Checked out the ice on PI saturday.
Misery Bay had 3-4 huts and about 3-6" of ice, fishable in spots.
Horse shoe had 15-20 huts and fair ice.
The channel was frozen/slushed over and not open. ( I had planned on chasing Burbot sat night)

Dale, just bring your bait with you. Order what you need from grubco and be done with it.

Was on Misery today with a fair amount of company.  3-4" of ice with about the same amount of slush and water on top.  It is about as nasty of ice as I'll fish.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

wormwaster i cant beleive u were only on 3-4 we were on almost 11 inches of really bad ice , and that was right off to the right as u walk on about 100 or so yards then as we went out farther it was about 4 inches and less cuz i started to venture out away from my hut another 100 yards toward the rode and ice started cracking so i was getting out of there but i thought that was cuz it was toward shoe but i could be wrong . It was a very great day of fishing.

only 3 to 4 inches where i was yesterday, about 100 yards or so straight out from the ramp (behind that Clam 5600)  there were only a couple people out past me.  caught a bass right from the start and a fair amount of gills.  marked a lot of fish on the flasher.

hanson's was the best ! they would tell you the true conditions, wether they sold bait or not. the idiot's at the top of the hill are indeed greedy, we stopped to buy minnows last fall , and he wanted $3.oo a dozen for emeralds. I asked him why so high and he said that was his price. he said why don't I get them from the guy next door. Well I did go out of my way and get them from someone else, and will continue to do that . I will never go into that shop again.

yup I will drive a lil extra out rt 5 to Poor Richards than go to BAC ever again. He's boycotted in my book. I'll use artificial before buying live or anything from him.

Should be the weekend to hit the ice! High of 7 degrees for Thurs. & Fri.

That was me in the bearded clam 5600. We only caught a few dink gills. good weeds down there, and i'm sure yesterdays weather had them turned off.

hey to all that may not have watched the news tonight, i guess from what they were saying there is going to be a couple of barges coming into the bay and they are going to be breaking up the ice it may not effect the ice at the head of the bay but thought it may be useful info.

Does anyone know how the ice is off the parking lots in the bay or around the chesnut St boat launch or around the Yacht Club. Thats where I want to venture to. Just wondering about the ice conditions. Thats where the majority of the perch are every winter. I would love to go out to those areas this weekend.

Where are they going to dock at? i hardly would think ALL of the ice would get broke up..if they are docking near the pier with the light house? i dont think they would need to go much further west...but then again i could be wrong. Where are these boats even coming from? and why didnt they think to do that earlier? I think its kinda dumb they would bring them there now when it was opened not to long ago..like hey lets make this alittle bit more difficult.

The question is how far into the bay are they coming and how thick is the ice in the bay now?

Every time i've seen the oar boats come in they come through the channel and head to the boat docks on the south side of the bay they don't break much ice other than where they travel and it didn't seem to interupt fishing unless you plan on fishing in the middle of the bay east of the public dock.

exactly what I've seen too from the past. also being this cold, when the ships come have come in from the past, it being so cold, the snow is gone and its just open water & that froze over quicker than closer to the head of the bay with a pile of snow on it. No snow to insulate makes ice pretty quickly!

deerblazer & others,if you dont know what your talking about please dont post..these ships come in every year about this time and they never go that far west once they go thru the channel,so the ice will not be affected west of the public dock.people are already fishing 1st and 2nd parking lots.im not sure the ice thinkness there, but going 2 get a report on it 1st thing 2morrow.

The ice will be fine, I was fishing Misery, which is around 4-500 yrds from the channel and it will not be affected.  Talked to a park ranger on the ice as he was letting everyone know about the barges coming in and told us that we will feel the ice shake when they come through but will remain fine.  Dont get you panties up in a bunch.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

I fished the south side of the bay off the yacht club and caught alot of fish the only problem was none of them were over five inches. Anyone know where the big ones are??

Remember, there are two kinds of fishermen, those that fish for sport and those that catch something.
