Not all locals have a brain

I went for a ride today with my boys and there where a few guys fishing the mouth of this stream and then....

BAM

This yahoo goes walking way out into the water LIKE HE ALWAYS DOES!! And preceeds to cast over infront of these guys. Now I'm not a fan of guys flyfishing the lake nor am I trying to get into a debate about it either but in this case these guys were doing good and having fun so I say have at em. But when this moron walked out in the water their fishing died. I mean its not like the fly guys could cast a mile out in the lake like this spoonchunker was the wind was blowing every which way. When I left he was inching his way over to get right infront of these guys.

I just thought that I would share this with everyone because its not just the out of towners that dont always use there heads the locals do it to. I've seen this guy every year just about every time I go out all I can say is maybe someday he'll learn just cause you have chest waders you dont need to go out to YOUR CHEST!!
Also you dont even need waders to fish at the mouth the last couple times I got out the fish were all of about a foot of shore.

I have seen that guy before. Once the mouth bite slows he pulls his pin out and drifts down past 8 guys. What a loser.

Clearly you are mistaken. Only out-of-town anglers cause trouble in Erie. You need to read on here more often.

I have to agree with you, papinner.
I throw flies in the lake 2-3 days a week and rarely do I find a need to get my feet wet.
Most of my fish are caught within 30 feet of shore.
I found out that as soon as someone wades out, the fish move out.
Here's a pick from last Tuesday while standing on the beach.
As I stood back 10 feet from the shore, the fish would move right up to the shoreline.
I had to crawl up on my hands and knees to get this shot.
As I stood up, 20-30 fish bolted north.

Saw the same thing at Trout Run a few years ago.  Guy was sooo far out the fish were moving in behind him so I caught 3 within about 14 feet of his backside.  It was real fun asking him to move so I could fight my fish in the lake.  And once when my fish took my line across his legs at a 90 degree angle.  (lost that one)  What's weird is he never got but 1 hit and never did get the hint:  The fish are TRYING to come in.  Why do you think they are in 6" of water at Trout Run?

it dont matter what your fishin for down there... steelhead or walleyes at night in the spring... always got the clowns that think they need to wade up to their chest and start casting.... its never gonna change... no need to even get your feet wet.... both the eyes and steelhead will hit 2 feet off shore....

I'm sure we all have our stories. But don't forget, we were at some point just like that guy. We weren't born the "expert" steelbow fisherman and women that we are now

I realize you were ranting, and I hear ya, that kind of stuff is frustrating! But I know for a fact that I have been "that guy" in the past, either on the stream or at the lake. And who knows, it might happen again. Here's hoping that guy sees this rant and wises up.

    Dave,

The guy was just referring to the guy wading out, as a spoonchunker. He wasn't talking about me.

Its not the worst thing I've seen I was just saying this guy has been like this for as long as I can remember and only one time I saw him get what was coming to him a local guy on 20 walked out right in front of him and started fishing just to make a point the guy got mad and left but never learned his lesson. If your a local eastsider I'm sure you know the guy I'm talking about.

I will certainly beg to differ with you there....I must admit, I have NEVER shown disrespect to others on the streams...I was fortunate enough to be taught common sense and common respect to others by my dad and that has NOTHING to do with being a fresh new first time steelheader.

It is an ignorant idiot who walks out in front of you into an area where you might be hooking fish....not someone who does not understand how to catch steelhead and is new to it.  He/she should certainly know better....even if its just someone walking the beaches.  I had one guy set up directly across the stream from me after he saw me hooking fish 3' off the opposite bank.  I told him that I'd rather he come over and stand right next to me so that we could both catch fish(I was ignored).....Niether one of us caught any more fish in that spot anymore....I was basically forced to move.  THAT has nothing to do with common fishing catching knowledge, but everything to do with being totally ignorant and having no courtesy for those around you....becoming a better fisherman will not teach anyone that!

And trust me...learn to deal with more and more of that behavior in the future...I see less and less common repect and courtesy within our youth of today.  I can't imagine what the future has in store.

It never ceases to amaze me how Pittsburghers , Russians, Amish and everybody except locals are blamed for poor ethics . Some people [locals ?] believe that locals have perfect sportmanlike behavior . The flaw in this thinking is obvious . Watch for the fireworks now , lol .

The problem i have seen is hogs who hog the fish.  I have seen a couple of guys who must be on welfare because they look like they do not own razors or soap.but they have cell phones and noodle rods.
The catch many many fish and let most loose with no care whatsoever they will not move and let anyone else fish they are usually three abreat and stay in the mouth of the creek for hours.

Poor sports let all have a chance to catch a few???????
