DB,
I was in there first week in August and they were coloring up then.  I expect the maples to be pretty red with the night time temps, there is a frost warning with a predicted low of 32 for tomorrow night.

I seriously considered doing Stony's or Chedmardo, and roving the river, but I need the solitude as well, and while there are always people  back in the Plains right after Labor Day, it is lot more quiet than I'll find in Salmonville, and the reports of late are pretty spotty, so it looks like slow Lake Clear trolling this week!  I'll get to the east end of the lake once there are steadier reports of those little fish that come in after the Salmon.

Well, salmon in late July and early august... would make sense brookie were coloring up

Little fish??? Oh yeah the littler fish can't wait for that myself. Already a few here and there. My son almost caught a one pounder the other day just hanging in a puddle with a slight current coming in to it. It had a huge bite mark on its tail... those kings sure as heck don't want any trouts eating their eggs

Was 70 - sunny/ clouds with a nice breeze all day. Great working weather but sadly no time to fish.
Things will get better and the hard water will come :)

Well, I did the Plains, survived the frost, avoided the coyotes and the bears, and caught trout. I went with six dozen crawlers and came home with 5 dozen, but I need to tie about a dozen muddlers.  I'll have photos as soon as I learn how to download them from the camera and post them here.  This was the trip when I saw what pond fishing with flies can be all about, the only way to get the fish to stop biting was to cast into a tree.  In 2.5 days of fishing (it took all of Thursday to get into the area and set up a comfortable camp, this getting old really socks!), I played with over 100 trout, some little 6 and 7 inchers, but mostly 9 to 12" chunks.  I killed only fish that were bleeding badly when landed and came out with 8 fish.  WOW, and it only took me 49 years of fishing this pond to figure out to drag a streamer behind the boat once in a while!

Weather man says 95 today. It was very muggy last night and required A/C
River temp on line is saying 67 @ 8am this morning.

I can almost smell the slimy salmon down here

Good news is it seems to be a 2 day event with temps dropping dramaticaly .
Heck highs in the low 60s here with nights in the low 40s.
Probably 5 degrees cooler on the Tug elevation.
The water temp shouldn't be a major issue.

Not there is anything wrong with smelly slimey salmons.

Two Bob often we get a one to two day delayed reaction in terms of water temp spikes this time of year. Just like labor day weekend release...They opened up the water and the temp rose drastically. The surface temp of the res heats up and its a trickle down effect. I agree with you that things should be fine. I'm eager to hear if those hoes ran as my father fished today. Also heard about hatchery Chinook getting caught in numbers out on the lake. Waiting to see what this low pressure system is gonna do in terms of fishing for the next few days

High heat and humidity will break this eve.   Just got done stacking a few cords in the basement as there are some nasty T storms out there right now.  Most are just to the south, but some boomers for sure.    Ice show is 10/4 here usually isn't that good , but gets you in the mood.
I really cannot get there yet either.  Too many irons in the fire.  Car needs all new brake lines in the garage,  about 6 more wagons of wood to bring in from the woods and yes I am still working on that closet I started last year...........
I start to feel better about fishing when the last piece of wood is stacked.

G bless Clint,
While I don't burn wood I do cut it for my son that does.. I like the work out and we (I) do cut 2-3 years ahead , 20 or so cords.. Didn't cut last season at all , really.. I still got about 6 cords here not counting whats at his house that he needs to get outta my yard..ugh..
Now , I did hump 5 tons of wood pellets (I burn) into my garage last weekend..
I'm ready to fish but just not feeling it..

Really hope you folks come down to my winter playground some weekend for a little Slimy Lake Trout on Ice.. You'll never be the same I can assure you of that..

I burn 15 to 17 face cords a year.  My dad helps out alot to keep busy.   I also have a guy that will cut the trees and buck them up in the woods for 10$ a cord so I just go pick it up. Between all of us we usually cut 50 or so cords and sell what I don't need.  Try to stay a year ahead.   I stack all mine in my basement and with the stove burning it gets over 90 degrees down there alot so it dries fast.   Hard work to say the least.
