Roll Man that Jon boat brings back some Great memories!! I had A 12 Jon for a long time and caught a Unbelievable amount of fish from. I used a 46 minnkota on my for years and never let me down. I think I got like 3-5 mph depends on the wind. I would get some seat clamps and seats AS A PRIORITY YOU WON't BE SORRY Dave

Bighead, the seats are on the list, the only bad thing the list right now is big and growing. I could only imagine the time and money you guys with the big boats spend. I hope xmas comes a couple times this year.lol. Dog, your right it seams like yesterday he was born now he is six, goes in the blink if a eye. We are goin to try to get it out as much as we can before winter. Like I said before this is all new to me. I think I was on a boat once and that was about 20 years ago when I was a kid. Any advice will be appreciated.

Be careful. A flat bottom boat is not designed to take waves. A deep V is much more stable in rough water. Take a boating class-they can even be done online.

Ya I will be carefull. We wont be out in to much waves. The lakes in my area are smaller. Went with a flat bottom in case I want to river fish. We will see how it works out.

Best advice I could offer is... always remember a length of rope for tying off to things, seats are never soft enough after 4 hrs! LOL and take a look at your tackle bag then figure out how to cut your stuff down to about a quarter of what you normally carry. Clutter or bulk and a small boat aren't a good mix. Organizing it beforehand can make it much more enjoyable on the water. Get a small landing net also, you don't want to be reaching too far out over the edge to land fish. The more often you take your back side off of the seat the more likely you will end up getting wet! And remember a set of oars for when the trolling battery dies unexpectedly!

A lot of drownings happen when standing to pee off a small boat.

Thanks guys. I got a landing net and oars the other day. I was looking up what I need to be legal and saw that you need a 360 deg light, witch I have but do you need lights on the boat. I cant just use like a rechargeable spotlight or work light? I guess the spotlight would be bad to use because of blinding others but is it legal to use somthing of that nature or not.

You need a 360 deg light in the back and a red/green light on the bow... As stated you can get clamp on lights that run on D batteries..... You also need a noise making device... Whistle will do...

You really should pick up a book explaining all the regulations for your size boat and what is required to operate it. Good luck and be safe!

roll I went through the clamp-on light thing and they BITE if the batteries don't go dead the contacts corrode to no end.installing permanent lights are fairly easy and cheap. Just find where you are going to put your battery box then drill into the top rail run mechanics wire through and pull your wire back through. the three way switch and wire, lights will be about 30-40 bucks!!! Will last for years If you would like more info and some do's and don'ts PM me and i will be glad to help Dave
