The bear was a wild animal, killed legally, in season, on state gamelands, by a licensed hunter. The only crime was committed by those folks who tried to make it a pet. I'am with Akitadog, I have a couple of my own deer and turkeys that I feed on a regular basis in my back yard and would never think of shooting. However, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot yours in a hunting situation and wouldn't expect you to pass on mine in the same situation.

Wow.  Like it, and could not agree more.

Was the bear wearing a pink collar, bandanna and sunglasses riding a mini bike?

THIS ONE COMMENT IN PARTICULAR CAUGHT MY ATTENTION.............The person that shot this bear said #1 it was treed when shot. It is against the law to shoot a bear in PA that has taken refuge in a tree.
They knew the bear was fed, and have known this bear for years. They knew it was a pet. They set up right behind leroys house on the trail that the bear took daily to get his treat of twinkies and soda from leroy. The hunters just Happened to have twinkies an soda with them. The soda can had blood on it from the bear. The PGC knew that this bear was being fed and tried to capture it to move it. It was too big for the cage. There was a PGC officer hunting with them, that is a family friend. It is illegal to hunt in an area where it is known that bears are being fed. This is all from one of the hunters family members that helped recover the pet bear. This story just stinks. Now the young family member is taking back his stories saying people are making up rumors.

I'm not jelous at all! If you really new the story of the bear, and they did, your a slob hunter, there's NOTHING to be proud of,they killed a pet bear,( I bet old BOZO was really shaking when they surrouded with CB and bows)I don't feed the animals I hunt,,but to each his own,3 of you guys said you would have shot him. Some have said it's not right to feed and tame wild animals, but say you do why? Mr Lewis might have be wrong for feeding him but the whole town did,he got his last bowl of ice cream from the local inn the night before bear season. Ok say I have a deer pen,and hand raised a monster whitetail, and a week before Pa. gun season,he gets out of the pen.I run an add in the local paper about the deer, and it's sort of a well know deer in the area, would you travel here to get a shot at it.I guess the same three guys that would have shot BOZO would come a running.Come on boy's I'm glad some of you have shown your true colors,Great story,a real plus to show how much SOME Pa. huners are TRUE SLOBS,just another feather in the hat for the anti hunters to run with.

If I knew the bear was hand fed I would not have killed it. Now if Im not from the area and happen to bear hunt and cross paths with it, Dead! If they were hunting on a known path to the fellows house that was feeding him Then I think it's wrong as well as illegal. Yes that is a great trophy BUT tainted it is! Would it be ok to shoot a 170 class buck leaving someones feeder in buck season? No I didn't think so. Unless you didn't know it was being fed or baited. This guy surely is getting all of this attention because of the size of BoBo. If this was a 250 pound bear nobody would have known it was a "pet bear". I wouldn't consider it to be a pet at all, I think it's more of the fair chase in question. I'm sure the game commisiion is glad to see this potential threat gone. Does anyone know that facts of exactly where the bear was killed and was it really on its way to or from the people feeding it? Once he hit the woods a distance from the feeding area all bets are off and he's dead. What if there were 2 bear up there that size and this wasn't the domesticated one?
There was an older fellow up around cooks Forest that use to hand feed the bears every night. He was a crazy bas turd! He use to smack them if they were being greedy!

Jealous, Not me but I could see that being the case with some hunters.

Some one said that KDKA News showed a picture of Leroy feeding the bear before it was killed. Were the hunters from the area where Leroy lived?

It's against the law to feed bear. It's against the law to make a pet of a bear. The man was warned to stop feeding the bear. The PGC tried to trap and move the bear. The killing was investigated and found to be legal. Just because someone decides to illegally try to make a pet of a particular wild animal does not mean the rest of the state have to feel the same way. If the bear was a tame pet the owner shauld haave brought it inside during bear hunting season. As OA, said it is too bad the bear had a history with humans but it was humans breaking the law that put the hunter and bear in this situation. There are all kinds of rumors and speculation but the bottom line is the bear is dead and the PGC said it was a legal kill.

I'm opened minded and can see both sides of the deal, but it comes to ethics, and yes S-10 feeding the bear and getting it use to humans was wrong, but your just as bad YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF PET DEER YOU FEED,the only difference is there not a state record bucks, but then I wonder ,what you would do if it was? You been feeding him the night before the season, out of your hand, and then next morning you hunt in the state park that borders your land, bang you just bagged the state record, same deal, is it right? Right or wrong this boils down to ecthics and fair chase! Some of us have them and well, like my mother said IF YOU CAN"T SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT THE PERSON SAY NOTHING AT ALL. As far as BOZO he's dead and thats the end of it,right or wrong,Price and his gang got to live with their mess,of killing,THE STATE RECORD PET BEAR THAT HAS A NAME,BOZO,I'm glad I didn't shoot him.

If I was on leagal hunting grounds I would shoot it too, the real shame it that the bear was denied it's right to live a "wild" life and was domesticated by the humans. They are the ones to blame. Not the hunter.

Thats what makes this so interesting the mob that killed him NEW ALL ABOUT IT BOZO! Yes JEB and all others that would shoot,TRUE COLORS,I'd be so proud of a KILL like that,Just my $.02

The difference is I don't consider them pets and they are not in danger when they are near where I feed them and are as wild as any others when they are in the woods. Thousands of someones so called pets are shot every year in a hunting situation when they are free roaming the woods. You may very well have shot some yourself. Bottom line is a wild animal is not a pet nor should it be considered one and just because you choose to feed one does not give you ownership of it or control over it's movements away from your feeding station. It's too bad some people chose to try to tame and name the bear and considered it their pet but it's not the hunters fault. It apparently was not tame enough to bring inside during hunting season as you would a dog or cat so the eventual outcome was to be expected..

Where we deer hunt, the farmer across the road did raise deer, some huge deer.  And due to a massive storm one year, his fence was breached right before hunting season and two of his biggest breeder bucks escaped.  While there was no ad in the newspaper announcing the escape, the locals (of which we are not -- we travel 50 miles or so) did know about it and the woods in that area were packed with hunters that we have never seen in many, many years of hunting there.  So I would guess that the answer to your question is yes, if people know, they will hunt there in hopes of getting one.

Since we did not know that the deer had escaped, would it have been unethical, in your view, had one if our hunting party shot one of them?  Or would it only have been unethical if someone with local knowledge had shot one?

By the way, it has been several years since the escape and no one has shot either deer.  I guess they weren't that tame after all.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

it was an animal and a pest and needed to be removed before someone got hurt.  no need to go all disney on the bear.
