itchy brown eye sucks

thou shalt not throw a tantrum when the new guy shows up and starts catching fish just because you been there all day and have not caught a thing just ask him what he's using he'll surely tell you.

thou shalt give the youngsters some jigs so they can catch fish too

Thou shalt not allow thy children to snag fish and justify it by their age and inexperience. The sins be upon the heads of the fathers. Any ethical angler observing said behavior, shall smite the father over the head with the instrument of the crime, breaking it in the process, and then beat the child's @ss with a wooden spoon. (Available upon request at both Poor Richard's locations.) Of course this disciplinary action is then followed by a lengthy discourse in ethics, followed by proper fishing instruction and ample praise for their now honest efforts.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, by proclamation I give you some of my own ten commandments of steelhead fishing.
1) Thou shall honor and respect all steelhead caught
2) Thou shall mend your line first on any drift
3) Thou shall never bogart the hole my friend
4) Thou shall always leave with more then you came with
5) Thou shall always bow and pay homage to your fishing holes before beginning
6) Thou shall always use magical flies whenever possible
7)Thou shall never spot burn
8) Thou shall always do the steelhead shuffle before entering the water.
9) Thou shall always yield your fishing spot to a kid, older people, and the handicap
10) Thou shall always have fun while on the water

May your fly rod always be bent!

ErieBayRat, I couldn't agree more. John Gierach is one of the best authors in fly fishing! I'm currently reading Fools Paradise and so far so good. I'll read this funny little story on the back of the book here.

"I went to a shoe repair place a few years ago to have some hiking boots resoled, and when I gave the man my name for the work order, he said, 'You're the guy who writes that fishin' column in the newspaper, aren't you?' "I modestly admitted that yes, it was me, and he turned to the man next to him behind the counter and said, 'Well, the guy wore out a pair of boots, so it can't all be bull****.'"

Classic!

Sorry to revive this old thread again, but I couldn't resist after reading in the salmon river board about guys snagging big browns then posing for pics with them. This just plain ****es me off. THOU SHALT NEVER, NEVER POSE WITH A SNAGGED FISH! If you do, it speaks volumes about your lack of ethics and skill in general. No real fisherman will ever do this, no matter how big it was. You didn't earn it. It doesn't count.
