Im In the Water!!

Finished up the boat on Friday, Rod Holders Mounted, Fresh coat of bottom paint...

Launched the boat Saturday mid morning...drove around Conneaut harbor...Shaft spinning straight...Boat running as it should...Ventured out of the harbor to see how it liked the 2-3's literally mowed them right down...VERY IMPRESSED!  Drop the tabs to the floor get that bow digging rev her up to 3500rpm and your going 25mph right through 3ft waves...

Ran around in tight dropped the kicker...Runs beautifully...EASILY trolls the boat up to 4mph...Turned right into the chop with the kicker no problem making turns or heading back through them with the 9.9 Honda...

Sunday perch fished with just my dad...60 perch in 72ft of water fast and furious...Windlass is the Cat's ****...

Lake was flat Sunday brought her in WIDE OPEN THROTTLE 35mph (on GPS) 4500rpms....On Saturday didnt really get the trim needed but with 4 of us on board we were doing 30mph with ease...Not too bad for a 28ft boat...

PAIN IN THE****TO DOCK...very tight quarters for a single inboard at Conneaut...lol so far Im 2 for 2 not wrecking into anyone...

I have one more little piece of exhaust hose to replace and trying to get my planer boards setup......

I stole this boat...Ill admit it now...We had some issues to fix, but all seems to be in good working order...

Im ready to walleye fish now....

Why are you putting a planer board mast on your boat if you don't need them?  Seems like a waste of money to me.

    Ironhead,

I do run boards over in the western basin and have used them in tight in June...I never said you dont need them...I said if your fishing only 2-3 guys why bother in the middle of summer when dipsys very easily can get you your limit without worrying about boards and can be run in less than ideal conditions...Never had to worry about it on my old boat since you couldnt fish more than 3-4 guys...But its nice to have em somedays...I havent run boards in the central basin in probaly 2 years though very honestly...In the summer months I havent needed them to get 18-24fish...

Not plannin on mounting a mast system anyways, probaly just going to use reels on the hardtop for as much as I am going to use them...

    Slick,
So you got 5 on boards?  Pretty slow, eh?
I've only caught a couple on boards this year...

With them in close, yes, with Bagley's...I also run dipsies as well, depends on the depth im fishing. I have always had better luck fishing shallower depths with stick baits and boards. I just seem to pull Junk Fish with the meat and spoons...Just my opinion...Go out deep, dipsies all the way.

Rarely, When they are suspended I run 40 Jets off of the boards. That seems to work well also.

    Jet divers.

Work same as dipsy, but there is no trip. They come in 5 different sizes: 10,20,30,40 and now 50. When you put them back 100 feet they will dive to whatever size they are. For example, if you are using a 20 size Jet and you put it back 100 ft it will dive 20ft. As soon as there is a hit, they plane out and float to the top to make it easy to reel. Also, they can't be planed to either side like a dipsy. Straight back, hense why I put them on boards.

If you dont know what you are doing you would have wracked up a nice big fat bill at the marina, as I am sure they would have wanted to do alot more than just check the alignment...Not to mention I highly doubt they could have got it all done during their peak time in 3 weeks.  At $100 an hour + the cost of parts they mark up you easily could have wracked up a nice $5 or 6k bill with the mechanic...

Its not like I waved my hands and this thing came together...I spent the last 3 Friday's and 2 Saturdays working 6am-12am (thats 18hrs a day folks) on this boat to make this happen...Its still not 100% done but its **** close enough for me at this juncture...Lots of scars, lots of fiberglass in my forearms, lots of time, lots of work, lots of advice, lots of $$...

Im Smiling though now, and my mind is at ease knowing that im fairly mechanically sound...Hopefully now I can just enjoy my summer with only a few minor things to worry about...

No im not calling the guy into question...Captain or no captain...I have made very few enemies and a whole lot of good friends in my fishing and intend to keep it that way....I have no problem with anyone, and like to keep and maintain a fairly calm disposition, and for some reason you dont like me, maybe you need to work that out somehow.

I have a great deal of respect for the EPSFA, the SONS, and all other organizations who like to contribute back to the fishery we all know and love....I dont need to be a member of this, or be involved with that, or fish this tourney here or that one there to validate myself as a fisherman....Some like the competitive nature of it, its just not for me...thats all there is to it...nothing more...nothing less...

Im not the best, nor do I really claim to be, im consistant at best and just very honest about my fishing reports and findings...Im not out to win anything or obtain any bragging rights over ANYBODY, nor do I view a victory or a good finish in a tourney as a marketing advantage for my business because I am not a Charter Captain at this point...

I never have gone out in search of just BIG walleye and have never ever officially fished for steelhead in deep water...I like to fill coolers, if they are bigger so be it, if they are all 18-22" fish thats fine with me too...I got a bigger boat to bring more people along to enjoy what I enjoy 2-3days each week May-October..

I hate the "Commonwealth" of Pennsylvania (its not a state) and feel they run their fishing programs in a very poor manor on Lake Erie and their boating facilities are a joke.  I have voiced my displeasure with many of the officers and at meetings with PA Fish Co Represenatives.  I do not feel that any of their efforts or investments are favoring a LAKE ERIE ANGLER or Boater.  So by the power of choice and the ability to go elsewhere I have made that decision...

I dont care how good the fishing is in 25-30fow off Virginia Beach in June, Im not buying a PA License again!

Typically Jets replace the space where the dipsy is....They are the method of diving used instead of the dipsy.

Lots of guys over in Ashtabula like to run 30 jets with 300ft of wire off the boards...Lots of cranking! but it does work in the late season

Its a task....30 jets with 300ft+ of wire get down about 50-60ft...which in 70-80fow off the Ohio Ports water is pretty much good enough...You probaly could use a 40 jet, but i dont think a planer board would work with how hard they pull.

How do you get lines down 50+ft with boards?
