Sat down at the table with the thought of yellow and white. I must say I am pretty happy with what I came up with. Think I am going to do a couple of these. I really want to swing this on the Catt next fall. Well this is what came about.  Here is my feather wing.

AJ 1.5
silver tag
GP crest tail
wht ostrich butt
1/3 silver mylar 2/3 yellow seal sub
wht schlappen body hackle
mallard collar
yellow hackle tip for the wing

same fly better light

Staying true to my big fly all the time theory. Intruder. Couldnt nail the picture for you but in person it looks pretty tough.

Nicest ties on the board.  Intrigued by the intruder style.  What are the eyes, lead hour glass or bead chain?  Will have to start messing around with homemade waddingtons again.

Thanks for the kind words. I talk a lot of **** on these boards so I have to put up something nice once in awhile.   I use both lead and bead chain. All depends on what I am getting ready for. My river of choice hasnt fished in a week so when she becomes close, hopefully Sat, I am going to want something that will get down quick. Thats when I go to the lead eyes. When I am fishing long softer runs I will go with the bead chain. I did one up in wht/char, using the wad. The same as my mirror minnow pattern just changed up the colors. I'll get a pick up for you soon. Hopefully one stuck in a chromers mouth.

Got on the water yesterday and did some swinging. The mornings flow started at 1150 cfs and dropped to around 950 by days end. Mind you most guys dont go to this river unless its flowing around 600 cfs. Do to the high water I wasnt able to get many fish photos. Standing in thigh high water with a cut bank behind me there was no picture taking going on on landed fish. But there was fish catching going on. I got a few bumps and 6 fish to hand on this fly. This is the one that plum bob inspired me to do up.

Another fly that produced for me was this one. Its all puffed out laying in the water.

Here it is all twisted up in a little guys mouth. This one I gave to my neighbor for his smoker. The reason I kept it was becuse of the damaged jaw. I am sure the fish would have been fine to release but the neighbor has been bugging me and this was the perfect fish for the table.

I ended my day deep in a tailout. I have fished it before and just knew I would get a grab under the overhanging tree. Got into position stripped out a good 10 more ft of line. Shot a lazor with a good upstream wind wind blowing. 65' later she lands in perfect position to begin the swing. Didnt take long before the line goes tight and this dropback goes nuts. After a great fight got her to the opposite bank. What a way to end a day.

You can see how "good" she was hooked. If I made one mistake with my rod position or let the juice off for a second, the fish may have unbuttoned herself.

That this was a cool shot

Outstanding pics and ties, really like the look of the white rabbit-yellow marabou fly.  Will have to try that. Glad you had a great day on the water.  Happy Easter!

Nah, got the traditional opening day madness with the father and family friend on a boat on Hereford. Funny thing is once 12 pm rolls around the place is a ghost town, and we troll for em.

Next week I'll be at PC with my 7wt. Because I don't have anything smaller, and don't have an extra 200 bucks lying around for one right now.

Happy you guys like the stick.  I had the idea of putting that phrase on my rod but didnt know if it would turn out corny. Than I said who cares what others think. I'm alittle twisted so its par for the course. If I dont like it then I'll redo it.  Well it is staying.

Got out again on Monday. Plenty of fish to hand on whatever fly I wanted to put on. Got some pretty fish and some ugly ones. This one was a football.

The fly that produced the best was a black marabou one I like. No recipe or photo, way to deadly.  With multiple fish under its belt it was torn to shreads, but still turning fish for me.
This drop back gave me the best fight of the day. I got the snot knocked out of my fingers when I went to palm the reel. Ouch!! Even saw some backing fly out of my guides after the first run. I love seeing my line way down stream and the fish jumping way upstream. To my surprise when I got her in she had this. Fish fought like a healthy fresh run. My special fly is stuck in her mouth, its the best photo you guys are getting of it.

Here is my ugly mug holding a tough male. That thing hanging from his grill is my fly. Big ole lampray wound on him. Fish measured about 28.

I wanted to turn him around for a shot of the cleaner side, but he wanted none of that.

I tricked a pinner into taking my pic. I told him he could have the eggs if he takes my pic. Stupid pinner.

Swinger:  Again, great pics.  Regarding marked fish, once caught a sthd about 6 lbs with an 8" bite radius on its side.  The fish probably spent too much time hanging around the head of the Niagara river.

I am using Beulah Elixer line in 420 grains on a Rainshadow 10'8" 8 wt blank. I extended the blank to make it an 11' though. To get down I am using 10' polyleaders in different sink rates ranging from 2.6-6.1 inch per second. Also a floater when I want to try a skater, yet to get one on this method though. Over the summer I'll be building a spey for next season. The switch works fine for me but there is times where alittle more stick could be helpful. Mind you I am not fishing PA waters. If you are looking for something for PA swinging a switch would be more then enough. Let me know if you want more info on that subject.

I talked to my ODNR buddy, "my boy is wicked smart." Guess the movie and win a prize. Anyway he said. "It looks like there's an original lampray scar on the lower portion of the wound, and I am assuming that a bacterial infection may have caused the rest and moving into the river made it worse... just a theory. I have seen a few of these fish being caught lately as a matter of fact."

2 hand swinging set up, what works for me:

Rod - Beaulah  11 1/2 ft 6/7 wt
Reel - Lamson lite speed 3.5 (4" diam)
Shooting line - Rio powerflex
Line - Rio AFS 6/7 400 gr. 36' Scandinavian head
Poly leader - Rio or Airflo 10', around 6 ips
Leader - 18"  20 lb Maxima cameleon or clear, #12 or 14 barrel swivel, 36 - 40" maxima ultra green 10 lb or 1x fluorocarbon
favorite fly - Frodin plastic tube/cone head in a variety of colors, rabbit strip/rabbit body with pearl or silver flash

If you don't want a swivel in your leader, attach tippet loop to loop or with a double surgeons knot. Like mono leader 4 -5' long.

If I ever buy another 2 hand rod it would be the Sage 6126 Z Axis 12 1/2' 6 wt.

Here is another creation I came up with. It is based on the green butt skunk. I just changed up the original materials.

I used rhea for a collar. Very long material with tons of movement. If you dont mind spending a couple bucks, get yourself some. You wont be disappointed. The fly brought to hand a few steel on her debut. Here is some pics of the 30" hen that put an overrun in my reel. She broke water on three different occasions and was full of spunk!! If I could have video on only one fish I got this year, it would have been this one.

The money shot

I've seen Rhea in catalogs, but not in a store.  Catalogs it's aroune $20 a pack.  how many feathers in a pack?  How many flies do you get out of that $20?

Nice tie and feesh.
