Bighead, there were times I hunted great spots(killed many deer in the past), like 9 times in a month and saw nothing. The 10th time I would kill a deer. Remember its called hunting. Go in the woods and you will see a deer. If you put your time in you will see a deer. NEVER GIVE UP!!!  Even with all our technology we cannot control everything(wind, moon, other hunters,etc..).  Good Luck.

Finally had an 11 point in today. Stayed out at 40 yards, never offered a shot. Wasn't the least bit interested in grunts, or bleats.

All's he wanted to do was eat. Understandable, when I'm hungry, I don't pay attention to anything but food.
He'll be back.

Noplace I hear ya; I don't think it is possible to hunt much more than I do. Was out all day Yesturday it was quite nasty and WET!!!! Finally  Seen three deer in the morning i shooter to far to get a shoot and two scrubs milling around under my stand for while. Sat till 1100am.  Went to a farm in saxonburgh at noon setup by 100Pm Started to seen deer right off the get go. Then the small gamers / turkey hunters started shooting somewhat like a war zone which in fact pushed deer all over the place . Had a herd of doe within ten-forty yards of me and could not shoot one of them NEVER received a 2D tag.Sent for them but only got tages for 1A and 2B kinda bites. Not a horn to speak of till 630Pm and a very wide 6 point walked right in. Could not find a brow tine on him. Alll in ALL Good day.

Hunted Friday and Saturday. I didn't see a deer Friday, but my borther saw the deer we scouted all summer. 40yds through some thick stuff but couldn't get a shot. It hung around for 15 minutes smelling around and then just moved off down the hill. Hope he'll come by my stand Wed. Friday or Sat. this week! Yesterday saw 3 does nothing else..
here are some of the summer pics of the deer he saw Friday:

Lots of deer getting whacked by cars in the last 3-4 days here, saw 2 dead bucks and 1 doe in a 1/2 mile strech not 3 miles from my house.

Either the turkey hunters were bumpin them or maybe they're beginning to chase more?

Was out listening for turkeys to fly up tonight, had an 8 point at 50 yds, then came trotting by me at 10 yds, never knew I was there.
Figured out why 5 minutes later, a doe came up the hollow and he made a suicide run for her!

Maybe things will heat up for you guys in the coming weeks

This morning was a fantastic hunt.
While walking in, I came face to face with a small buck.  He started walking at me so I started walking at him.  We came to within 20 yards of each other before he realized he messed up.(It was dark)
Got settled in, got out the rattle bag and after a 20 second cadence, here comes a spike.  He goes to feeding on akerns.
A few minutes later, I look in the direction he comes from and here comes a shooter!  He skirts the area, downwind, and comes into the same area as the spike, where there were also 2 doe and a 2bb feeding.  He checks one of the does, walks up to the spike and they start playfully sparring with each other!  After a minute or so, he makes an aggressive lunge at the spike saying, "I'm not playing anymore!"
The shooter walks off ignoring my every call.
A young 5pt comes in from behind me, catches wind of the shooter and walks on the same path out of sight.  Another spike feeds past and a couple doe popped out into the field to my right, grubbed some alfalfa, and ran away.  A good looking 'yote comes trotting past at 80 yards.
Great morning!

It was a great morning to be in the woods, nice and cold and crisp...Seen 7 deer before 9:00....nothing after that...All slicktops....Got down at 10:30 due to obligations...

Got 2 deer in down at the deer shop this morning, an 8pt, nothing special year and a half old (Would have been a dandy next year if it would have made it) and I also got a 41 pound button buck in (Who shoots this thing???  Guy must have been deperate for meat or something, the whole 20lbs he is going to get..... Oh well, he paying me, I'm not going to complain....)

I'm still hunting under some bad Mojo here.
Haven't seen a deer the last 4 trips out.
And I hunted 3 different stands...

I think I'm going to have to hide in Ironheds pocket..

last night my buddy shot a decent 8 point at 430 and saw 2 other bucks and some does.  this was the 3rd buck shot by a friend of mine on a day i was at work.  seems like every day i work is when they are seeing all the deer.  work 12 hours again today so i'm sure someone will be sending me pictures of a dead deer.

RE: So, how was opening morning? 2009/11/03 08:00:08 (permalink)
Started pm vacation yesterday.  Drove around checking the wind.. had a last resort spot where the wind was right.  Got dressed headed up, picked a tree.. wind changed blowin' right towards the bedding area.     Back to truck (sweating).. went to another spot.   I can hunt it with the wind wrong... blowing up at the truck.. looks like a few deer crossed there this morning.. so, went up wind starts to blow sideways to my right.  I can hunt the spot with it blowing up OR to the right but not both.   Sat there on a log for a half hour testing the wind.  Right to up ...  can't hunt it.  Finally, the wind decided to blow up so I got up the tree (sweating bullets by now).   Went to pull my bow up... the knot came undone on the clip on my bow.  I just layed my head against the tree, took at deep breath, and tried gathering my thoughts.  Is this a test ?   What if I get back down and hook up my bow again and don't see anything tonight?  I'm gonna be pretty ****ed off.  I wait all year to go into certain spots.  Wind kept blowin' up and right so I just yelled something out of frustration.  Got down and headed home.

It's about once a year I have hunts like this.  Hope I got it out of me.   Really hope this south east wind crap stops real soon.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Halloween night I finally had an encounter with a shooter. Sitting in my stand, the wind was perfect for this place. E/SE winds were blowing right over the hill into a huge valley.

I turned around at a flicker, and there it was, a Magnificent 9pt. 18+ inside spread. He Milled around for quite some time. Just eating wild cherrys. Ignoring my every call. It actually ****ed me off. Not the fact he wouldn't come, but that he was blatantly ignoring me. What, am I not good enough for big boy? So. I let off the calls to see if he'd come in. Sure enough he did. To ANOTHER cherry tree right behind me. I had this bruiser right behind me, broadside, at 10 yards. Only a hugemongouesly thick Cherry tree blocked my shot. He walked a straight line away after a half an hour of tormenting me, into the woods. I never had a reasonable/safe shot. An animal like that deserves better.

Went out yesterday, Monday morning, Nothing. Monday evening, Nothing.

Pretty discouraging, but coming here and reading all of other peoples success pumps me up every time. Hopefully, they start being loco soon.

lol.
that was my first fawn in about 7 years (pic above) came in fast and i missed a buck earlier in the hunt so it was just the wrong time for that lil bugger to walk under me.
i was kinda embarrassed when i found it but....no shame in a clean bow kill

Oh, I have been a victim of ground shrinkage, and I have shot a yearling before thinking it was bigger than it was, but this thing was by far, the smallest deer I have ever seen anyone shoot....And I see a lot of deer come in to the deer shop during archery and rifle seasons...Hey, I am not complaining, this guy is paying me to cut up the smallest deer I have ever seen, but I would feel embarrassed to bring this thing into a deer processor......I will take a pic of it before I cut it up in a couple of days....I aardvark'd it so the head is still on it so you will be able to see really how small it is...

This week at school has been killing me!!! People seem to be laying the smack down on them this week, I have heard from numerous friends about lots of local kills.

I will be hunting all day friday and saturday. For once, the weather is looking to be great for the weekend. Cold front blowing in tomorrow; light SW winds, lows in the 30's, and high pressure for fri and saturday. Needless to say I am pumped to get out there, should be a good weekend for everyone.

Well since seeing a big 9, I've seen nothing, for 3 straight trips.

Will rest the 9 Point spot tomorrow, and hunt a backup stand.

Not expecting to see much tonight with the howling 30mph west winds, 2 bb's and their mothers passed by the stand.  A small 4 pt walked past too.
Walking out I bumped into a dandy 10.
Tomorrow morning is gonna be NICE!!!!
