Morning hunt was good.
Saw 3 buck.
Passed on a nice 8 point about 16" wide, pencil horns no mass or tine length...12 yards..
Saw one of the big boys come up out of the swamp...140 yards, huge deer..
Must have winded another hunter he ran across an open field and 15 minutes later a guy is standing on that trail.
Then  he decided to walk around the field at 730am with his grunt tube....

Saw 2 doe tonight and had a buck come in grunting continuously.
I never got an eye on him he was behind a hemlock tree..

Had this little guy scare the bejesus out of me when he landed in the tree 10 feet away...

Cool report Bings.

Tonight:
12 doe and 2 bucks.
Passed on a 8pt @ 15yds.  Looked good for a 2yr old though.  I zig-zagged a drag rag loaded with Black Widow almost the entire length of a 40-acre cut bean field.  He popped out on the other side(300 yards) and I grunted to him.  He responded in my direction til he cut the rag trail.  Nose went to the ground and follow my exact trail to my tree.
Saw 2 grey fox at dark.

Was out this morning, saw 4 Raccoons at daybreak. Saw 1 idiot at 715 AM. The winds picked up and I was under dressed. Cut right through my pants. I was froze.

Time for a hot meal, a 2 hour nap, and back to the drawing board.

**** time is a ticking. Been seeing a parade of non-shooter bucks past week or so. Last night finally seen 2 doe run by me as fast as they can run for some reason. they didn't see nor smell me and no buck chasing ?????????  Man I really don't want to go into gun season without at least one deer with the bow.  All my spots are just full of non-shooters and scrubs. Not seeing darn near no does which is very very  strange. tried the scent bomb the other evening and had a small buck come right in and knock the can over and ran off kinda of funny to see.                         Well GOOD LUCK BOYS TIME IS A TICKING

Well, I'm screwed. Last night as my hockey game fell hard on my Arse. And severly bruised my Coccyx. (Tailbone).

I can't sit for more that 20 mins at a time.

Bigslick,

Repeat after me -- "Never pass on an animal on the first day that you would harvest on the last day."

Doing so always, okay almost always, comes back to bite you.  It is kind of like leaving fish to find fish.

We were pheasant hunting the other day and were just standing around trying to decide our next move.  Some hunters in another area flushed a rooster and it headed right towards our group.  No one even moved.  At about 30 yards, one of the guys pulls up and blasts the bird. The momentum carried it over our heads before it crashed to the ground.

The shooter asked, "What were you guys waiting for?"

Since the rest of us were dog guys, the reply was "We were going to let it land behind us and then let the dogs find it."

His reply, "The dogs didn't need to find it, I knew where it was.  I was right there."

Talk about the literal definition of a "bird in the hand."

Same for deer.

I did the same thing yesterday and tuesday. I only saw two deer...both sublegal bucks. I'd shoot a doe at this point. But I only see them while driving to my spot.

Saw some crazy stuff today. I was in my stand most of the afternoon and really enjoyed a wonderful day to be in the woods.
More squirrels than I have ever seen. They would be chasing each other around the tree like it was a game.
Made some bleets and rattled , nothing.Gave the turkey call a few kee-kees and here comes 20 or so birds.
Thought o boy theres alot of eyes there. Next thing I know this fox goes trotting past the turkeys within yrds of them.
The birds start chasing the fox and disappear.
Went closer to the bedding area and saw 0.

The squirrels and chipmunks were out in force today. The woods never got really quiet where I was.

Although this season didn't produce the buck I was looking for, it was a very enjoyable one!
I passed a few 2 year olds in hopes of harvesting a mature deer but I never had one within my comfort range.

Nov. 11-12, deer activity was almost non-existent.  Like Bings said, "...someone turned off the switch."

The last 2 days of the season was so-so with sporadic activity along with a couple of goliath whitetails at close range for a couple of friends that were in from out of town to hunt with us.  One of those monsters made his appearance on the final minute of the final day at 40 yards!

Congrats to all of those who scored this season!

It's time to break out the Browning Eclipse 7mm Mag...
