I could only find the one study also Doc. Seems to be the one most are quoting. But that is a little deceiving. It states that 80% of landowners are against Sunday hunting and that is false by itself. There is a percentage of that 80% who are for some form of limited Sunday hunting.

True, some would no doubt post for just NO SUNDAY HUNTING, but I'm still not sure we would want even 10% - 20% of the others closing their land completely... I'm pretty sure that at some point "down the road" Sunday hunting will be legal, I think some of those in my generation will have to lose control of the land before that happens, from what I am told and heard from locals.. let's face it... it's the older folks that do not want to be even a little disturbed on Sundays... I'm not sure going to grandma's and grandpa's on Sunday for dinner and a family visit is such a big thing for Sundays any more ???? It sure was when I was growing up... and that's the tradition that I think has to end before more will okay Sunday hunting..

Doc, I remember that stuff too. I also remember when all stores were closed on Sunday and most local Mom and Pops closed at noon on Wednesday. There were no alcohol sales on Sunday either. Restuarants closed at 8 PM. Most stores closed by 6 PM. But you know, life has changed (and I am not saying it is for the better). Stores are not only open on Sunday, but some are open 24/7. So are some fast food drive throughs. Beer distributors are open for a limited amount of hours on Sunday as are some PA State Stores. Restuarants are open until 11 PM most nights. You can rent movies 24/7 out of a vending machine. For the most part Blue Laws are dead -- having gave way to the reaility that life is no longer a Monday - Friday 9 to 5 (or whatever shift) work week with the rest of a person's time as free to do whatever they want. Unfortunately for those that actually live in the 21st century, hunting is not yet a part of that change.
The poster formally known as Duncsdad Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Finally heard from my local State Representative, Sam Smith, speaker of the house.. here's part of what he wrote.. Although legislation has not been introduced in the current session that would allow Sunday Hunting, it most likely will be in the future. However, please know that I oppose Sunday hunting and will vote no if the proposal comes before the house.

I expect a renewed push as well. There are quite of few members of our general assembly that the PFB has a firm grip on. This time though, there will be other players who happen to carry very big sticks. Much of this in the short term will be determined during the next BOC meeting. Specifically Tuesday's meeting. The sitting members are discussing now. Will a resolution supporting the regulatory transfer come up for public discussion? That is the question. The momentum is swinging that way but as with much of this stuff, things change by the day.

Mr. Smith can also oppose the expansion of Sunday hunting once the control of it is in the right hands. Everyone would still have a voice.

I like to see that whole letter O.A. never wants to name names or give out the "personal info" but is the first to want it from everyone else... I quoted the part that dealt with Sunday hunting and was not AFRAID to say who said it and in what form... Sam Smith and in a personal letter.. What else may be in the letter is none of his business.... what a troll ...... BTW.. if you do not live here don't worry about the remember come voting time issue.. he could care less about your opinions... he wants to hear from voters.. REGISTERED voters... in his area.. not just any Tom,****or Harry...

With only 47% of the public voting in some elections(which I think is deploreable) he justs writes off what they have to say beacuse it will not benefit him....

It is in our best interest on Saturdays and Mondays as well as Sundays.

DPM-- - Speaker of The House is the top dog of the Majority party. He is the guy THEY elected to represent them and oversee the whole show- So if he says NO- guess what happens. That power against or for a bill can kill or make it. If the Bill was written and never got to the floor for an up or down vote who stopped it -probably at a comitte level where things get "tabled" and die after so many days or weeks- Comittes are chaired by folks in the majority party and most generally have majority representations in each comittee. Oh yeaa, have heard that maybe next year stuff before- "Not in My political career" is the human interpretation of that. I give your guy credit- at least he stood his ground and actually told you how he would vote instead of grousing around and giving you hope.

He's a great guy and one of the better politicians I have met .. he definitely is hunter and angler friendly and gets elected time and time again and it is not even close !!! and BTW O.A.... if you check === you'll see YOU WERE THE ONE harassing me about not posting the whole letter... So all he cares about are votes not what might be right ?? I know he personally is against Sunday hunting and knows most voters here are too... so my guess is he thinks no Sunday hunting is the "right thing" ... as for caring.. I LIKE THE GUY.. and have always voted for him... and when it comes to hunting and fishing he is ALWAYS interested in knowing what our club's memebership opinions are on topics. I want to see what happens with his latest idea.. to cut 50 elected postions from the Pa. house...

Sammy Smith has been in office for over 13 years after taking over his fathers seat. He does not support clean energy and it's clear why when you look at who supports him politically.Could money also influence him on his opinion on Sunday hunting ? Maybe we need some new blood in there as far as supporting Sunday hunting. Sorry Sam, Punxsutawney Phil is still fair game on Sundays (Smith's Hometown Rodent). The farmers around Jefferson are only a small number who don't want Sunday hunting. All in favor write your state rep and tell them to support Sunday hunting state wide.

That may be true for the area you have friends and family in but landowners, hunters, and farmers in this area (Brockway, Brookville, Sigel) say NO to Sunday hunting. Just look at Brookville.. they are still living in the 1950s... it's almost impossible to build any new business or any modern ideas for the town... rather than a new business they are tearing down an old one and adding a small "park" down town ???????????

Aaaahhh the 50's, those were some great times. Maybe Brookville has the right idea. If only the rest of the country would follow their lead. Of course gas was waaay too expensive .21 cents a gallon as I recall.

The rumor I always heard was that Cabela's wanted to go in by the Grove City Outlets..but Senator Byrd of WV made them a deal they couldnt pass up That would have been sweet to have a BPS or Cabela's 25 mins from the house edit: How long ago was the Lowe's and Walmart offers denied? Dubois and Clarion have Walmart's, and Dubois just built that bigger and better one, plus there is a Lowe's which I assume went to Dubois after Brookville said no
