You just said a 30-Jet would get 50-60, to answer your question.
Jeesh, now I'm confused...

Put a  50 Jet on an inline planer....that way you can get it out past your 3 or 3.5 dipsy...Don't use them out deep....They don't pull that hard.....Pull alot less than a 3.5 dipsy I think...

No, I was asking what do you use to get down 50+ on the boards since you seem so clueless to what a jet diver was and how it worked...

Small downrigger balls?  Big dipseys?  I don't know.
I didn't mean to inconvenience you with my "cluelessness", your Heiness.
Sorry I asked.

Thanks for the response Slick.  Why not just use big boards to get them past dipsies?

You could, but more than one 50 jet on the line would pull to hard. You could essentially just put 2 inlines off each side. and then run your dipsies and riggers. Depends on how many people you have on your boat (How many rods you can run).

Cedar doubles....Homemade...I run 4 plugs off each side and they seem fine. But never tried to run 50 Jets off of them, but just thinking they would pull to hard for them....

50 jets cant be run on big boards very easily...they pull too hard...I think a 40 is pushing the limits of most release and band style trips.

I guess this is why so many people run the 30s and why they feel the need to use 300ft of wire to get them down into the 50-60ft depths in the late summer.  The 30s allow them to run multiple lines off the boards, get em deep and away from the dipsy program, and be effective for the most part...Im not a fan, but whatever works i guess.

Ironhead, didnt mean the insult, i was just wondering what you do for your planer board rods in middle of summer when the fish are way down deep.

Lead core and snap weights can be pulled by a good inline like a Church walleye board and reach as deep as the walleyes roam.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

You might as well be prepared for everything and anything.  I saw someone asking about a mast...you're not going to put a mast on that thing are you?  All you really need to do is to set up some Big Jon pullys/cranks on your hard top.....heres how I set up mine and they work awesome.....the line goes out from the front of the hardtop with a pulley and spring set up...mostly use the boards for muskie fishing for now.

CB,
OK.
You gonna fish the EPSFA's Pro-Am coming up August?

No interest in the tourney, no interest in steelhead fishing...and Definatly no interest in purchasing a PA Fishing License...sorry...

Im not a professional nor do I claim to be just cause I bought a bigger boat doesnt mean im out to prove anything, or win the hearts of the fisherie faitful, I just wanted a big boat...I dont have to really justify it...Or earn money to pay for it...

Im just an everyday **** who loves to kill walleyes...That sums it up...

Good move carpet, he's been a captain for a whole year now..........

Since '98, Teddy.  Get it right.

Ironhed

my bad (maybe), just seem to remember a thread on the old board about 2 years ago......
sumthin' about you passing your "6pack" captain license.

Boat is for sale...Boat served me very very well and is still in good working order.  Ive never experienced a problem with the structure of the boat and have used it in my share of 2-4s and 3-5s in my 9 years of ownership.

Didnt have a problem with the boat...Little tight for 4 guys though.  If you are fishing just 2-3 guys its a great boat for the purpose....If I wouldnt have found this boat, id still be in the trophy.

Paul, I like your setup...Im planning on just throwing the reels on my hardtop and just rolling with it...A mast wouldnt work up front cause of the anchor windlass...I dont fish boards a ton, but im sure with the amount of room I have now that i wouldnt be opposed to it as much if i can run the rods and the conditions are favorable...You definatly need them in the western basin...

These folks doing this in Ohio go on 2 day trips and use coffee can sized reels?! It sure seems to me like it would take a full day alone to make a turn with all that line swathing through the water.

This is true...I don't know why anyone would want to use boards in 50+ fow..I use 50 jets on inline planers 100ft back...that's the extent..Most of the time it's dipsies and riggers...

How many inlines do you run at one time? You can easily fish with five rods per side using big boards, 10 total.

Never have 5 people on the boat walleye fishing for 1. 4 at the max so that's 8 rods. 2 riggers, 4 dipsies and 2 planers. Now as of right now...In close..This last weekend I ran 6 off the planers and 1-20 Jet and 1 dipsy.

No, you're right, it was me.
Took the 6-pack in '98 and the masters(with towing endorsement) in '05.
Nowhere on any test I took did it say a **** thing about knowing how to fish.

Yup....I usually run spoons or harnesses....This past weekend I was running a renowski rattler off of it since they can't dive that deep by themselves.

There is no hour meter on the boat.  However, all I used the main engine for was in and out...All the rod holders GPS, Planer board mast, ect all go with the boat.

Probaly around 1000-1200 hours on the motor I would venture.  Runs very strong.  I redid the heads and valves on the engine about 4 years ago.  New bellows and on the Exhaust and U-Joint on the lower unit last year.  Newer fuel pump, electronic ignition, rebuilt the starter...I was a stickler for preventive maintenance and the mechanics of this boat are very good.

Ive already had it out this year, and if I wouldnt have bought the sport, Id still be in the trophy.

Trolls 2-3 guys very nicely...

Did you ever change the exhaust manifold/elbow? How bout water pump??? How does it handle the rough water? Trim Tabs?

I might consider looking...Mine is getting worn...And starting to suck up lots of money in parts....I have to figure out why the engine got hot in my run in last week...Hope it's not a head gasket...changed thermostat and temp sending unit...Took apart exhaust elbow and manifold end cap to look for blockages but no dice...So?? Prolly just water pump...???
