In August, I'm more worried about catching a buzz than catching a steelhead. Not prime time. BUT! The first steelie I ever saw was in late August last year, when I went up to scout around for the fall. I dont want to spot burn, but there was this spot on this creek that went past this place they have boats...and...and theres this deep hole, below all these logs in like a V-shape...and right at the top of the bank, theres this intersection, with this stop sign...

...that's where I saw them.

Ya I have been known to catch a buzz or two myself, especially while golfing.  I doubt I'll try for a steel on this trip in August.  I'm thinking October for my maiden voyage.

A fun day with lots of walking on the eastside tribs but only one steelhead. I ended up with a dozen bass, about that many browns and a dime bright 5 pound steelie in fast water, my first ever in June which was the purpose of the trip. Saw three other steelhead in dead water but no takers. Lots of suckers.

White deer hair streamers and salties. Also caught some very small 4" (I imagine smolts) that were colored up like a rainbow. What's up with them?

S-10,
if you were on the mile creeks they may have been rainbows..i've had guys tell me they stock there with them..and those salties can be deadly when fished weightless and slowly pulling them..im going to walnut saturday to get me a couple steelies and smallies and will take pictures with dates as proof that it was that day..im gonna prove steelheading the creeks is a all year event in erie

can't wait til the steelies run again! get to say the best two words put together in fishing "fish on!"

I thought they were rainbows when I caught them but had never been on those streams this late before and wasn't sure the smolts remaining didn't color up in the streams. They were smaller than the smolts I see in Mar-April. BTW-that's exactly the way I fished both the flies and salties. I will be back up in July to try for a steelie then. Is Walnut the best place to try in your opinion? I'am quite sure the mile creeks will be done by then.

HAHAHAHA!!!! I don't know why, but I got a serious kick out of that!
If you haven't fished in Erie...or read one single thing on this stooopid internet
about Erie fishing...and you can't figure it out, then the Fish Comm should have a right to remove you of all your tackle and revoke your license forever!
