WV. golden rainbows. Palominos have pink eyes..

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

you are thinking albino trout as those are the ones with pink eyes..Pa used to call these fish palomino trout but now call them Golden Rainbow trout..Since I have been catching them since 1985 and they called them Palomino trout I still continue to call them that as do alot of other people..below is a link that states what I am saying..

I must say the eye's are huge on that trout. But big eye's is what stand's out on a pretty girl.

Nice fish, saw two on stringers here yesterday but they were both a pale gray color, not that pretty yellow. I saw one that about 10,000 guys walked right passed saturday, ahh the power of polorized glasses! I could see he was eating emergers, I threw every emerger setup under the sun at that fish, he wouldnt even look at it with 6x. I finally gave up and went back to catching the regular fish. I caught prob 40 in 10 hours. Nothing spectacular but they are definately bigger.

Thats a pretty palomino, egg...nice job!  The biggest palomino I ever caught was 20" at Herford Manor Lake when I was 18....It had the pink eyes.  We had a nice day Saturday, my daughter and I....caught 10 in the morning at Slippery Rock Creek.  Left at noon.  She had fun!

p.s. - I don't know about others, but I did not notice any bigger fish at the Slippery Rock or Herford.  And saw 40 to 50+ fish caught.  Nothing big.

I caught a palamino also, but it was only 10".  Had to be a sportman club's fish.  State doesn't stock them that small.

    Egg,
Beautiful fish.  Caught my first one many years ago.  Caught my latest last year but it was one of the "mutts" that they had for the last two years.  Best time I ever had was fishing Penns, Creek one day I had a 15" Brown, 13" Brookie, 17" Rainbow, 17" Palamino, and a 15" Albino (never caught one since)  all in the same day.  Best group I ever caught too.  Missed a big brown that would have been in the 20" range too.  But anyway, once again beautiful fish.

    Tom,
Got your voicemail, I knew you were calling to tell me about another "Paley" you got on opening day. I fished for two hours and landed 7, one nice bow in the 14-15" range. I found out later the hole I was fishing some out of state guy was comming in every morning for about two weeks before opening day and cleaning them out in the mornings. I saw guts at the creek when I got there in the AM, so I think somebody that saw him should've made a phone call. There are plenty of fish for the good fisherman, its a shame stuff like this still happens. Guys if you see someone snagging or poaching of any kind, don't be afraid to make a phone call, you do not have to confront them if you don't want to. Gert a licesne plate # and description and make a call...... If if goes unreported
this only hurts us as sportsmen.

I caught one about the same size today, on a spin rod.  The colors weren't as bright. They are even worse in the picture, crazy camera phone, some times it takes good pics, sometimes not.

    Al,

You can use flies on a centerpin set up....  I once had a fellow ask me why I had put monofilment on my fly reel  when I was out with the centerpin.  He kept asking what weight rod I was using and why I casted the rod in such a strange manner....

Caught another one today, smaller but brighter colors than the one yesterday. I guess my camera phone doesn't like the color yellow, because it just won't take a good picture of a palomino.

It looks like you are trying to stomp on them. I see you abuse your reel like I do mine.
