Brook through my yard ( used to be the pasture ) is as dry as I have seen it in my 71 years- a mere little trickle.
Said a similar thing couple of years beck - not this bad though.

Not really what I wanted but at least the humidity tanked and the pigs are happy.
My grass and weeds are getting forest like. My neighbor mows his lawn every other day and twice on Sundays. I hate mowing and just stomp it all down working outside, lol.

Enjoy the nice weather folks, time to hit the chores before daylight fades oh so fast now

Thanks Jack, it's actually cool enough to play outside again. Doing finishing touches on smokehouse tonight . While I finally mow my lawn tomorrow, I'll do an all day smoke burn to season up the house.
T- minus 4 days for Christmas and Easter ( pogs). Hopefully next weekend the smokehouse will be cranking out production , be it geese, chickens or pigs.
The following weekend I'll be smoking with Willie Nelson and family.

Like I said, this month will be a blur. At least the weather is cooperative in temps

Yep. Calling for over six inches of rain in the next three days. The ground is already saturated and there will be flooding.

Geesh. Keep it outta my homestead.
Mowing the lawn was wet and clumpy. Wish I had a brush hog. Dug a few holes 3 feed deep to trellis my berries and the clay was wet.
Getting a lot done in this comfortable, seasonal weather but dang sure don't need rain to screw things up.

We hit a high of 62 degrees here in my little piece of Penn's Woods today (09/08). Took a little shopping trip before the actual monsoons arrive. Most everybody running around in jeans and hoodies today as compared to shorts and tee shirts yesterday (09/07).

What's up with that? This past spring when temps jumped from the 40s into the low sixty's everybody went from jeans and hoodies to wearing tees and shorts. I dunno.....

Be safe everyone and remember "Turn around, Don't drown".

Good Morning FishUSA nation.  What a difference in the weather the past two days with cooler temperatures and lower dew points.  I for one have been taking advantage of the situation in catching up on some much needed sleep.  Been having some really silly dreams too, like the one where the weather dudes are forecasting three days of heavy rain with totals to exceed 6 inches in some areas of Penn's Woods.  Ain't that a real knee slapper?

Well gotta run and go see what's happening in the field across the road.  Amish neighbors is doing what Amish neighbors do best.  Raising a barn or sumpthin.  This one looks to be a bit unusual,  as it's taking on the appearance of a biggggg boat.

Be safe, stay dry, good times and tight lines, to the fella's wishin they was fishin.

Nice and cool , is cool.
With the upcoming rain tonight we moved our slaughter up to this afternoon. Yup they are going to be hanging by 4pm.

Smokehouse:
Started a wood fire using oak. Had that baby cooking at 220 degrees in no time.
I'm all good to go 😎.
Gotta run as well, much to do

Sooooo I swing by the weather radar just to see what kinda conditions the conditions was in,  annnnnnd wished I hadn't.  UGH!!!

I been trying to get a rain fall measurement too, using my official unofficial dog dish rain gauges but I can't post no pics cause, my dogs keep drinking the results.  Stupid dogs!!

Well anyways, I'm hearing from one of the other boards, the fishes are startin to move up the criks but let's just keep that our little secrete.  Those guys, on that other board, seem pretty square so I don't think they would be 'blowing smoke' and I don't want them thinkin I'm spying or sumpthin.  Besides, yinz should all know, I don't spot burn.

Be well, tight lines, fish well, good times.

I gotta go...... all this rain makes me wanna pee.

I don't usually post pictures that might offended somebody . I'm glad we got our business done here today in nice late summer weather instead of a mud pit of rain tomorrow.

It was super easy. Took 30 mins from start to finish on both. Had a complete audience of wife, kids and grandkids.
Obviously something nobody here is afraid to do.
My only thing preventing me from process was outside temperature without a walk in cooler.. Turnaround will be Tuesday.
With pork, geese and chickens next weekend, anybody got coho to smoke ?
I hope it's a great run.
My rest will be farm aid sat and outlaw festival Sunday 22&23.
Love them Nelson's

I had a turkey this am with what seemed to be something wrong with is hip. It would not take weight and just flop around in a circles. It was beating itself up bad. 20minutes later it was in the freezer. I think it hurt itself come off the roost in the house. Not enough room to flap. Happened alt year too, but the bird recovered.our pig will not be ready until November or so.

The rain continues here. Over 6 inches so far with a forecast for another 1+ today. Lots of roads closed.

Flood stage for Little J is 8 feet and it is there now (fishable is 3 feet). It is expected to crest at 10+.

Yup, mud season is back. Certainly didn't need all this rain here. With anything normal of temps now, it won't dry out. So glad I got my chores done yesterday, woulda been a mess rest of the month.
Doing inside work this evening getting my processing station ready. Gonna be a lot of use the next 2 months.
Hopefully the weather cooperates this and every weekend for the smokehouse . Lots going in there , pork, geese and chickens so I need a 3 full solid days.

Ok Jack, now stop the rain dance, lol

I obviously don't pay much attention to the weather and take long range internet forecast with a grain of salt. This one I just looked at locally shows not much until last week of September. That'd be perfect for me 🤗

I too been watching Florence and as of yet, there's no definite location where the eye is to make landfall. But having seen the reports this morning I'm certain I now understand the science behind tracking these storms.

S'ghetty tracking, yep S'ghetty tracking. Once every few hours (give or take a few hours) a different meteroligist throws a new strand of S'ghetty at the weather map, where it sticks, projecting the track of a hurricane.... Brilliant!!!

Fox Meteroligist, Janice Dean "TheWeatherMachine" says the next forecast toss is due at 11:00 AM. Stay Tuned.

If Florence makes landfall, and it certainly looks like it will, what path will the remnants take once inland.  This storm reminds me of hurricane Hugo (1989) and the tremendous amount of rain it dumped on the Lake Ontario region.  I fished the Oz for a few days after that storm rolled through and it was treacherous to say the least.  Stay safe everyone.

STAY TUNED---Now they say it may slow down and turn south.
Bet that drops even more rain but might mitigate some inland wind damage ???
My youngest- a lineman- from Ct will be getting his marching orders in the AM, already know they are going.

R3 KUDOS to your youngest and all the other lineman and crews who are now preparing, to leave their families, to assist those people now in harms way from Florence.

Convoys of utility company's, from many states, are now forming and will soon be seen traveling the interstates highways, enroute to staging areas from where they will be dispatched as needed.

Having sailed the concrete oceans and asphalt seas I remember seeing convoy after convoy of utility companies, from as far away as Illinois, heading to the East Coast to assist after the big storms.

Once again, KUDOS to these men and woman.

Florence downgraded to a category 2 hurricane. But strong winds and high surge, still expected as the storm continues turning South.
