As usual - beautiful work Flyguy. Been working on a few of those myself but am still having a bit of trouble getting the married wings tied down how I like them. Of course this @#$! shoulder's in a sling once again so that doesn't help.

Adding the fly to your line is the finishing piece that will help bring the fish in. Use the "clinch" knot to tie the fly to the tippet on your line.
Perhaps the most important tool you'll use in fly tying is the fly vise. If you look in fly fishing magazines, you'll have an opportunity to see plenty of advertisements for lots of different fly vises. It can get confusing just trying to sort out the features you need from the ones they say you need.

dc, you tie all them? wow, you're getting into it!!!!
i'd put white biot wings on some of those ties. just something different ad white has an attraction to it such as the prince nymph and other down wing wets.

FG - Very, very nice!!! I was at the Somerset show on Sat. and besides gettin some materials for the classics, I got some cleargoo epoxy. Played around with it this morning. KJ talked about it a bit before on another thread and had to give it a try. Good stuff. Fast curing. Don't tie many epoxy's but it is pretty neat. Now on to the tinsel, crests, floss, and dyed turkey, ect. FG - I may be in touch if I get too frustrated.  Reidenbach's book and CD are great!

Nice minner.

I've heard of that stuff, and heard it's really nice to use.  Did they have a booth at Somerset selling the clearcuregoo or something?  Or did you buy it from a flyshop?

There was a booth...and yes it is some great stuff. Cures in like 5 seconds with the UV light.

That's looks like some pretty good stuff.  I've seen the site before.

Did the guys from the company demonstrate the product or tie some of the flies like on their site to show how much better than epoxy it looks like it is?

They did some tying to show the product. I've tried some epoxies before (two part) and the problem was always the wait. Constant turning the vice since I don't have a drying wheel. So far from what I've found in the little I've used it so far is I'm pretty impressed. There's some gimmicks out there in the tying world (like I saw this weekend @ Somerset) and my opinion - for what that's worth -  is that this is not one of them. Good Stuff. Shine the UV light that comes with the kit and in 4-5 seconds it's set up.

Had to try a couple caterpillars..
Tried a few soft hackles..
Made a couple latex maggots to try and fool some panfish..
Some real ugly spidery looking things..
And my first attempt at a parachute dry..(I mashed the heck out of the foam trying to wind the hackle)

Those epoxy minnows look great. Steelhead? Just wondering.  I seem to stay much more earth tone/natural.  Not completely natural as as mucha as impressionistic.

Nice tubes, Loomis. What brand tubing are you using? I like the Frodin FITS tubing and tie tubes just for sthd using the small combined with Xsmall. Have tried the Eumer Xsmall combined with Frodin size small and find this works well because the Eumer tubing is thicker walled and a bit more rigid. Frodin and Eumer Xsmall will accept standard size small cones which I use for just about all my tubes. Best combination for using small standard cones is Frodin small combined with Eumer Xsmall tubing because it's easier to get the cones on the Eumer tubing. The Frodin small tubing is really good for accepting a size 6 or 8 straight eye hook without the need for junction tubing.

Will post some tube pics when I figure out how to do it with my wife's new camera.

I use all canadian tube fly stuff, but there is nothing wrong with Eumer. I had a chance to meet with the Eumer guys at the show in Jersey, they make it pretty simplified and straight forward. In the future I plan on selling some Eumer stuff, CTF just has a better variety and more materials for sale. The cool thing about tube flies is that you can really do a gazillion things with a bunch of cool material, but at the same time they don't have to be all detailed and meticulous to produce. I have fun trying different stuff with them. The weighted tubes in that picture are all Eumer stuff, and the chartreuse wiggle tube on that purple icepick is from CTF.

Cool article, I just had a few nails I found on the floor of the building room and figured I would use them on that fly.....
