I have to work but might have to take my lunch break early, like the 1st half hour of the day LOL.  If you are still there in the afternoon I might swing past although it's typically dark by he time I get home.  Thanks for the invite.

The nice thing about Collins is there are businesses close by to use the bathrooms.  I can just run home.  If I'm around people are welcome to come use the facilities. (restricted to 1/2 hour increments )!

Nice to be aboard.

well sat nite & sunday look like a real mess weather wise. I drive in anything so the weather don't bother me much but what about you guys ? Should it still be a go for Chestertown or do we look for other waters closer to home ?

Update:
Really Chestertown don't look all bad.. Temps above freezing over night sat and maybe rain until noon sunday but well above freezing... Looking better

Im still in. Looks like fairly light precipitation anyway. We should be fine with temps above freezing on sunday. Looks like I will have my bro and my niece and nephew also and possibly dad. I will most likely skip exit 9 and head straight for the lake or crossroads.  See ya sunday.

Loon still sounds good to me!  There will be a lot of guys with shanties, and Loon gives everyone some fun fish to chase around with whatever method they choose.  We can just choose a lunchtime for any guys who wanna' swing by Hot Tuna's Shanty at "halftime" and hopefully we might fry some fish?

Perch Inc. are you coming up to Chestertown on Sunday?

I'm still in as well.  RJ, I'll see you at the crossroads between 6:30 and 7:00.  As far as bait goes, do they sell it at the crossroads or should I pick some up in 'Toga the night before?  Also, what would you recommend that I get?

Crossroads is a 1 stop shop. If you need it they have it there.. ~Z~ we got plenty of tip-ups & jig rods so you are all set there. You will need a bucket (for bait) any will do.
Bring a chair to rest your legs..
As for bait.
Lg. Shiners are $8.00 a doz or suckers $8.00 1/2doz They will work on Pike & walleyes...
Med Shiners are $4.00 a doz & will work on the above
sm Shiners $4.00 doz for perch..

Spikes or wax worms for jiggin perch.

If you got a 1/2 & 1/2 Lg & meds you'll be fine..

see ya there or on the Ice..

As it winds up I got  everything I will need.  Spoke to Reel Force today and I will be riding up with him in the morning.  As long as my fat arse doesn't fall through the ice, it looks like it will be a great day.  See ya' at the Crossroads.

Looks like I'll be a late arrival if I get up there... gotta go get a couple hours sleep after work tonight, i've been up all day today. So where you guys are parking is off of the southwest basin on Rte 8?  Do i head towards the middle of lake? I should be getting up there around 9 oclock or so.  I'll buzz somebodys cell if I'm lost.

PERCH or HOOK do you have to work tonight also?

You got it NYY, south west basin abouts. Left off northway > Rt 8 (4miles from 87)to rt 9 (you should see us on lake at that point).. take Right on rt 9 then first road on left. (Van Guilder rd), park on side of that road and walk across rt.9 onto ice... at worst you may see parking before that rd on right (lake side), its DEC access, walk up a ways from there and trail to ice.

Also I'll show up at crossroads between 6:30 > 7 ,closer to 7 If you need bait get it when you show up, it can get busy in there. ...Or we will see ya on the lake ..

See you guys in the morning!

I suggest you all write down the directions to the lake and access- that way no one has to wait around at Crossroads for anybody, etc. and each person can set up when they arrive.

Looking forward to lunchtime at Tuna's shanty around noon.  Bring soeme grub to cook up and we'll make a feast out of it.  We're hoping for a fish fry too.  Who knows!

Sorry Barry, I'm on the day shift this weekend. 7am-7pm. Otherwise we could have car pooled it.

Good luck to everyone going. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Hopefully the fish will cooperate. Wish I were goin'.

When hell freezes over, I'll fish there too.

Holy Turds, what a blast...  Lotsa' different fish hit the ice!

I am way too sleepy to post a report, but that is what the workday is for tomorrow.  I am sure plenty of fun photos will follow from the crew.  Rainy in the early AM, but then sunshine and warmth for the majority of the day.  Also, lots of laughing.

Fish landed included a few Pike, a few bass, a few perch, a few pickerel and a WALDO.  Reports to follow once sleep is acheived for a few hours at least.  What a great day.

Thanks to Hot Tuna for putting it together, and to all the others for toughing it out and making it such a fun time.

RE: Ice 09-10 Annual Kickoff 2009/12/28 10:28:35 (permalink)
I am bummed that I managed to forget my camera on Sunday morning...  There were at least 100 times during the day that I wish I could have snapped a photo of the crew enjoying themselves.

The day on the ice with many of these forum dudes was a ton of fun.  The action was sporadic for most of the day, but it was far from a drought.  Morning weather was about as bad as it gets- rain...  Lots of rain.

But by around 9:30am or so the rain subsided and the shanties were doing double-duty as drying shelters for clothes.  By lunchtime nearly everyone was pretty warm and dry, and the sun shone for most of the afternoon.

Ice fishing in sweatshirts while surrounded by snowy mountains is awesome.

I know there were plenty of photos taken during the day, and I am hoping more than a few make it on this thread!

Thanks again to those who came out and made it such an awesome day.  And special thanks to Hot Tuna for picking a lake with such good diversity.  We didn't fill any bathtubs with fish, but I think it is safe to say that those in attendance did their fair share of smiling and laughing.

New guys, "old vets", tall guys, short guys- we all had a blast.

It was a blast! The pouring rain on the ride up wasn't very encouraging for Duane and I. Neither was the 6+ inches water on top of the ice in spots. However, about mid morning, once that sun came up, it turned into a beautiful day. Jigging was a little dead, but pounding a few beers, shooting the $hit with everyone, watching the tip up spread, thoroughly inspecting Reel Force's shanty and eating some of KJO's very fine clam chowder more than made up for it!

Overall a great day. Great people and a great time. A few flags for our group, but no fish. It was really nice to see a diversity of fish being caught. Hopefully one of many get togethers for the hardwater gang this season.

The Clam Chowder was friggin' awesome...

Anytime you see that much bacon in a crock pot, you know it's gonna' be good!

Thanks for the excellent chowder KJO!  I hope you had a good time, it was great to get to meet you.

What a sweet ice sled too- an "oversize load" sign on the back of that toboggan would be classic.

First things first - TUNA, thanks for setting this up and making it happen!

I had a great time and it was nice to put some more 'faces to names'
I didn't grab alot, but here are a few pics from the day.

Isn't the water supposed to be under the ice?

Duane & Deadfishred

We had to stare at this view all day long... hard work, but somebody's gotta do it!

Jimmy and Lorne had the hot hands... a couple of fish

The ice tightened-up by the end of the day, I think the 100+ holes that we drilled helped alot!
