Presque Isle

Has anyone been around the bay?  I am curious to hear if the marina, missery, or horseshoe bays have any fishable ice on them after our little heat wave.

I took a drive up there the weekend before the big heat wave hit, and found a good bit of ice.  I know Eaton was very fishable before as well, but am curious to know whats going on now.

Misery bay was open water, except for around the edges where all the ice pushed towards shore.  Nothing safe to fish.  I am not sure about the ponds.

everything is coated now in the bay, there are a few open spots but as of this morning duck hunting, everything was iced up and at beach 11, it was all iced up out to about 300 yards from shore. drove the whole way around looking for open places but nothing to duck hunt. be getting out the ice hut soon because temps wont be getting up high during the day and will be 20ish at night.

Some calm and cold nights are needed.  The wind churned up any skim ice on the bay today.  The bay was white capping by the time I left work.

A friend of mine called me yesterday said he took a ride around the ****ula. There was ice to the second parking lot, he said a lot of people threw rocks on it, but nobody on it. Misery isn't ready yet, a lot of open water by the bridge, he also said that the ice got blown up to the parking lot side said it would be tricky walking off from their if it does  firm up. Horeshoe their are people on it he didn't go see how thick the ice was though. I would imagine the ice in the corner of the Marina might also be good enough, maybe call BAC i've never dealt with them but they should know.. Sure do miss Joe Hansen......and Smitty.....

Joe Hanson was a great guy and I miss him everytime I fish the PI.

If anyone fishes in Horseshoe Pond this weekend be VERY careful.  Ice varies in thickness from 4-6 inches out to about 20 yards in front of the houses, and then turns to 1-2 inches.  This was as of last Saturday, so it might be ok by this weekend, but still use a lot of caution.  Apparently the Coast Guard was in there for some odd reason for some sort of training last week and busted up the ice in the middle of Horseshoe.

hanson's was the best ! they would tell you the true conditions, wether they sold bait or not. the idiot's at the top of the hill are indeed greedy, we stopped to buy minnows last fall , and he wanted $3.oo a dozen for emeralds. I asked him why so high and he said that was his price. he said why don't I get them from the guy next door. Well I did go out of my way and get them from someone else, and will continue to do that . I will never go into that shop again.

The only thing on the PI that is safe to fish that I know of is Horeshoe.  I fished it yesterday along with 4 other guys.  Ice ranged from 3-6 inches.  Nothing else appears safe as of now.  I stopped at BAC and he told me I was crazy for going out.  His words were, I've lived here for thirty years and I would not go out on the ice.  My words back were, ok you dont even ice fish.  Sure enough I drove down and it was safe for anyone to go on.

Where else is there to be bait other than BAC. To bad the others have closed down. They always helped us get the right bait and told us the areas to fish.
