you can lead a horse to water...

but you can't make him bring his waders or rod because the horse thinks all the water is locked up so instead the horse tells you how great the water fishes and that there are some many easy access spots that would pump 15" + fish and while pointing out these spots sees no ice and that instead the horse will give you a ride to a place where the talk/live/sell fishing and then tell you about bountiful catches of seasons past and the carp Shangri-La all with out rods and waders...

yeah... there are a lot of horses' asses

Raz,
If I was fishin the Yough this time of year I'd probably take one of my 50 fly rods, the one that has the 6lb leader attached and to it I'd probably first try a #10 Crayfish, but first I'd shoot a tightwire across the river and suspend myself like Rambo above the river while fishing because the current would be too strong to wade.  But I'd have to look around to see if Anal, Cold, KJH, Strandman, and the Drake were around to get their stamp of approval.   I would be more inclined to try Dunbar Creek this time of year or set my 78 flyrods aside and try some worms or eggs at Mammoth Lake.   Actually this time of year I'm more inclined to be working on my income taxes.  Anal, Drake, Cold, KJH, Strandman.... you know what income taxes are don't you?

Anal,
You broke your promise to me, I thought you said you were outta here!  I can't believe it, I walked away from here at 1:00 yesterday and you morons had yourself a marathon.   Where did you get that line about "battle of wits" ?   Please don't tell me you thought that up yourself. (It's not very original)   But if you do leave, looks like we have a new dickwad who is ready to take your place, Flyfisherman, PA....just outta the tattoo parlor.   The fargin idiot doesn't understand that whether I have 30 leaders in my tackle box or 3 of them in my vest, they are all separated.   But when you spend all your time wondering where your next 6 pack is coming from reading comprehension takes a backseat.   Looking at this threaed since 1:00 yesterday, I'd say certain people really do need to get a life.   Anyway, see ya tomorrow.

Raz,
To give you a serious answer, yes I heard that the trophy trout section of the Yough produces some very big fish and yes I'd probably use some leaders with stronger tippets.    A friend of mine from Central PA who fishes Spruce Creek, The Little Juniata and many of the limestone streams up that way told me that the section of the Yough that you mention is as good as any PA stream he has fished.

Raz,
To give you a serious answer,

i thought the previous statement was a serious answer...  both are good.
Dunbar is frozen right now.  plus all the fish are under the plunge pools where there's too much turbulent water to be spooked by much other than the locals and their bleach buckets and stringers.

with that amount of fly rods, by chance do you have a 10 weight 4 piece that i could take to Cancun?

flyfishermanPA ain't old enough to get a tatty or get a six pack.

i miss Mammoth Lake to a degree.  used to catch a ton fish there when i was in school.  never tried worms or eggs though.

and income taxes.  we have someone for that.

 but i digress..

"Good Luck"

Anal,
If I was to shoot ya it would be with a crossbow and no, I wouldn't miss, it would be center shot.  It would be a quick death.  You would stumble over to a leaning log and collapse on it with your eyeballs searching for the source of the arrow and wondering WTF happened?   Then KJH807 would ask "Is there anything we can do for him????"

raz,
I really own just 2 #7 flyrods.  One is an old fiberglass rod that belonged to my dad.   I have thought about buying a heavy duty rod that I could use for Saltwater and leave it at my daughter's house in FL.  In recent years I'm just having too much fun catching Pompano on the beach though.   The flyrod would be for fishing the Indian River flats.   I was watching a TV show on Comcast Channel 153 or 270 about flyfishing for salmon in British Columbia and up there they mostly used these big 2-handed fly rods that seemed difficult to cast.   But when you saw the size of the fish they pulled in you could understand the heavy rods.

what color line were they using?
that becomes more important with the large fish... even moreso than the rod

With 30 bolts pre-nocked onto bowstrings, so you could just restring instead of nocking another bolt???

That's almost as f*%$#&d up as using a spinning rod to fly fish which is against all the principles outlined in the Manifesto.   And yes Anal, even if you were laying against that log with your nose in the air, you'd still need to get a life.

I mean what a dumb idea? ........ using a spinning rod to fly fish.     Like a Brazilian taking a knife to a gunfight.
Tell me something, Cold, when you go deer hunting, do you fill your rifle with 3 rounds and then put maybe 3 or 4 more rounds in your pocket, or do you bring a canister of gunpowder and a reloading kit to use after the first shot?

well then i don't think i can help you...

when you get into the very specific dynamics of long rods and big fish... the color makes all the difference

it really can be night and day with those difficult casts

salmon become very warry while in the ocean and even more so once they run in the streams
Great Lakes is not an issuse as steelbows are top of the food chain and don't become scared

No, no, in the very early days of professional (fake) TV wrestling (1960's) there was a famous wrestler named Bobo Brazil and his chief weapon was a head butt, called a Cocobutt.

What manifesto?  I dont fish according to anyone's preconceived notions of right and wrong.  I will, however, ask to see if its been done before, and if so, what knowledge has been gained by those who've come before.  You're falling apart fast, Ned, get out before its too late, I dont think youre cut out for posting on an internet message board!

Go fish with chartist and gUru.
