LOL OK, since you asked. The downfall of the 870 is probably that it will last you a lifetime thus not having an excuse to buying a new scatter gun.

Rem vs Mossberg both have their pro and cons.

I missed where you stated the cons of the 870...staying tuned...

Know how ya felt Tull - mine was an open cylinder- Used to hunt a lotta Woodcock over the setters back then when there were Woodcock.
Then went to a modified for bunnies over my big running PA beagle ( my cousin Bob ran trials in Jim Thorpe -before it was Jim Thorpe and he gave me one of his dogs) later picked up a real tight full choke for Ducks.
Still gottem all too- cept those dogs.

  DIDJA HEAR ME THAT TIME

Thinking a gun is wonderful depends on your experience.
The first shotgun I hunted with was a bolt action 12ga, probably a Mossberg.
It was great till I shot an old Winchester pump.
It was great till I bought a Winchester 1300 12ga mag pump
That was great til I bought Winchester 1400 12ga mag semi auto
That was great til I bought a Remington 1100 12ga mag
That was great til I bought an 1187
That was great til I bought a Ruger Red Label sporting clays
Still love the Ruger even after buying a Perazzi.

Somewhere in that mix I bought a couple 870's, Ithacas, Street Sweepers and a few others .

First rifle I practiced with was a Winchester 52
Still one of my favorites but don't shot it much because it is serial #12 from 1919
Bought a much newer 52 about 10 years ago

I'm "only" 27, wow, never thought I'd be saying that when I was 16, but I have had 3 shotguns.  The first was a Mossberg Model 500 20 guage.  Loved that gun, it killed many a' tree rats, and a few grouse, rabbits, and phesants too.  I inherited an old 870 16 guage from my grandfather, it actually belonged to my great-grandfather, and I hunted with it for the last few years.  I figured he would have wanted me to use it some.  I just bought a silver hunter 12 guage, and I absolutely love it.  I may never buy another one......LoL!!

Well, I bought a 2nd 870! Short barrel, those newfangled scew in chokes, camo stock, sling, aimpoint.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The closer we adhere to the Holy Bible and the US Constitution (as it was written) the closer we get to the model that made America great. The great American experiment worked, human nature just got in the way.

Speaking of kick, anyone catch Sons of Guns last night and watch them fix that 20mm tank buster (Lahti L-39)?

That looked like fun to shoot, bet cost per round is nutz though. Those guys get to shoot a lot of entertaining stuff, but I bet Will really isn't much fun to work for... especially if you're hittin' on his daughter...

My brother in law and I were shooting clays 1 day and I pulled out my 3 1/2 mossberg 535 XX full choke BBL. and He got out his 10 GA. 3 1/2 and we powderized several birds.       I still think shooting M203 40 MM grenades hurt worse though.
