March/ April J/Spring etc..

J isn't going to fish for a week +.

Slab Cabin/Thompson run are even blasted, so I guess Spring is too.

Fished Yellow Creek yesterday, size 16 olives came in decent numbers at about 3:30 - 4 p.m.

If we dont get any rain, MAYBE somthing here in Bellefonte (SC and a few to remain unamed) may fish. And even if they do, its not gonna likely be any dry fly fishing. Spring looked like it was ready to come out of the bank, and even though it doesnt currently matter, Bald Eagle is up into the trees!

I went to the park in Bellefonte yesterday.  Can't say I've ever seen SC that high.  Area tribs were still way up too.  Spruce Creek was even smoking.  I may try some tribs. tonight.

I recently had a conversation with Alan ..  he was telling me how a good friend was fishing the PSU water on Spruce (SRC recently got water just upstream recently).  He caught nothing .. while a guy below him caught 20 or so on a pellet fly.   It's sad what has and still is happening to that stream.  It's funny how "beloved" Spruce Creek is and it's a dirt hole.  The sulfur hatch (arguably Spruce best) does NOT even exist anymore because the stream is so polluted with fish $hit.  Hopefully the wild fish moved down to the J and did not get eaten by those hatchery bowling balls.

A friend fish there yesterday and didn't catch anything.  That's a first.  ..  thanks SRC (they have fish biologists, uh huh)!!!!!   ....an to think TU is backing out of the stream access debate.   hmm..

anyway .. the J is still rolling.  I drove thru a heavy thunderstorm yesterday in Tyrone.  Probably lifted the stream flow a little.  Warriors Mark run was blasted .. so lower Spruce will be to, guess it doesn't matter anymore.

Upon closer inspection spring is not ready to fish, Its still ripn fast! And about zero visability... the last post came from a glance out the car window. I walked down to the stream this evening. Dont get me wrong, you can fish it, but its not gonna be easy walking or fishing.

Tyrone got .29.  Better than 1.5 like they predicted.  J is rising fast.

Apparently, everywhere but the Little J.

I fished it this evening. Turned some rocks over and found lots of stenonemas and sulphur nymphs. I bet there will be a good gray fox hatch this year, and as always a tremendous sulphur hatch on the J.

Caught lots of fish on #18 flashbacks and #18 copper johns.

The J is plowing.    Are we going to miss the grannoms?  BOOOO!!!!!!

Jermey .. are you going to come fish the sulphers this year wusso?????

I'll be fishin 'em every day, Lord willing.  They popped off early everyday last year I fished them.  I think I missed maybe two/three days of the first half of the cycle.  It was an outstanding hatch.

The river is coming down fairly quick, i'd say it will be fishable in 2 days. Unfortunatley, I'll be away for another week starting this thursday. Hopefully, the grannoms wait until I'm home to hatch.

Luckily, there is a succession of little black caddis, green caddis, then tan caddis on the little J, after the grannoms. So, there will be some more good fishing right after the grannoms.

A lot of people think the grannom hatch lasts a long time, but they are thinking that the little black caddis are just little grannoms. Actually, I think it was posted on spruce creek fly co's forum last year that the grannoms hatch for 6 weeks. You'd think a flyshop owner would know better.

All I wanna do is fish.    I fished stupid as-as-as****spruce last night.  I DID catch one wild trout.  The rest were #$%^heads g@ybow's and brownturds.  The stream area closest to poop water is very slippy.

His dumas fish ate my indicators, but not what was hatching.  Anyone have an indicator pattern?  Bright chartruese dog food look alike anyone?

Blue duns in 20 came off.  It's going to warm up this weekend.  Maybe we'll seen some grannoms.  I'll be out there on the J on some "less" dangerous sections.  See you on the water.

    Jon,

Be careful out there, the waterin the J looks nice, but it is still very swift and very cold.

    I hear you Shawn

Once the water hit about 53 degrees, the grannoms started.  Nothing thick, didn't see one trout rise.

I'll be fishing tomorrow, if anyone is interested.

Not many grannoms today.  A few (12).  A few black caddis too. (16)  Few risers.

I had 5 billion black caddis in my yard today. I didnt fly fish though, took the kid to the dam. I will be out later this week. Fished a native brookie stream on Saturday at a friends request. I now know why I dont bother with that. We caught fish, but casting was pretty much non existant.

The front end of my car this morning is covered in grannoms. See if you can figure out where they may be coming from !! I live in Milesburg, and the only place I drove yesterday was to Sayers Dam(Howard). The rest is for you guys to figure out.

Sure they were grannoms J?  Grannoms need sunlight to lift off the water.

Around 9am, there were so many I couldnt believe it. I took a pic as the swarm started to slow down. (I didnt want to mess with the camera while the best part of the hatch was going on)

When I figure out how to post a pic, I'll be able to show you how many there were.
