GREAT BEAR HUNTERS, The bears name was BOZO,hand feed since it was a cub for 17 years,by a Mr.Lewis, the bear was shot close to his trailer that he lived in,I guess PGC acts like it's a good kill.REAL SPORTY,you don't put 9 arrows in a wild bear, one of the guys worked 2 miles away from there and claims he did not know of the bear (17 year) hand fed) READ the real story and see the pics of Mr. lewis with his pet bear.Mr Lewis was sighted for feeding the bear! Yes I know it's against the law but killing this bear IS A DOWN RIGHT SIN. When BOZO was hungry,he knock on Mr.Lewis's back door.I'm a hunter and a killer but this deal is neither,How proud could you be,to have taken part in this deal? GREAT JOB Pa.BEAR HUNTERS,guys like you give us ALL A BAD NAME!

WWW.myhuntingforum.com, yes it was a legal kill but DO YOU WANT A BEAR THAT BAD? How many bear hunter would do this? I guess they held a pie for BOZO to smell,so they could place there shots. Again nice job to the slobs!

I have squirrels that do the same thing and I hand feed a flock of turkeys too.  In the adjacent woodlot, they are not so tame any more.  Act as wild as anything.

I would pay money to see all of the folks that claim this bear was tame to walk up to it in the woods and feed it twinkies.  He may have been tame to Leroy but I have yet to see pics of anyone else hugging him, especially in the woods.

People pay to shoot deer in a cage and then mount them on their wall. The fact that someone would kill a tame bear is not surprising.

    Record Bear Becomes Hunter’s Nightmare

A Poconos hunter bagged a state-record black bear last week, but now faces local scorn after the bear was found to be the unofficial mascot for a tourist site.
The 875-pound bear was killed by David Price, a Northeast Pennsylvania bow hunter. The bear kill was authenticated by state game officials as a clean kill that happened in sanctioned game lands.
Then, the record kill started turning into a big negative for Price, when the late bear turned out to be Bozo the bear, a local icon at Bushkill Falls, a well-known tourist attraction, and at a restaurant.
Bozo had been hand-fed since he was a cub by a local man, and at the age of 17 was a fixture at the attraction.
In fact, Leroy Lewis, 71, was warned by local officials about feeding Bozo various scraps.
Price said he's upset by the bad publicity generated by the kill, which isn’t going over well with the locals.
"This may be the peak of my hunting career, and it's tainted, it really is," Price told the Pocono Record.
There has been an outpouring of grief from residents who had grown to love Bozo.
"I'm devastated. I'm just devastated," said Lewis. "I mean I feel like I lost a friend."
Lewis said the bear would knock on his door when he was hungry.
Christine Branigan, a waitress at a nearby restaurant, said Bozo was the eatery's "mascot" and had visited the night before he was killed.
He rapped on the backdoor and employees fed him some ice cream, she said.
Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman Jerry Feaser said bears can create a public nuisance if they're fed by humans. They're also creatures of habit that can become accustomed to finding food in one area, he said.
Feaser stressed that wildlife officials investigated the bear's death and found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Price.
Price also told one local newspaper he’d been tracking the bear for three years .
There was also an unconfirmed message board post from a man claiming to be Price’s nephew that it took three hunters and nine arrows to kill the bear.

It still spent a good part of its life around humans. The bear did not take humans as a dangerous threat to itself.

I used to handfeed free ranging deer at Glendale when younger.  I could not imagine carrying a bow into the woods in the area going after a world class buck that was handfed.   Then except praise for my kill and stand on top of it like I'm some sort of king and the defeated animal is somehow inferior.  "Legal" or not, this is a sad moment for fair chase sportsman.

No, I would not. I'm no more jealous of these people than the guys that shoot hand raised exotic cats in a 10 by 10 foot fenced area. But if you're happy to do that, it sure says a lot about you.

The bear was a wild animal, killed legally, in season, on state gamelands, by a licensed hunter. The only crime was committed by those folks who tried to make it a pet. I'am with Akitadog, I have a couple of my own deer and turkeys that I feed on a regular basis in my back yard and would never think of shooting. However, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot yours in a hunting situation and wouldn't expect you to pass on mine in the same situation.
