This place is fun--what on earth does any of the stuff we are talking about have to do with Pulaski and flooding.

Bing. You started with me. And I will end it with that. I see you have a closed mind and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm willing to walk away with a handshake. FYI... i am not a snagger And I have no problem with people who hunt. I think you just misundgserstood me and lets leave at that.

Hey Salmo-
Years ago my wife and I scrimped and saved to buy my oldest kid ( about 8 then) a violin he wanted to learn at school. Those were lean years.
Right after the purchase we were driving along and the kid says 'I want a bugel". I got a bit miffed as we had just bought the darned violin and I told him to be happy with what he had and not to want another instrument.
He said "no no daddy, I mean the kind that chases rabbits".

Did you get him one?

There is a crack in the upper res. dam wall. Not a rumor. This is not good.

Cute pup Salmo, Nothing better that a turned on bugler chasing a wabbit!!!

As far as the dam on the upper res. Here is a pic I lifted from the intrawebs on the day of the flooding:

Hopefully it is just a surface crack and the little spouts of water formed by the water running down the crack.. I would think that if the crack went all the way through you would see mini gushers, considering the amount of water pressure behind the wall.

The mid portion of the dam was rebuilt, repoured recently.

Nevertheless, I am sure the powers that be are aware of the situation... (one would hope so).

In your analogy, Snagging fish is like just shooting a deer to bring it down, then letting it go.

Dime
Snagging is to fishing what jacklighting is to hunting.
The lowest common denominator and in both cases illegal.
There is a huge difference between the lowest, other than caged hunts, form of killing an animal and the legal sporting fishing for salmon.

Yes I completely agree wader. I guess I can't explain what I'm trying to say though. Put all legalities and common ethics aside and then think about it with your heart.I guess that's all I can say. Let me throw this one out there. One can snag Bunker from the ocean to use as bait. This is a common and accepted act. What makes a bunkers life less important than a salmon when the truth really comes down?

Yes it was Mika... I imagine the mortality rate was in the thousands. Probably natural spawners were the highest death toll I would imagine...

Dime
Nothing makes them a lesser life form.
Bloodsports are all exactly that. While snagging you can TRY to release you quarry unharmed but TRYING to do something does not mean it will happen. Many deaths to fish caught legally and a higher percentage of those intentionally snagged are destined to die from their injuries. That being the case a well placed shot while hunting is a far more humane and ethical thing to do than snag a fish. There is no lingering. The death is certain and sudden.
The ethics involved with snagging fish are more about playing by the same rules as the fellow next to you has to because he is an honest law following human. The ethical behavior is owed him. You (not you personally) are no better than him and are intitled to only what the rule book you get when you purchase your license says you can are. To snag is to intentionally steal from him. If not his fish, since they are no more his than anyone else's, his chance to fairly by lawfull means catch a fish since as you know when mercilessly snagged at even what were the top end preditors become nonaggressive.
Sorry for rambling. Ask a more concise question and I will TRY to be more on point with a response.

I fish most of the river my friend... besides I pay for my pass in one shot in the begining so I can justify it. Look at it this way, its less than half the price of a yearly gym subscription, and a better work out in my eyes. For salmon I mostly only fish there. For steel I wander. I consider myself a steelheader rather than a salmon Fisher. Salmon lasts 4 to 6 weeks for me and usually ends for me by mid to end of september. Will be up again this weekend but will be punching a tractor clutch and swinging a hammer rather than flies.maybe one day when pressure lightens a Bunch of us can meet up and maybe a few different groups go in different directions for some steelies.

Tuna... I'm still waiting for your response in regards to glide downstream... November December or February sounds good for me. Gotta love those big males that come out from under the ice in early Feb when the mid 20 degree heat waves come about. Tight lines guys...

Dime
When I fished the SR 3-5 days a week justifing the cash was easy. Now it would be like a yearly gym membership knowing you wee only going to use it a half dozen times.

Now days for me its mostly between lets say below schoolhouse and above sportsmens.
And as I stumble along into my 60s the hills keep getting steeper and the Parking lots seem further away.

Of course wader. I was just letting you know its worth it for me but at the same time I fish the entire river as well. Hopefully one day a bunch of us can get together and fish. Even if we don't fish the same spots maybe just meet up for a beer or coffee to talk about the day we had...

Jeez - what kind of gym are you talkin about?
A year's membership to the modern, well-equipped ones ones in my area cost a $100 less than an annual DSR pass.

But then again, they don't provide a full body massage and a happy ending with each visit.

Well my wife just joined one I think for 60 a month... free day care, all different special classes, the whole 9... 60 multiplied by 12 is much more than the season pass...

daycare is a plus ..not quite double the DSR fee though and the pass don't get you in 12 months out of the year either.

Dime,in my travels thru the backwaters and woods along the river I did n't see too many dead Salmon, maybe a dozen, surprised me as I was expecting more.I did rescue a catfish stranded on shore, they sure can live a long time out of water.I also saw one dead Atlantic smolt, but caught several while fishing. It does n't look like the kill was massive :)
By the way as I went by your place I saw several large brown rodents with flat tails eyeing your framing....they looked hungry! LOL
