There is indeed tiger trout escapees on both streams mentioned, but that is a brown trout on the posted Pic.

As far as I know, the PFBC no longer stocks tiger trout.  Any tigers that are caught in a PA delayed harvest are fugitives.  Given the two streams mentioned it is certainly more than believeable.

Escapees in what sense? That they literally got out of the hatchery or they were a stowaway on the truck?

See what produced when they raise trout to adulthood in hatcheries.  Mutants.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

yes.  escape from the hatchery, or stream in which stocked.  not a stowaway.

Let us speak no more of this.

Got this guy this morning, nice fish, but i noticed that from this fish's pectoral fin to its tail it has similar markings as the brown showed, and yes loomis it was a great day to have a camera, thats why i always carry, no buddies to take my pretty lil pic today so the fish will do, measured a hair under 21 inches

def a tiger...no question about it....came from upstream.....

no

Private Fishing clubs exist on Loyalhanna and Meadow Run. The fish in the Yough was from Beaver Creek Anglers.  The first fish is definitely a tiger. I have caught about two dozen of those over the years and have even stocked them in my pond. Tiger trout rarely have spots.

Yup, orange on the belly, faded to yellow up the sides. I didnt tape him (should have), the measure net is great for a quick estimation, but for a fish like that, you want specifics. There were two in the pool, but I believe the other was female. What'd he hit?

cold & flyfisherman,

check out the mirrored "B" behind that red spot on both of your fish, looks pretty identical

I have been seeing a lot of Light Cahills coming off right before dark for the past two weeks, but they are progressively getting smaller with each day.  Does this mean they are near their demise?  Have had good luck on the top, but may try some nymphs this evening.

You sure they're not paler sulphurs? I've been seeing some sulphurs that are like...the color of creamed corn. You may have been seeing the invaria and/or rotunda before, and now are seeing the dorothea, a totally different species. Even if they're not sulphurs, a major size difference, from what I've bene learning, means different species, not the end of their hatch, so thats good news!

PS. Definitely not trying to sound like an expert, I've just been asking alot of questions like that lately, and from the answers I've gotten, I think I'm starting to think on the right track.

Also, good eye! That 'B' pointed to the ventral side, just behind that blemish or birthmark, or whatever. I'm pretty convinced its the same fish now. Also check out that scar just behind his right eye, in front of the gills.

I knew I should have consulted Loomis, the genesis of fly fishing, and his associates, before making such a bold statement.

Ask Jim Halupka how to catch brown trout during a light cahill hatch, he catches ones like these on the regular. Also ask him about doing curls, cuz his biceps are huge.

So the fish is the same fish...markings identical, but whose tape measure is off???? :)

Probably mine, I just have the inch marks on the bottom of my net. Zero in the middle. Just add the inch mark at the head to the inch mark at the tail for an approx. length. I'll have to take a tape to the net to see if it's off. The fish was over the inch marks on each side, meaning it was over 18", but I wouldn't want to be accused of telling a "fish story". I'll tape the net and get back to ya.
